I mean, that new Apache AH-64 simulator, by AvtiVision. I have been playing around with it and at least it seems comprehensive in terms of advanced helicopter handling (Fly-By-Wire), being particularly realistic (?) in the autorotation area!!!I can finally autorotate in a sim not being the bugy MSFS or X-Plane!!!Whow!If only they spent some time producing a civilian port of the sim....Check it at:http://www.gamershell.com/news_BApacheAH-6...AssaultBs.shtml

Well, any of you who have been around choppers in flight sims may have seen my first helicopter controls: Steve's Helicopter Controls: http://www.biztool.com/flightsim/control/Those are 7 years old now and very long in the tooth, so I have built brand new ones: digital, USB and much more realistic than the old ones. Tonight I have just started a webpage to give building instructions, but it is still no where near finished. However there is some info on the site and a couple of pics. To get there go to: http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/shanley/For pictures, scroll down to the bottom of the first page and click on: UNTIL NOW

Hello fellow rotor heads! I couldn't take it anymore and turned my old siatek joystick into a set of rudder pedals by locking the X and Y axis' and allowing the Z to rotate. I built pedals and supported it on a stand to allow for leverage from my size 11 1/2 feet. I had to reverse the Yaw setting assignments panel so the aircraft went the direction that it is supposed to go. Ok, here is the dillema I face now, when I use Anttis Dolphin (which by the way is all I use now) I have to have the letter "r" before the letter "Z" in the cfg file for the pedals to even work. If I remove the letter "r" the pedals won't work period. So what happens is when I give left pedal I …

Actually not all that NEW either. I had d/l'd and installed Antti's Dauphin version 1.2 'Heli-Link' shortly after its release but this weekend realized I had never actually set it up and flown it yet. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it configured to start up with cold engines and recognize my joystick settings with the joystick disabled (as per instructions). My time on the sim is limited so I couldn't fuss with it as much as I should have. I DID manage to get it going with the joystick enabled, using the Ctrl+E start routine. The window for the Trimble GPS was waaay too small for me to read anything. (Isn't there supposed to be a separate, larger window for it?…

Hello, I downloaded the 365 Dauphin when it first came out and for the life of me couldn't get the joystick to work. After giving up, I recently downloaded the latest version and tried getting my joystick to work again. I am using a Microsoft Sidewinder FF2. I have noticed on the forum that other users have gotten it to work successfully. I cannot get the yaw to work at all. Everything else works fine. I have the dauphin.cfg file in the /fs2002/aircraft/as365 dir. Here is my config file:cyclic_pitch=1,Y;cyclic_roll=1,X;yaw=1,rZ;collective=1,SLIDER0;low_realism_setting; Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts! Robert Williamson

I went to have a look at the newly live Microsoft site for FS2004. I can't find any mention of the Robinson, it's not in the list of included aircraft.Update to this, I went to explore the new site further and the features page claims 15 modern aircraft but the modern aircraft page only lists 14 so maybe the Robinson is still going to be included.Peter

Due to lousy wx here in San Jose over the weekend, I spent way too much time sitting here fiddling around with FS2002 and the helos... here are a couple notes.1. I have re-realized how awesome Antti's Dauphin is. I played with it a bit in the early days (1.0/1.1), back when everyone was trying to get their arms around its "differentness" and its requirement to RTFM, but I never dug in deep enough to figure out the SAS/ASE/flight director systems, and since I upgraded to XP a few months ago, I never re-installed the Dauphin into my new FS2002 area. Now that I have 1.2 installed, and have those bits figured out, I am just in awe of this work of art. I have been raving elsew…

Why is it that in almost every addon helicopter available, the fuel capacity is 91 gallons? I have tried to edit this with the aired program, but it does nothing. Also, I can't seem to edit the fuel weight per gallon. Why is it impossible to edit fuel levels?? Also, does anyone have any of the payware helicopters by dwight booth, from thelz.com? I was just wondering if these helicopters carry the correct amount of fuel.JeremyCYWG

Hi everyone:while researching the layout of the Helijet terminal at Vancouver Intl. (CYVR) for Nigel Grant's soon-to-be-released second version of the airport, I came across the following web pages with hundreds of high-quality pictures of different helicopters in action (e.g., heli logging in B.C., SA315 Lama in the Alps, etc.), as well as helicopter-related news. The link is:http://www.dgualdo.it/helicopters.htmI'm not a regular to this forum so the link might be old news... (However, a search of this forum with the author's name came up blank).Cheers, Holger

Hello all, Let me start by saying that I love flying the Default Bell in FS2002, but I must admit, it is extremely difficult to control a hover, and to land. I have sucessfully landed without crashing, but have yet to land on a specific mark, such as a helipad. I read somewhere that changing the realism settings or aircraft settings in FS2002 along with some joystick settings yeilds some better results (more realistic, more control). I'm using a Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick. I'm pretty happy with it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great day. John.

(I posted this today in the www.flight.com product forum, as a request for them to "do" this aircraft. I thought I'd post a copy here as well...)The BA609 has made its first flight (http://www.bellagusta.com/html/newsPress/2003_0307_pr.html, and it occurs to me that this would be a very interesting aircraft to model in FS. It would satisfy both the fixed-wing and fling-wing set... Thus far no commercial FS company has done a helicopter, and this might be a great place to start. Just think: vertical takeoff, cruises at >250kts, a 25000' ceiling,6 to 9 pax. Wouldn't it be grand?Data and photos: http://www.bellagusta.com/html/theAircraft/ba_609/index.htmlDave BlevinsKRHV

I've been thinking about something lately, and decided to post something here about it. Please don't take this as a criticism of freeware aircraft - I marvel at how much time aircraft developers spend on these things and then release them as freeware - but...I have to say that I've gotten spoiled by the quality of some freeware and payware airplanes'/helicopters' virtual cockpits. Nowadays, if I download an aircraft and its VC is one of those "fuzzy" ones with static instruments, it gets deleted from my system. I would like to encourage developers to take the time (and use the tools required) to implement a VC that closely resembles the 2D cockpit in appearance and resolu…

It seems our (Canada's) new CH-149 Cormorant SAR helicopter is proving it's worth. Here's a news clip from a few days ago. Not bad.... 20 in one shot. There's no way the old Lab's could have done that.http://www.canada.com/news/story.asp?id=%7...7D10ED56C137%7DThe CH-149 is the purpose-built variant of the Agusta/Westland EH-101, known as the Merlin in the UK.Calhover long and prosper

In fs2002, is there any way to accurately simulate a helicopter with a piston engine, with mixture control and such other features? If so, has such a helicopter ever been produced?JeremyCYWG

This morning, I zoomed down to my favorite spot on the Avsim forum list, and said, "Whaaaa... No more Rotorhead forum?".Then, after looking around, I see that we've been promoted!I guess that goes to show that ya' can't keep a good bunch of folks in the basement for long. Now, we're up where we can peek out the windows! Thanks Avsim!Tom

I recently designed a BK117 and posted it here at AVSIM. A rather unrealistic error has occurred in that, when landing a bit "hot", the skids leave a tyre mark on the tarmac. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to cure this problem ? I would stab a guess that the adjustment, if any, lies in the .air file. It is entirely possible that the .air file used once related to an aircraft with wheels rather than skids. Thanks for any help that can be given. :-waveBrian Whitelegg.

For those who have downloaded and tried to (self) install Brian Whitelegg's newly-uploaded BK-117......For reasons not known to me, it does not install properly unless you add a sub-folder on to install location - i.e., ...FS2002/Aircraft/bk117_medevac/.There is another, more suttle, anomoly. The landing gear is specified as being wheels rather than skids which makes for some odd behavior on the ground. This can be corrected by opening the aircraft.cfg file with notepad and scrolling down to CONTACT POINTS. You'll notice that the first number in the first FOUR LINES is 1.0000. Change it to 3.0000 so it looks like: [contact_points]point.0=3.000000,10.416667, etc.....p…

Good evening gents! Just noticed this forum devoted to us helo flyers....why did I just notice? It's all the way down near the bottom of the blasted forums list page! Why are we relegated all the way down here? :) Do we not , or most of us, use Microsoft Flight Sim for our flying experiences? Perhaps this page could go under the Microsoft Simulator Forum area......more helo pilots would notice it! Not trying to stir the pot, just a thought!Harry

Some lurking here use the Wingman and I now own one. My Pedals CH-Products Pro USB should arrive today via UPS (color me excited!).A question of two for the Logitech Wingman users:l. As someone new to this, may I ask you to share your "button" configuration(s)? 2. Downloadable game profiles?3. With the pedals handling the rudder, any good use for the "Twist?"4. Comments on the size of the "null" zone?TIA!
