Suddenly and unknown "how", none of my helo's (5-6) have rotors when flying. They're in the texture files ok..but somehow not translated to the screen. I think possibly, whatever spins that texture has "gone south". (it works ok with airplanes). Also, while they show flying at, say 90..they are barely moving....as if the "forward" effect has also dropped out. Any ideas on how to get it back? A file from the CD to merely re-write?

Hello! Here are a few of my own pics of the Helicopter WM in Austria. Since I couldn't get near enough to the WM action, the official photos from the post before are a bit better (larger) of course. So you see mostly pics from the helos one could fly with or just sit in (like the Blackhawk, too bad that they didn't sight-seeing flights with it :-)Sitting in the Blackhawk all looked so real ;-) just felt as playing Lonbow 2 ;-)Oh yeah, and what do the pilots if they get bored? Just sit on the rotorblades :-). A-Star. Alouette and its cockpit. Jetranger in action (with bucket full of water). Blackhawk and its cockpit. EC-120 Colibri. EC-135 and its cockpit. I only have one hat switch on my controller.I decided to assign the pan_view to my hat switch instead of beep_trim. Now I can pan around the virtual cockpit using my hat switch and click the arrows on the beep-trim panel to move around in hover mode. The flaw in this is that I can no longer increase/decrease my airspeed while in airspeed hold. I assumed the beep-trim panel would let me do this, but it doesn't. Anyone have a workaround? Thanks, Kenny B

...an "old" Atari video game called Steel Talons. Had a full control set (cyclic, collective, pedals), and a "real heli" flight mode (it also flew in arcade mode). The flight characteristics were enhanced by using real helicopter pilots to provide input to the developers.I have to say that was a great game, and, I was lucky enough to be able to spend a relatively unlimited time on it (I was a tech on video games at the time). When FS2k2 came out, VFR flying was a reality within MSFS (I've been flying MSFS since '85). Now, helicopter flying is just about all I do. As a longtime AVSIM reader, I'm glad you finally set aside separate areas for rotorheads.Darin

Well, I was finally able to convince the wife to allow me to do an introductory flight at the local helo flight school. Showed up at 1pm, and was immediately greeted by their wonderful staff, and met my instructor. Without wasting any time, we walked out to the Robinson R22 that we'd be using. The first thing I noticed was that the doors were off! Hadn't thought about the fact that the Robinson doesn't have any A/C, and that it was rather warm outside! But heck, I was here to fly, and besides, I'd have a seatbelt on!We sat in the helicopter for a bit, with the instructor going over the basic controls, location of levers, etc. Then did a walk-around, and he pointed o…

For those of you who have ever considered joining a helicopter VA, I can assure you that it is very challenging and rewarding work. If you've wondered what helicopter VA's do besides executive transport, aerial photography, or MedEvac operations, here is a pic of one of our Cougar Mountain Helicopter Bell 205A's working a fire at Naji's 'Wild Yukon' (great scenery Naji!!!). We have also recently worked fires at Naji's latest scenery, 'AVSIM Base.' The fire at Wild Yukon proved to be quite a tough fire to control, and the heat and turbulence required great skill on the part of the pilot.Fuel loading, careful weight and balance management, correct airspeed and altitude con…

I think my FLCS/TQS finally died on me. Cant dowload anymore and generates wierd and constantly changing characters.I'm hesitant about the Cougar due to the large dead space issue as I use my controllers for a lot of FS2002 helicopter flying (which requires minute and constant inputs).I'm leaning towards CH USB set-up, but am worried about to much throw and the "light" feel.Any thoughts on Cougar + FS helio?

Yellow all,Thanks to this forum, all of you, and FS2002, I became very interrested in flying helicopters (which I dont know how I let happen, seeing as how I am an airplane man at heart:)). And so, the other day, I went and did .5 in a R22, and .5 in a Hughes 300. Boy, let me tell you, it was a BLAST!!!! Flying the real thing after only the impresssions of the simulator gives you such a rewarding feeling. Now, I have gotten pretty good in the FS helo's.....I can hover in a precise spot, move around with precision, and generally fly smoothly, but the real thing is a bit trickier! For one, the horizon in realation to the aircraft is very hard to distinguish.....unlike the s…

I took a flight in a UH-1 G model a few days ago. After a few minutes at the controls, I was bitten bad by the flying bug. After much searching, I ran across this web page and forum. I would like to see if an aviation SIM can help me in between real flights. Any suggestions as far as software, cyclics, collectives, pedals.....I need to keep it relatively simple since I am a novice to flying and computers. Thanks for your time. Doc V

Just a quick heads up folks, after installing the latest v1.1 of the Dauphin, I have found that I can fly the heli with full autopilot features and NOT have to disable the joystick! Dont know if this should actually happing, but it seems to be working here. Ill tinker some more with it and see if there are any adverse effects. http://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg

Hi all,Just thought I'd let you know that Antti has uploaded v1.1 of his Dauphin to the AVSIM library. This release incorporates a new .gau file, improved documents, 8 bit non-reflective textures (as well as the normal reflective textures) for those who can't handle the normal ones, and a simple engine start/stop sequence (essentialy 1 keystroke), plus other stuff I probably haven't noticed!!!!Go get it!Alun

I had spent over an hour trying to get this thing off the ground the day it was released; no joy. It took me quite a while just to figure out how to move the fuel flow levers, and until the troubleshooting page at http://www.hut.fi/~apankkon/fsim/help.html was set up I had no idea where the engine start buttons were. The revised gauges file that the author provided is the final key; I installed that just a few minutes ago. Note that I seem to have to spool up the engines gradually using the fuel flow levers to be successful.Once I got that sorted, I was able to fly. Certainly this is one of the more challenging helos to fly in FS2002, but Antti has done an absolutely outst…

It was fun to have some folks show up. We had four of us come and go during the session. I downloaded another heli scenery in NYC and flew with the author there. Cool. We messed around the add-on helipads at Meigs and then went to NYC. Thank guys for coming out. I'll try to do it more often and we'll see if we can get some interest going. It's really simple to get RW up and Running and then to connect to a multiplayer session...hope more will come in timeSee Ya! Hello rotorheads,Last weekend I was in Austria (Aigen/Ennstal)at the Helicopter WM 2002. So I thought I post some info and pics on it... (Did you really know that a WM exists ;-)In 5 days several tasks had to be done: navigation flying (finding objects and turn points), precision flying (flying a square at 9 feet AGL with time limitation, turning, precise landing), fender rigging (drop external loads into a kind of small barrel), slalom (get a bucket full of water on a 5 m rope through the slalom and set it down on a table with 1 m diameter) and freestyle (kind of airshow style, turns, nearly full looping..)The first place made a russian team with the Mi-2!Other helicopte…

I have been trying to fly the default Bell 206 with my Logitech Force Feedback Wingman Force 3D stick and I have to constantly push the stick forward to keep the nose from going up. Also I get what I would call dead spots in the stick and then the aircraft rolls rapidly left or right. I do not have this problem while flying any of the other fixed wing aircraft. Is there some sort of "Trim" to reduce this need for forward stick pressure? Also is it appropriate to control the collective via the rotor rpm (ctrl F2 and F3) or just use the throttle (engine rpm.TerryVirtual Rotor Wing Student

I find the French 47G2 great. I have a problem with the flotteurs version, though -- it seems to want to jump into the air with hardly any throttle, and is impossible to land without using the F1 key to cut the engine. I thought of just copying the 47G2 air file into the flotteurs version, but wondered if anyone else had experience this and has a fix.Terry R

........GMAX Bell222b. Nice craft, but a little twitchy, I think. However, it does not have a Directional Gyro for the pilot (on the right). There IS a DG on the left side of the panel in Virtual Cockpit mode.Is this common....... for a helo to not have a DG for the pilot? And if this is an oversight, is there some way I can fix it? Thankfully I had my GPS moving map, otherwise I would never have gotten to where I was going! :-eek-Lindy :-rotor (still in training)
