Hello everyone, new to the X-plane community and after having a break from flightsims decided that I miss it to much to not do it. I flew using Fsx and enjoyed it, but looking at the situation now do I go back to Fsx or go with X-plane. I have read the differences and experienced them and to be honest at this moment in time Fsx beats X-Plane hands down when it comes to quality of graphics and system functionality and I am sure there will be many X-plane followers who disagree but this is my personal experience. Obviously additional software is much more available for Fsx, but then how long is it before this about to change now there is no more development with Fsx. I enjo…

I have been into flight sims since 1994 (Fs5, ATP), and followed the MSFS line right through FSX. My better half, who is an Apple computer owner and fan(atic) :) , is buying me a MacBook Pro, my first non-PC machine since the early 90's.I will be keeping my Q6600 PC, and I understand that running FS on a Mac requires a multi-boot / Boot Camp solution. One of the things I keep hearing about X-Plane and third party development is that"Third parties don't want to develop for X-Plane because it's constantly changing"While there is a grain of truth in this statement it's really a myth. I'm unable to install the Windows version 9.40 Demo of X-Plane 9. I downloaded the "Installer 2.05 Windows" file from the X-Plane site. I run the installer and it always fails at the same point. I've attached a text file containing a snippet from the end of the log file that shows where the problem occurs. I have no idea why I'd get the error message "Service Temporarily Unavailable (#503)" at the same point of the install every time. Odd. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Using a search of the forums here, I found one other thread about the Demo not installing but it didn't describe a problem like mine. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi,I converted my scenery to X-Plane. At first sight everything looks OK. As I have not X-Plane I must relay on beta-testers.I do not know if PAPI-lights are converted and work perfect. Is someone able to confirm that even PAPI-lights do convert in a perfect way ?Have also the program OverlayEdith. Yesterday I could open it but today I don't remember anymore how to fill in the path. Could open the Help files and saw the world map.I tried to register on the site of X-Plane but i got error message.Thanks anyway. Jos

I'm thinking about blowing the dust off of my X-plane box I bought at Airventure last year... This coming from a guy that's used MFS since '95. I've literally grown up with Microsoft's sim. Of course I'm keeping Flight Sim on the hardrive, and using it primarily...The real question is this. Are there QUALITY heavies for X-plane (systems/flight model) in the likes of Level-D and Fly the Maddog-- I know I've missed a bunch. Besides well simulated heavy metal, I've been eye balling the X-Scenery Marquise. Has anyone else had problems with extremely low framerates after upgrading to 9.40. Even after turning rendering options down to practically nothing frames just crawl along like a slide show. Xplane was as smooth as silk for me @9.22 and slowed a little @9.31, but now it is absolutely unuseable. Unfortunately I did not copy my Xplane folder prior to upgrade so I can not roll back - except to 9.0 from the CD and then some of my addon aircraft won't work. It's frustrating that Xplane doesn't have a means of rolling back to an earlier version when upgrades go afoul. Just wondering if I'm the only one with this problem or if anyone has any suggestions. As x-plane begins to grow a bit more mature, there's some behavior going on in the x-plane community that while I'm sure is no different than anywhere else...(because people are people), I'm curious as to how others might view if IF they're affected by it. I went to Best Buy to see if the PMDG 747 was in stock and it wasn't. Then I saw they had X-plane.My expectations are fairly low, I am mainly buying X-plane for choppers. In FSX I fly fixed wings a large amount of the time; there are very few decent choppers for FSX other than Dodosim. At least X-plane *attempts* to model stuff like "vortex ring state".The lack of scenery shouldn't bother me too much, I plan to mainly fly around the Gulf of Mexico on ships and oil rigs. Saw a scenery file on Hovercontrol that replicates one I have for FSX, that places a large number of default oil rigs in accurate locations.Donald

I have used FS for many many years. I decided to download the X-Plane demo to check it out. I have some really basic questions. 1. can the joystick hat-switch be setup to pan around?2. does the 3d cockpit have have click spots.3. is there an easy way to map the keys to be consistent with fsx; or any way?i appreciate any info

I am a newbie coming over from FSX. So far, I have only flown the 172, but I do like the feel of it and the stability and smoothness of the framerates. A few suggestions for the next version of X-Plane. I played around with the months slider in the environment window and the seasons don't change at all!? Unless I am missing something, this is going to be quite unrealistic in the Northeast in January. I was hoping for some nice fall colors let alone snow in winter. Secondly, the scenery is very good regarding the mountains, terrain, and water areas. But is it possible to make the urban areas like they are in the real world?
