Hi all MD-11 enthusiasts!I've a slightliy special question, at least I didn't find any precise explanation in the manuals or this forum. If the External Power connection (3rd MCDU) is set to auto, when will external power and external air be connected after landing and shutdown? Thanks for your help!Maximilian

How do people manage failures on long range flights?I've always wanted to use the random failure generator, but on long range flights I run the computer on autopilot, only coming back for step climbs and landing. Is there any way of getting the sim to pause when a failure is generated?

Alexandra hi thanks for the prompt reply, I hold my hands up for not signing it however if its the contents of my post thats at fault then i respectfly submit that with my problem the dividing line between a product fault or an installation problem is very blurred , I was hoping that some of the forum members could relate to it However I have taken you advice and made contact with PMDGwill keep you posted regards f cann

Hi all, I'm back with another probably daft question, but gotta ask.The correct procedure during shutdown is turning off the IRS switches thereby shutting down all nav functions on the Aircraft. Is it possible in the same FS session to turn them back on again for the next flight, or do I need to restart FS9 to do my next flight?I have a flightplan ready and waiting to go tomorrow, EHAM-TNCM-TNCB-EHAM, although I doubt I will have enough time to get back to Schipol as the first leg to St Maarten is 8 + hours. Can I shutdown at TNCM and then follow the normal procedure again to do the TNCM-TNCB leg without restarting FS9 again? Thanks for any info or help.

I read some very interesting articles about the concepts of the MD-11 FMA as well as documents describing how to improve it recently. I've seen some rather strange and unexpected (by me) annunciations myself already during my virtual flights but haven't taken the time so far to "decrypt" and analyze them in detail. The FMA of the MD-11 is still somehow "unfamiliar" to me and works very differently to others if you ask me, and at times it surprises me, I have to say. FMAs in general seem to work in a way that's not necessarily very "human friendly" and need to be kind of "deciphered" to get an idea of what is going on. After all what I've read so far it looks that it's stil…

Hi FolksNewbie here , I've been flying the pmdg MD-11 for a while now & enjoying every minute of it but one thing that confuses me is the service ceiling for the bird.basically I'm trying to find out the service ceiling, I use fs commander(v8.6) to plan my flights , When I select the aircraft I want to fly in this case the MD-11 the maximum height it will allow me fly is between FL290 - FL310 & the aircraft ceiling is fl350, but flying the tutorials I fly at FL370 & watching some videos on the net I see folk flying higher again.Do other folk using FS Commander(V8.6) to plan flights for the PMDG MD-11 , Do you have this problem. What is the Official service cei…

Ok, I´ve been having this supposed "problem" for a while now, and even after doing lots of testing, I´m still unable to track its cause. I run FS9.1 on Windows 7, a clean install on its own directory outside Program Files and running as admin, following many recommendations. FSUIPC settings are standard. On any flight, over any region of the world and through any weather conditions (including, most notably, clear weather with absolutely no winds, as set via FS and FSUIPC) the MD-11 will constantly deviate slightly from the flight plan track (generally 0.1nm to the left or right) and then produce a noticeable turn of about 5º bank angle to reintercept. It will then fly str…

I recently began to fly the MD-11 again, and it's been great, but I have a few questions concerning the general operation of the aircraft.1: How do you refresh the route in the FMC like you do in the 747? In the 747 you right click on the first waypoint to copy it and right click again to refresh. How is this done in the MD-11? Sometimes the route gets messed up, and I need to reconnect and/or refresh it.2: Where is the STEP option you get in the 747 when in plan mode? When I select plan mode in the MD-11 nothing happens in the FMC. I have no way of cycling through the flightplan.3: Does this plane come down like a rock on approach or is it just me? Don't get me wrong, I …

  17. I'm getting a "black screen" FS9 failure at LFPG. It happens when I have loaded my flight plan (not manually) and I try to select the departure. I click on "LFPG" (LSK 1) and then click on "SID" (I believe it's LSK2). Everytime I do this I get a black screen and eventually the "FS9 needs to shut down..." thingy. I can load the MD-11 at other airports and follow this procedure without issue. What do you think is wrong at LFPG, in my install? Where do you suggest I look? Don't you hate this stuff? There are so many variables that, when a problem occurs, you are left with this wild goose chase to figure out what is wrong. At least this one can be isolated (so far, that is) t…

Hello,Not sure what the issue is but when I load "Load Panel - Before Engine Start" there is no change. Engines are still running. I've used this option many times and never had an issue. I took about a month break from flying and noticed this issue when I got back. The only thing I can think of is I might have accidentally saved the panel on a previous flight after engine start up.Thanks for any help!Chris K.

Hi all.First part of the header is an AES IRS align oddity I came upon at the weekend.I was following the basic tutorial, loaded FS9 with the Swissair MD-11 at gate 212, PMDG tutorial flight with electrics running and decided to set AES to align the parking to the correct placement. All went fine until I went to align the IRS and promptly came upon the issue that once FS9 was started with the Aircraft at the gate, using AES to align the parking deleted the N5238.1 and W00027.1 co-ordinates from the FMC F-PLN INIT page 1/3.Tried many times with different variations of the co-ordinates to align the IRS but no joy, kept getting a Format Error or Not Allowed message. Is there a…
