PMDG MD-11 (Legacy Version)

Simflight.com recently did an extensive Review of the PMDG MD-11 X. The author depicts some imperfections on the exterior model. PMDG emphasizes that they have access to original Boeing material, so I assume they have modelled the MD-11 according to real world dimensions. Apart from the obvious bugs like the free floating slats panel(s), is the author right if he says that the exterior model of the sim plane doesn't match its real world counterpart exactly? After all, he compares using photographs and not blueprints...P.S.: I hope we can expect a "final patch" some time in the future where those imperfections will be pretty much corrected. It would be a real shame if that…

To ask another of my silly questions: My understanding of TO stab trim is that less elevator is needed for rotation. But what exactly does TO stab trim, put the plane into a "neutral" state (such as no up/down forces on the elevator) at rotation time?

I was flying my PMDG MD-11 today and flew into Portland, Oregon. The weather was poor, Cold and rainy with low visibility. Just now i was reading the Cold Weather operations chapter from the FCOM and came across this tidbit of information that clarified what occurred on the landing in Portland. Hello all I was wandering if the cockpit window shades are in the fsx version of the MD-11. I've been running fs9 don't see them in there as I also run the 747 Queen and they are there. The reason being thinking of switching from fs9 to fsx .Thanks,Shannon Stewert

Hi all,Today I started a flight ( still in progress as I type this ) and setting up the aircraft, from cold and dark, at KJFK.After lighting everything up, and turning the IRU to align, I normally ( and have done so on many flights with the MF11) I select Initialize IRS on the F-Plan Initialize page and says "Not Allowed " .This was something I had not struck before. To fix this, I had to go into the REF page and inhibit the GNS, Initialize the IRS and go back and re enable the GNS.Does this happen when a fix cannot be obtained, or the old girl was having a bad day ?Your thoughts ?CheersJulian Evans

Hi all it's been a while!I'm having an issue with the "app/land" not engaging right. I fly the "Vatsim community" and enjoy it very much.when I fly offline I have no problem only because I fly the sid/stars a lot right to the ils approach.when I fly with "Vatsim" online,most of the time they direct me by "hdg" when it gets close to the "ILS",that means disingageing the "FMC"stars and flying the "ATC" hdg. when I get to final usually around 3000ft I hit the App/Land" It then engages then reverts back to "hdg" mode after a second or three, and I can't seem to re engage it,without doing it manually :( Is there something I have to readjust in the"FMC" or what?If someone out…

I see that at high altitude airfields you can use fap 50 to land.Are there any rules of thumb as to how high an airport is before using flap 50?Is it also down to runway length and weather conditions, rather than just the elevation of the airfield?

For those of you who like doing real world flights, KLM are the only operator who continue to use the MD11 Pax varient. Below are the flights.I was led to believe that only cargo flights existed and World / Sonair Charter, so was pleased to discover this. I'm trying to install a repaint on the MD-11F, I copy the info on the aircraft config file and then transfer the textures folder to the aircraft sim folder but when I load up the sim nothing shows up! Any help would be good. Thank you.

Hi All,Just yesterday I noticed that when I finish push back in the MD11, the tug driver says "pushback is complete, set parking brake please" and then right away the pilot's voice says "brakes are set, and pressure's normal" even before I set the parking brake. I can confirm that the brakes aren't in fact set because I was able to push back (and brakes shouldn't be set in an MD11 that is being loaded or unloaded anyhow) and I can taxi normally without any dragging brakes issue. I do use CH Pro pedals, however I don't se any indication that the brakes are applied in any way. Any ideas on this one? Thanks!

Hi all,When I try to reframe my FMS, Trottle quadrant etc my 2D screen freezes and can't do a thing. Now I'm trying to uninstall the MD11 but when I use the installer I don't get the option to uninstall with Windows 7. Does anybody know the best solution for this?Regards,John

Hi Guys - Iv racked up hundreds of hours in the 747, and have decided I fancy a change!Im currently starting to learn the MD11, although i have had the boxed version for a while, iv never spent much time on it.So im reading the Tutorial 1 pdf, and have completed that. A little different to the 747 to say the least!Anyway, what i would like to do is select my landing runway without a STAR. In the 747, i could do this by choosing the runway, and entering a distance in NM so the FMC would automatically create a 'virtual' waypoint that i could then pick the localizer up and land when removing the discontinuation.Can someone please let me know if this is possible in the MD11 a…

How do you tell what version of the MD-11X you are running?I bought and downloaded the MD-11X in January 2010. The other thread about the v1.20.0055 update got me to looking at my install and I can not find the version that I am running anyplace. In FSX under the "About PMDG" tab it lists Version (App): 10,0,61355,62 and that in no way comes close to 1.20.0055.The readme file that came with the setup app says "PMDG MD11 for FS9 Version v1.20.0055", but I downloaded the FSX version, not FS9 so I can not go by the readme file either!Rod Storer

Hi, I have the classic problem of discrepancies between the axis of LOC it is tuned and where the plane pulls me (MD11) and B747-300-400 PMDG, can someone tell me how I can solve it, the display mode ils in ND is correct but the bars A/D are aligners comand and with the P / A Engaged follow the orders of the comand bars, and not the real indication that I'm ILS mod on ND a point outside the real axis select. thaks in advance.Villa

Hi!I have a problem installling additional liveries to my MD-11X, when installing I'm getting error messeage "Aircraft.cfg not found. Please Reinstall your PMDG MD-11X before installing this livery."Additionaly, I'm getting error messeage when launching FSX "Scenery read error. Attempting to open a nonexistent directory : c:\program files (x86)\microsoft games\microsoft flight simulator x\texture", also, now i can't select MD-11X, it's just not on the list of planes.Is there any way to point the MD-11 installer to the aircraft.cfg file?
