Hi I'm a litte bit confused because of the power-setting charts provided in the PMDG manual. Lets take an example: The cruise altitude will be at 17'000ft, with OAT at -20°C and GW at 80'000lbs. According to the "Speed Power Table" on page 285, this results in a density altitude of 16'000 feet, a power-setting of 1100 BHP and a TAS of 247 knots. Now when I go to the "Level Flight Cruise Chart / 1100 Toruqemeter Horsepower" on page 291, I get a different TAS when entering the chart at the density-altitude of 16'000 feet and GW between 87'500 to 77'500 lbs. This chart states 259 mph (as the TAS on this chart are published as statute miles per hour), convertet to k…

There has been some discussion about this subject lately and this is what was taught to me about "Recriprocating Load" by folks who made a living instructing and flying large radials in the military and airlines. 1. "Pull the RPM back (maybe as low as 1200) and then add a little throttle." 2. "One inch of manifold pressure for 100 rpm. A good number is 15-15" (15"/1500 RPM). As I've been reminded "Never go under square." 3. Use "cruise RPM on downwind". 4. "If you need RPM, get it before adding throttle." (Overboost can cause an immediate problem while underboost works more slowly, but with the same final results.) 5. The torquemeter (i…

Here is the grand old lady who the DC6 was modelled on. V5-NCG sitting on the tarmac at Eros (FYWE) Windkoek Namibia. I have the pleasure of working with one of the original crew who flew this ship, Capt Alwyn Bierman, know to all in the Namibian aviation industry as Kappi. I named a waypoint after him on one of the FYWE RNP APCH procedures I did in 2016. We have been trying to get the covers removed and get a few more shots internally. If we manage that I will post.

Hi All, I have been putting some time into the DC-6 now and its going great, really enjoying this beautiful birdy. I did a couple of long flights recently and honestly hadn't been to careful with my power settings when leaning out the mixture. One thing that surprised me was just how quickly the engines will detiorate when using high power with lean mixture. At one point I was literally watching my engines die! It got me onto an interesting thought, in my PPL experience I've always been mindful of causing detonation through excessive leaning but was always under the belief that it is a 'over time' damage causer, not something that will wreck your engines in…

Good Morning, I've a question regarding the PMDG DC-6 on Prepar3d V4.3. I've tried using FSUIPC to set the throttles, and via the sim itself but I have a problem with the engine power settings not settling. For instance, when I ask the AFE to do the takeoff power, he tries to 'settle' at 30", but all I see is the engines moving up and down and being unable to settle on one MP. It seems a little odd and not the behavour I've seen in some videos. This behavour repeats itself across all modes of flight. Could someone shed some light on if I have something set up wrongly please? Thanks, James Walker

Hi Guys, It seems that a lot of excellent repaints (and many hours of devoted work) went down the pipe with aussiex.org site. Particularly interested in a DC-6A TMA Lebanon repaint. Anyone who was able to save this file before aussiex.org went inop? Please PM me. Many thanks for your help, Tamas

I was looking for information on a near-disaster I experienced in 1961 which involved a DC6 airliner, and came across your forum, so I am hoping that perhaps someone here can explain to me exactly what happened. I was a passenger on an overnight flight from Edmonton, Alberta, to London, Heath Row, and was sitting in a window seat on the left-hand side of this DC6. I’m not sure how long we had been in the air, but most of the passengers were asleep, while I was gazing out at the stars – always the same group of stars. Then I noticed that my stars were slowly sliding to the left and disappearing out of view, which meant to me that the plane was turning to the right.…

Sorry guys, I know I had started another similar topic about the Dc-6 speeds which resulted in a very knowledgeable debate. This time my question is more simple: What can you read off the PMDG DC-6 ASI? IAS or TIAS? The speed limit placard (just noticed) on the instrument panel speaks about "True Indicated Airspeed (TIAS)" On the face of ASI the title is simply "Air Speed". In the PMDG manual, in the limitations section there are two speed columns titled IAS and TIAS. Could somebody clarify? It would be interesting to know the devs opinion. Cheers, Tamas

I'm guessing a texture went corrupt or something? Is there a 'verify files' trick or does one have to uninstall the product then reinstall? Then again maybe its suppose to be like this according to the second picture that I see online?

I just bought the PMDG DC-6 and the PMDG 747-400 today. Order #: 426391. I read in a year old thread that PMDG would make the missing tutorial files available to customers. I've searched the PMDG site while logged in with the account I purchased under and I can't find them. The DC-6 Tutorial 1 flight plan is incomplete and the Tutorial 2 Flight plan is missing completely. I don't know if there are issues yet with the 747-400 QOTS Tutorial files yet, but if so I would like access to those as well. Much thanks, Jim

After I reach cruise altitude and the AEF has completed the cruise checklist the throttles for engines 1 and 4 are retarded and a seem to be locked. I loose both engines and eventually power and altitude. this happens every flight. If I press abort on the AEF sheet the lock open the throttles is removed and I can control engines 2 and 3. Sometimes I can catch it early enough to keep engines 1 and 4 running otherwise all I have left for the flight are engines 2 and 3. Using FSX Intel i7 - 7700K CPU @4.2Ghz 64 bit, 32gig ram, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti 12 meg Doug

Hi Everyone, Going to preface this with YES, I know the PMDG DC-6 is currently not compatible with XP11. However, I decided to purchase this plane after Randazzo's 13 June 2018 update knowing this will be supported sometime in the future. For now, I would like to at least try this plane out in XP11, as I know many people have based on forum discussion and YouTube videos I've come across. I do not have a copy of XP10. The installer package I downloaded does not work for XP11 installations. Is there a way to extract the files from the installer package (I'm on a Mac btw), in order to install this manually into XP11 without having XP10 installed? …

Stupid question time: I am trying to figure out the charts at the end of the POH to plan my step climb to my cruise alt to pick up some speed. I cannot figure out what charts charts to use to figure out my climb power and the service ceiling for the particular weight to maximize my climb. Climbing to a higher altitude in a prop isn’t going to add to your range like in a jet. Your fuel burn is roughly the same at altitude, but I will have a higher TAS, so to maximize efficiency, I want to maintain the highest TAS I can for my weight at a given moment. So I want to climb to my service ceiling for the weight I am and then climb again when I’ve shed enough f…

This forum has seemed pretty slow recently, so I thought I'd bump it after a flight... with some observations. This if Ansett-ANA flight 253, 1957 service from Adelaide to Sydney. The PMDG DC-6A/B have been languishing in the back of my virtual hangar, in part because of spiking controls with my Logitech(Saitek) Throttle Quadrant. Those issues have been resolved now, and I just completed a very enjoyable flight. This shot taken approaching the Mount Gambier VOR (MTG) for a southerly detour around the continent. Because I'm a "run the tanks dry" pilot, all 4 engines at some point experienced a power failure as they depleted all fuel in the respe…

This is how I got the PFC throttle quadrant (Multi-Engine Throttle/Prop/Mixture) to work with my PMDG DC-6 in P3Dv4 in Windows 10-64, using FSUIPC (paid version). In P3D >Options>Controls>PFC Throttle Quadrant Console> Axis Assignments> Assign Engine 1 throttle axis and Engine 3 throttle axis to Throttle Lever 1 and 2. (Do not check REVERSE) In FSUIPC > Throttle Lever 1 Axis Assignment in FSUIPC Axis Assignment>Throttle 1 and Throttle 2> Send Direct to FSUIPC Calibration (checked). Joystick Calibration>No reverse Zone (checked)> Separate throttles per engine> Throttle 1>Rev (checked). Throttl…

I added Orbx Monument Valley to my world recently and used the C118 for my tour, starting at KSEZ Sedona AZ (also an Orbx airport) where I found that I had to back taxi on the runway due to structures close to the taxiway so the adventure started as soon as chocks were pulled. Overflying Flagstaff and circling around that old volcano that dominates the scenery there, and NNE over the painted desert and overflying the Navajo National Monument is followed by a large basin with those scattered 1000 ft pillars and formations best seen from down on the deck: After buzzing a few stone edifices I proceed East towards Durango CO, staying low and flying past the Carrizo…

Hi. Today i was inflight between UKBA 91st bombardment group homebase and EGPB , in the cargo version , all controls through FSUIPC in FSXA on win7 system , i was on auto pilot about 5500ft , needed to get away form sim , to get a hankerchief , came back to see BMEMP `s on zero , fuel seleccted to ALT tanks , had plenty of fuel but aircraft speed dropping and entering a stall , at first i did not know what the issue was, but i figured out what happened , as i hung my headset on my second CH throttle quad , the headset must have caught the switch assigned to water rudder , this in turn operated the reverse thrust , while in flight , thrust revese should be isolated vi…

Hi, i did paint a Livery for the DC6. I create a Texture Folder and changed the aircraft.cfg like with the B777 or 747 also. I´m sure (99.9%) that new entry in the aircraft.cfg is correct. I save it on the Desktop and copy the File back to the DC6B Aircraft Folder. And now starts the Problem. Run the FSX as Admin, equal, the FSX dont read the changed aircraft.cfg. Not just only the new Entry, all other DC6 are not shown, also if i delete the Entry again. And so i dont know what is my Problem. Thanks a Lot for all Help Gonzo

Hello there. I am new to PMDG, recently purchased the DC-6 for P3Dv4. I am really enjoying it and slowly figuring out all it's intricacies. I'm starting to use it for VA flights, which means I'm to the point where I don't think I'll screw up too badly! After startup today I noticed a warning light that I hadn't seen before. I had to search for the appropriate breaker to reset. A first in my many years of simming, very cool! Thanks for a great product!
