If I have questions that are general aviation or piloting questions that are not specific to any sim or software, what sub-forum is appropriate to post them in? Thanks!

Hi folks. UK flight simmer here, been using MS Flight Sim since about 1990, including FSX and even Flight. Have FS2020 and a Thrustmaster stick and that is it. i also obtained my Private Pilots License in the mid Nineties flying 152’s, 172’s, Cherokee’s, Warrior’s and Aztec around England. Just learned about the Apps, LittleNav and Bush Trip Injector and have been making my own Bush Trips around the UK using them. The latest being a Bush Trip around and on the Lake District in England, I say on the Lake District as it is set up to fly an Icon A5 amphibian hence there are plenty of water landings available plus dome challenging Farm Strip type Airfield…

Hi there! I've been flight simming off and on all the way back to the first version of MS Flight Sim 1 in 1982. I've used-X-Plane, MS Flight Sim and others and even have a private pilot's license although I haven't flown in years. With the release of MS FS 2020, I'd like to get back into flight simming again. I'm looking for help in building a premium flight simulator including a home cockpit and I'm looking for advice. Here's what I'd like to do and I'm hoping this community can help me. Build or buy a desktop capable of running FS 2020 (or X-Plane 11) with up to three monitors at reasonably high settings. The idea is a front and two side views. My budget for…

I am starting from scratch with FS2020. Should i buy a pc or a laptop? I haven't played before but envisage a lap top screen for say avionics and a large monitor for the view outside. Or do I just buy a big monitor? Advantages of curved screen? Do they distort the image or enhance it? Thanks for any suggestions please....

New to FSX and FS2020. I've crashed trying to land more times than I can count. Isolated the biggest part of my problem to the descent. I can never get to the runway or I'm way past it. I've changed the rpms by 50 rpm or changed the trim by one 'knob' on the trim wheel. The plane always starts the phugoids. By the time the plane settles down I've destroyed my descent profile. Changing in increments to start a descent is nuts. So, what is the secret to changing the speed or attitude (or both) of the plane without having it oscillate up and down?

Hello Avsim, Season's greetings from Seattle! This is my first post here despite being introduced to the community 15ish years ago. I had a handful of great simming years in the early 2000s before I had to put the hobby down and tend to life matters for a dozen years or so. Now that I'm back in a position to embrace the hobby, I've been slowly getting back to full speed. Given how much I've benefited from the wealth of resources shared on this site, I figured it was about time to check-in and chip in. I currently use P3Dv4.5 HF3 as my sole sim. I haven't dabbled with X-Plane, nor with the new MSFS yet (in time perhaps). My thing is high fidelity tubeliner…

Howdy flight simmers! I recently purchased MSFS2020 after a pretty long hiatus from simming. The last sim I owned was the MSFS 2006. I also added a TM 16000m and a PS4 controller (the latter for camera control). I have some questions regarding basic flying technique. Where would be the best place for me to post questions of that nature? TIA!

So I had my son in law build a over the top system that exceeded the hardware specs recommended for the best performance even before the sim was available. I have been flying sims for along time and felt pretty excited to see the updated terrain details we were promised. I mean looking back at the FS 2004 details, then the FSX improvements to that set my hopes very high for the FS 2020 realism. Boy, what a let down. I loaded the sim up, grabbed the yoke and after a few horrible takeoffs and climb out of some of my favorite airports I found the details very lacking. For instance, I have flown (In real life) from Honolulu International around the various other isla…

Hello all! I'm diving back into flight sim after giving MSFS: A Century of Flight a shot and sadly had to drop the game because of the utter lack of captions (subtitles) during the lesson flights. I'm hard-of-hearing, so that kind of thing is critical to me. I watched a clip somewhere recently of someone reviewing the game's lesson flights (it was some Australian dude) and was happy to see that captions are now present! I'll buy MSFS 2020 once there's some kind of discount or code I can use to save a few bucks. About me, I'm just a guy living in Cleveland who grew up loving flight ever since my father used to take me up in his Grumman Tiger (hence the username).…

Hi, I’m Dusty, and i’m new here! I live in Belgium and iv'e been a flight sim and aviation enthusiast for as long as i can remember! I can’t recall which was my first version exactly, but i vividly remember nosediving in to the black and white wireframe that was supposedly runway 36 at Meighs, and since then i was hooked. It was at a friends house and i must have been no more than 10 years old at the time. Time has passed, i’m in my mid 30's now and i’m still as passionate about all of it and still dream of earning my pilot's license, hoping that time and tide will permit it one day. I play MSFS mostly, i love the fact that i can now really enjoy flying VFR, but i dabble …

I have been playing Microsoft Flight Simulator since the 1990s. I have been flying in real life since I was 16, CFI at 20, and have been flying business jets for the last 15 years and have accumulated over 7,000 hours of flight time. I am a huge MS Flight Simulator fanatic. After seeing some tutorials by gamers on YouTube, I thought I can start my own channel and use my real world experience as a former flight instructor and professional pilot to the benefit of others. I do my best to make my tutorials easy to understand for the new flight simmer with zero experience or anyone who has flown in real life and plays FS for fun. My intent is to educate and simplify aviat…

I'm new to Avsim (though I may have had an account many, many moons ago), and thought I'd just say a quick hi! I'm Kevin, from the Tampa Bay area, and while I'm new to Avsim (well, maybe), I'm not new to real life flying, or sim-flying. I learned to fly at KPIE here in St. Pete, then moved out to Vancouver, WA, where I was based out of KTTD, but found I just wasn't using my plane nearly often enough to justify the expense, so I sold it and got out of the flying game altogether more years ago than I'd care to admit. I've since become disabled (my legs don't work right), so I'm not sure even if I had the money if I could get a medical... ☹️ I've been sim-flying…

Hello I have been playing FSX for about a year since the release. That was a long time ago. The latest FS2020 version came out and I am enjoying it. I am mainly playing on the Asian server, and since I am a beginner, I want to learn a lot about flight. Have a nice day 😄

Hi all, im a long time x-plane user but finally purchased 2020 on its release, and I'm impressed I fly twins and heavy jets but have recently been exploring the Alaskan aluetion chain running an amd system which has just been upgraded with the new Ryzen 3900x and my old but still impressive red devil vega 64 gpu. My wife flies DCS and just bought a hotas x52pro second hand with one suction cup missing, but she is getting to grips with it. Looking forward to being a worthwhile member of the community. Hello everyone, Danny here from Manchester UK. I used to be a avid FS addict, but in the last 5 years since my old Desktop PC died and various commitments at home I never got round to replacing it and getting back on the FS saddle. I'm really excited to re-immerse myself back in the Avsim world after what feels like a lifetime away from it. Especially with the new FS 2020. Anyway exciting news, I've got a brand new gaming PC (on the credit card... haha) and I'm back in the game! Just wondered as I am very much out of the loop these days, would anyone have any advice on what would be the best Anti-Virus software for a gaming PC? I want something that's go…

Hello Everyone! How can I add a few (2-3) buttons to the fsx-default 737-800 overhead, like the simple seatbelt and no smoking ones? just to be able to play cabin announcements before T/O and Landing right from shift+4 and not from another window to open (and then close it)... Harrier FS Announcement panel didnt work! PS: I have already misused CabinAlert.wav files to play announcements other than the ones I still want. Thanks in advance!
