I just got that new Dauphin Helicopter and I didn't do the execute file I installed it by hand (exe to an empty folder etc..) and when I selected it in game I noticed that there wasn't any pilot in the cockpit. Is it supposed to be like that or did I screw somthing up when I installed it by hand?I hope it does have a pilot figure! The helicopter is so darn pretty it'd be a shame if it didn't!!Thx!Sorry for the dumb question...im kinda new to installing exe files by hand, lolArk

Here is a preview of the Lynx I am working on at the moment in FSDS (still ain't got used to gmax!), I'm planning a AH.9 (with wheels) and an AH.7 (with skids). Also thinking of putting some missile racks on her. A FS2002 conversion by David Brice at DSB Design is highly likely!Comments welcome :)http://www.nelie.org/chrislarvi/updatedlynx4.jpgBest regards,Chris LarvinDSB Designhttp://www.dsbdesign.com

Up until now, I've been working just on getting my choppers in the air and back on the ground without hitting anything, crashing the helo, or killing myself. ;-) But yesterday while doing some serious practicing, I decided to actually FLY my helo to another location.... not far, but away from where I started. Boy! did my arm get tired holding pressure on the stick. I take it there is no trim control for the cyclic/elevator like on a plane? If there IS.... how do I get it to work? If not.... I sure hope someone invents one someday. :-lol -Lindy :-rotor in training :-wave

I thought everyone would be interested in this! A web site appears to have recently launched, and has screenshots and a streaming video preview of the IMAX film: http://www.skfilms.com/WayneN457WS on VATSIM

Hi all, I've been simming for quite awhile now and have taken a new interest in fs helo's. However, I'm not having much luck in finding websites that are dedicated to helo's. Anyone have a nice list of sites?Also... What download would you folks recommend for a helo "trainer"?(link to dl please)Thanks!

Hi folks,A couple days ago I decided to put my CH joystick setup back on-line, and put my fairly new Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS setup back in the box... As much as I dig the coolness factor of the Cougar, I finally decided that it just isn't suited to flying helos in FS2002. This made me realize that perhaps the reason that some people seem to have a really hard time flying the FS helos well is their control setup. So the overall point of this post is that if you're having these troubles, perhaps it's time to consider either switching brands or at least having another setup that is dedicated to the helicopters.Out of the box, the Cougar joystick and throttle were completel…

When flying in the 500D, the craft likes to take off backwards when you leave the ground. Upon inspection from the outside, when the helo is on the ground, the plane of the main rotor is tilted back quite a bit. Only when pushing the cyclic full forward does it lie parallel to the ground *. Is this normal (i.e. does a real 500 require lots of forward cyclic to take off into a hover)? I didn't notice this tilt in some photos I have of the 500D. Could it be due to the orientation of the rotor itself or the angle of the skids? If it's the rotor, does anyone know how to adjust it?* The model doesn't take into account precession so disregard that detail in the rotor tilt/orien…

I just posted a bunch of new screenshots over in the Screenhot forum that I hope you all enjoy. I took a late afternoon flight around Manhattan in my trusty '206, and did a little on line multiplayer helicopter flying with ATC (on VATSIM) this afternoon. It was great fun trying a landing at the East 34th Street heliport, with scenery created by Adrian Cholmondeley. I made an 'almost perfect' approach, under Adrian's watchful eye. :-) He was flying another 206 at the time, N204PD, on VATSIM. When you land short at this heliport, you need floats on your copter! Here's the link http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID47Wayne"SimPilot"N457WS

....... on your sticks for flying your choppers? I've been using the settings recommended by the Hoversafe website -- Max for ailerons/elevators; 75% for rudder; zero Null zones for all and General Realism set one notch below maximum. These settings are working pretty well for me..... so far. But I'm just curious as to whether you all use anything similar or not. -Lindy :-rotor in training :-wave

The Eurocopter AS332L2 (and it's kin: "AS32rep") and Skikorsky S-92. Both very well done, S-92 easier on frame rates. From: http://www.simviation.com/fs2002heli12.htm

...... some progress on my helo flying. Following the tips I've gotten from you all for setting my Realism and stick/rudder sensitivities, I set myself up for another practice session this evening........ this time at Canberra Airfield at Oz. Much, much better! After a couple of less-than-spectacular landings (read: I crashed! :-lol ) I finally managed to get my Hughes off the ground, fly a few hundred yards and put it back down on the ground, all in one piece. For me, that's progress. I also visited the Hoversafe website and read all their suggestions and the FAQ page. I downloaded the first lesson and am looking forward to trying it out. This short practice sessi…

Hi,I was wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction on how to go about converting an old MS Sidewinder joystick )(not forcefeedback) into a heli control setup.I'm figuring that I could place the joystick base on the floor and then attach a stick to the handle. I think perhaps this would create a fantastic, sensitive setup for heli control... and light GA plane controls too.The biggest problem is transferring the rudder setup (twist handle) and redirecting it to an alternative control... pedals maybe... or something on the stick? Do you think the twist handle would still be useable? I'm doubtful, but if anyone has tried it, I'd be interested to hear some c…

Just wondering how realistic this thing is as far as flying it goes...I've flown lots of helo sims... generally been able to manage what I was doing. But with all realism turned on in 2002, the way the helo flies.. well, if a real one was designed like this I have a strong feeling it would be back to the drawing board.Practice, maybe? Doubt it. I can't fly the thing, period... it goes wildly out of control in very short order! For the record, I CAN fly the choppers I've downloaded with almost no problems, on realistic setting... Though I can't get the Robinson to show up for some reason...Any help appreciated! Thanks,Andrew

Bell 407's that Robert "Helibird" and I raced at Stead Field (4SD) on Fly2 multiplayer today, with some race course scenery that I cooked up. Nothing like racing around pylons at top speed in a '407 a dusk, at about 100 ft. AGL!We also took a side trip to Reno Tahoe airport.Wayne"SimPilot"N457WS on VATSIM/Fly2 multi

Just this morning I've run across a couple of posts about using yokes instead of sticks for flying. I'm sure the posters were thinking "planes" as opposed to helos, but I wonder. From a couple of flight simming articles I've read recently, it was stated that you can't fly helos successfully using a yoke. I figured I'd come to the Experts and try to corroborate that sentence. So rotorheads.....how about it? What controls do you use to fly your helos?-Lindy :-rotor wannabe (I use a stick/pedals combo by preference)

First off, I would like to thank everyone for their input regarding my last post. I have a question/problem with oil rigs in FS2002. My helicopters keep sinking through the helipads and I get a building crash no matter what I try whenever I am sitting on the helipad (again this is for oil rigs only). Has anyone else had this problem? If not, can anyone offer any tips to possibly correct this? Robert
