Hi md-11 simmers! I do have a lot of questions about the logic used when climbing. But it is still too complicated to put it into one coherent question! I'm reading, testing and then reading some more, then testing again. But I'm still puzzled at the aircraft behaviour when meddling with this. Frustrating, yet interesting! But I'm at a loss now, and humbly ask for help: I think my first question is a straight question: I'm at level flight FL012, and the FCP ALT is dialed to 12000. Hi all, It happens quite some times that engine sound is not heard any more in cockpit mode. All other sounds within the cockpit are ok. Engine sound can be heard only in outside mode. The engine sound within the cockpit "dissapears" immediately after the initialization count down upon selecting the MD-11. Any hint? Thanks, Christos

Hello everyone,I was extremely surprised to see that the Orbis livery has never been reproduced for the PMDG MD-11. I know the real bird is a DC-10 but since its almost identical to the MD-11, i thought someone out there would have done it. For the ones who don't know, Orbis Flying Hospital travel around the world to provide eye care to ones in need; it is a such a great initiative and gesture to help poor areas around the world. Hi there, yesterday I got my aerosoft MD-11 box and before flying today in the evening I've some questions regarding the MD-11. 1. Engines: The MD-11 was available with GE and PW engines. On md-11.org there are some range charts. And the one with PW has a less range. From what I know from the 744, the PW Engines are more powerful. So are the PW Engines really less economical but give more power? How comes, that the PW has a more bass sound and the GE has a more "whine"? 2. You can switch between tape and dial engine display. KLM uses the tape one. But which one is "better"? Can the pilot in real change this? 3. What does "Wind Display Cross" mean? I mean, …

After building a new rig, my MD-11 will not allow me to have both the Overhead panel and the pedestal undocked and open at the same time. With a multi monitor setup, I use to be able to have my overhead on my upper monitor, outside view on my tripple span widescreen with TH2G, my main view on my lower and also another lower to the right with the FMC and Pedestal undocked. Since the new build, if I have my overhead undocked and put on the upper when I click to open the pedestal to undock it and move it my overhead disappears. The pedestal will also disappear if I then open the overhead again. Any thoughts? Charles Poole

Hi, My MD-11's been running with the same error for well over a year; It used to cause a CTD after I'd been flying it for a few minutes. I can't believe it, but I found a fix! You might want to take note of this somewhere if this error happens to you. So right click on the FSX icon, on your desktop or wherever it is, and select "Run As Administrator". Now normally load the MD-11 at an airport of your choice. Those of you who are familiar with the MD-11 will know that it's highly automated, yes? I don’t use average winds for long distance flights in the MD-11 so I make no entry on line 6L of the FLT-PLN INIT page 1. I enter altitude, wind direction, and speed for each waypoint by entering the information on the VERT REV page accessed from the ACT FL-PLN page 2 of 2. This works fine except for flight plans between Europe and the west coast of the United States. A typical flight plan might be 45 waypoint of which 30 are just to get out of Europe, up the North Sea and across the top of Great Britain. So 2/3 of the waypoints account for maybe 10-15% of the flight distance. So an average wind is no good for this flight plan. I have confirmed with HiFi that the average…

Hello everyone, after recently getting back into FS9 I decided to hop into my PMDG MD-11 and relearn the ropes. As this was this was just a test flight for getting a feel on how the aircraft and autopilot handle I put procedures on the back burner for the duration of the flight. I set my CDU to reflect my departure and destination airport (Both being KPAE for this flight). Passing 10 thousand feet the autopilot came off and I was promptly reminded why me and this aircraft fell in love in this first place. Hi to all, I'm studing ATS and A/P of my MD11. In the last flight I tried to switch off AP (Z shortcut) and ATS (C shortcut) during flight, and then LSAS (V shortcut) too. Let's suppose your are flying, if A/P is ON and try to disconnect LSAS (press V) FMA gives me a RED warning message: AP OFF, that's correct! If I push "Z" to shut off aural warning FMA become YELLOW with message: AP OFF: If I revert ON LSAS this warning become white: I think this behavior is correct buy my question is: where can I find in the manual the YELLOW FMA message? I can't find it anywhere, only find out RED and WHITE warning, no more. Many thanks for your help

I made a search regarding this topic and found quite a number of threads on AVSIM and elsewhere but failed to find a single clear answer, either because it relates to REX which I don't have, or because solutions when found were not explained... As the title implies, I cannot see any light on the ground in front of my MD11 cockpit. I do NOT have REX but AS 2012 and I did not install any freeware plane other than the WOAI aircraft. Could anyone share a solution to that problem please?

So there I was ... climbing out toward my cruise altitude and plane, with a load of 450 is in alpha protection and about 50 kts above stall with engines in climb thrust and the altitude is only 16,000 feet? Now I know I am not setting my FLEX temps to exact margin but I have had to kick the AT off and control thrust until cruise speed and then let the AT have it back. Also, with the AIR sys in auto, my packs keep getting turned off at climb out and never turn on again. At one point I got a warning about cabin alt reaching 10,000 and I am clueless as to why three engines bleeding air can't keep the pack on. FSX using FSX PMDG-MD-11

Good day everyone, I am having a consistent fatal error with FSX, right after selecting PMDG MD-11 in the plane selection menu. The game is freezing as the plane attempts/begins to load the AIRAC database files. It never progresses farther than "0" in loading the AIRAC files. I have checked over my dll.xml file which seems to be fine. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise, on a Macbook Pro via Bootcamp. i7 CPU, 8 Gbs ram, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M Windows Event Viewer shows 3 errors. Hello everyone, I've recently switched over from FSX to FS9. I have the boxed version of the PMDG MD-11 for both fsx and fs9. I just purchased the FS9 version last week. I have a question about the sound in the FS9 version.... Is it normal for the sound to change as I look to the left and right of the VC? What I mean is, when I look to the left or right, I get more ambient sound (at least I think it's ambient sound), and as I look forward again, the sound is reduced. I have two flight plans (EHAM-KSEA, EHAM-CYVR) for the MD-11 that go north of 73 degrees latitude. Whenever I do these flights the HDG MAG automatically switchs to HDG TRU on the PFD around 73 degrees north and remains there for duration of the flight. Leaving it on HDG TRU has never caused any problems that I know of. Does it need to be changed to HDG MAG once south of 73 degrees north? I can find info about it in the Systems Manual except about wither switch it back. Thank you Michael Cubine

During flight, the VC guages disappeared and were replaced by gray panels. Some disappeared and left (transparent) openings though which blue sky and clouds were visible (very unsettling ~:) I was able to successfully complete the 5 hour flight (most of it in this condition). Screen cap attached. When I restarted FSX and reselected the same (MD11) flight the VC gauges looked normal once again. Any idea what may have caused this? I can't think of anything that I may have done to prompt it. I was running FSX in windowed mode with Flight Sim Commander running concurrently of the same PC. Morning, Is it possible to rewrite the MD11 cfg file to get the default FSX atc to direct the cargo versions to a cargo ramp? The last to time I flew the plane, was directed to a general aviation parking ramp.
