Hi all For many years I have followed Nick Needham's PC preparation guides whenever I purchased a new PC or reinstalled Windows. How many of you still follow this guide when doing the same? I just got my new PC and will install p3d in the next few days. Cheers

Thought I'd share my observations on VAS usage in P3DV2 with Various add-on products. How I tested: 1. See P3DV2 settings here: http://www.robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html 2. Start P3DV2 at Minnesota - St.Paul KMSP and use the Carenado A36 aircraft - weather is clear (no clouds at all) 3. Bring up menu and select Time and Season and set time to 11:46 AM and Season to Winter with date at Jan 4th 2014 (note, this process consumes 100MB on my system, not sure why when the only real adjustment was 10 minutes on time) 4. I've recently upgraded my OS from Windows 7 to windows 8.1 and it seems to have bumped my frame rate up to over 30fps from 20fps at best if lucky (1920x1080). This is on a G860 dual core 3.0 GHZ CPU and old GTX 460 1GB graphics card so basically a PC that cost very very little to put together. I was looking at an upgraded CPU and GPU but seems no point. Note sure why the performance has changed so much for the better yet still experimenting.

I start P3d v2 in an unusual way. First click on the desktop icon. This leads you to an F22 Raptor on the runway at Langley AFB, at Full throttle and rolling down the runway. Quickly slam on the brakes and go full throttle to idle throttle at the same time. This is normal. Go into your setup scenario and select an aircraft and an airport, then click OK. This will lead you to a totally black screen. This means we forgot to delete the .cfg files before we started!!. If at this point you can get the ALT/Enter function to work great!, If not.. Oops... the next step is to Shut Off the computer. The computer has completely locked up and we need to power it down and restart. Onc…

Hi guys, I have just installed prepar3d v2 after using FSX for the last couple of years. I am very impressed by the graphics and overall performance is a bit smoother than FSX even with higher settings. problem is, I get really bad stuttering, what I did was wind all the settings down to medium and turned off AA and everything, now I could run it happily at 28+ fps and it was smooth, but every now and then (and its not consistent) Ill get a complete freeze lasting around half a second, or moments where frames jitter very badly then it corrects itself and its happy again. and it really ruins the experience because its happening about 10 times a minute. the fps indicator d…

Good evening. have my first ctd today...and its ai traffic related. I have managed to get ultimate traffic 2 working inside p3d v2 with no problems. However I have alot of custom textures downloaded from avsim and when I load up at EGKK the sim is fine until it spawns the ai traffic. then the ctd occurs. There must be a texture it doesnt like, or its conflicting with rex 4 texture direct as these are the only addons running. Not sure but after an install of ftx global vector, I notice green roads laying on top of mountains, so I went in and reorder ORBX!VECTOR and ORBX!VECTOR_AEC around to see if I could fix the problem. Does anyone know exactly where these 2 entries need to be? In the manual it states that the installer will put it in the appropriate location and for us not to touch them, which I did, but then saw strange things so I went in to change the order, now I'm not sure where to properly stick these. I have FS Global Ultimate mesh installed, so do these 2 entries need to go above them I presume? Right now they are above all the 110x Base entries, and below Africa with ORBX!VECTOR_AE…

I recently installed an ORBX FTX Freeware pack for FSX, more specifically Neil's sixth freeware pack for Global containing 10 airports in Hawaii (North America Pack 6). I compared the pictures of the airports of what it is supposed to look, and what I had once installed, and they don't look anything alike. I followed the installation procedures and it showed all of the files in my FSX folder, but the airports don't seem to have changed. Please help!

Anyone tried this out in P3D v2 yet? It looks immense.

I get a pop up saying "attempt to call a nil value stack traceback" everytime I exit P3D v2. I noticed this started to happen after I installed a few Carenado planes. Could this be the reason why?

Before buying P3D v2.0, I would like to know if EZdok 1.17 or whatever the latest version is will work under P3D v2.0? I recall seeing a thread on here that some people were able to get it to work. It's been awhile since I've been on here so would like some help. Thanks!

Hi, I posted the below on the official P3D forum but maybe someone here can help. On the Saitek Yoke there is a mode wheel behind the right hand side handle that reports DX buttons 9, 10 or 11 depending on it's position. This can be verified in the Windows calibration section. In P3D v2 ALL of the switches on the attached throttle quadrant (the one that use the DIN type connection) also report either 9, 10 or 11 depending on the position of the yoke mode wheel. What this means is that I cannot map any functions in P3D v2 to any of the switches on the attached Saitek throttle. I also have a second Saitek throttle quadrant but this is a USB version. This works …

Although I did about an hour of flying/testing without issue I exited out of P3D and after starting it up got am error message. So tried again and now the whole screen is BLACK. I can here the sim running in the background but cant see anything. LM are aware of the issue. If like me you were stuck in full screen, then ALT+ENTER and you should get the MENU. Disable HDR and exit the sim. After a restart you should be back to normal without HDR lighting.

I currently have FS Global Ultimate meshes installed for FSX and plan to get P3D v2. Is there a way to have both P3D v2 and FSX share the same installation files? That way I don't have to waste valuable space by having to install 2 independent copies of the meshes. I really hope there's a way to share the mesh between the 2 sims. If anyone knows how to do this, feel free to show me how. Thanks. Would it also be possible to share scenery as well? This would save a lot of time and space. For instance I'd like to share FTX Global, FTX Vector, REX4, OpusFSX, UT2, and being able to use it with both P3D and FSX.

Posted this over at Aerosoft site also, but I can't seem to get the Twin Otter Extended started in P3DV2 ... I've gone thru the checklist about 5 times now getting a "Green" check on all the items ... but as soon as I hit the start switch I get a fire warning bell and the fire handles turn red ... somehow I immediately start an engine fire? Yes, I know you can use shift-z, but thats after startup of P3D 2.0. Its there by default, every, single, time.

Here's a strange one for you. Starting about 2 weeks ago, I started seeing these strange structures with odd textures littered across the landscape. The textures appear to be from other sceneries and 3rd party aircraft, and they are different every time I load P3Dv2. I have no idea why this started and what caused it. CYZT - Port Hardy Airport in British Columbia, Canada looks really bad in UTX Canada. I was wondering if someone who has FTX Global Vector can take a quick look at this airport; in particular the approach from the water towards runway 16. You don't have to post a screenshot (although one would be great); but just give me your impression of how well the airport looks integrated with the surrounding area in FSX.

hi there, when flying with GA aircraft P3D 2.0 works very well. Yesterday I installed the Airbus X Extended as well as the QWings Avro into P3D 2.0. As soon as I fly with those big planes the ground textures (FTX Global/Vector) don´t load and I get massive blurries, the autogen and scenery objects load way too late and to slow. My settings are set moderate. water and scenery complexity are set to max, as well as the sliders to set mesh resolution, etc. Autogen set normal. Anyone experiencing the same? Do the heay planes need too much performance, e.g. on RAM so that the texture won´t load? CPU and GPU are not on 100% load, so there should be performance l…
