Help wanted for X-plane scenery development :If anybody is interested in working/cooperating with me, please PM me or contact me at [email protected]'s been a while since I last produced and offered Chicago and Washington, DC scenery packages for X-plane v8. They do work in v9 and will hopefully work in v10 as well. I have almost the same level of enthusiasm I felt when I first developed the freeware Chicago scenery for X-plane v5, but I am getting older and less energetic ! For those interested, please checkout the xpcities You-tube channel.Only candidates serious, dedicated and willing to commit to some sort of longer term project need apply. Don't mean to be harsh,…

Prior to the release of X-10 the Village was happy and overjoyed, with high hopes flying bliss will soon be had. The happy day suddenly appeared like a rainbow arching across the sky after a cold and dark rainstorm. The arrival of the beloved X-10 was greeted with mixed emotion as few villagers quickly snatched up the first copies and gave it a whirl. The reviews and chit chat about X-10 soon filled the village and the local taverns abounded with stories good and bad. Soon rumors and heated debates caused strife and woe as fights broke out near and abroad. In a small village, one such tavern, was suffering from a well endowed debate roaring into the night. The elder, …

Surfing the net, I found a few pieces of information that just might spark some assistance. Many have been planning a new PC or upgrading components. Here is a good news item that I thought to be useful:January 9 Launch Date for AMD Radeon HD 7900This is being released as a guess, but with good thought behind what is coming. IT may not be accurate for when you can get your hands on one, but will be able to see what is just around the corner.

Why do the flight models pitch and yaw so violently? This would break apart the planes. Is there a setting to calm this down, Why is the no sense of speed when taking off?

I have several questions regarding X-Plane 10 and don't know if they have been answered.1. What is the price?2. Are the graphics comparable to FSX default?3. Are third party developers interested in creating payware for it?4. Are the cockpit's comparable to FSX payware?

I got my disks today-took about 4 hours to install but went without a hitch. Then I proceeded to do what I always do when I get a new sim-takeoff from my home airport-see how it looks, and follow the roads north visually to the small lake I live on and see how it compares to rw.I do this test because often my small lake isn't even there (fsx has it missing-add on's fixed this), and also to test correct road placement etc.I have to say my expectations were a little low-xplane 9 thru autogen of factories and low res tiles around my area and it looked like a toxic waste dump!Well I took off in xp10 and wow! The roads, houses all looked totally appropriate and the many lakes …

Hi Geof,My nav lights were ok, but I did find and anomoly in the F33 Bonanza. The wheel doors won't close with wheels up. I just happened to jump ut of the plane while I was flying, (I seldom do this), and lo' and behold', the doors were open, wheels were up OK but doors stayed down. Have you had this? Maybe I'll try to Batch convert in PlaneMaker to see if that makes a difference.

How do you launch X-Plane 10? After looking at the manual, it states that I should have a desktop folder for X-Plane which I don't. I installed with downloaded installer and then updated with downloaded updater however, there is still no desktop X-Plane folder or reference to any X-Plane items from my Windows 7 Start menu (All Programs). Also, where is the official X-Plane forum - here at AVSIM, Flightsim or where?

See attached pic of artifact that occurs at startup. Does not affect flying in the sim, just the load screen.Using an ATI 6950 video card, all drivers up to date.

Anyone else using the747-400 in XP10 now made available FREE for XP9 . It's excellent.Commercial Level Simulations got it right in my opinion when they realised that a sizeable group of simmers like flying a nice looking Airliner with reasonably believable flight characteristics that doesn't take 30mins to prep after 10hrs of flight manual reading. And with their 747 they nearly succeeded. Good looking it was but unfortunately despite their valiant efforts they were working within the FSX framework so forget about practising IFR the ADI was a slide show, landing and groundhandling was ..well FSX standard (nuff' said) and you had to take the V-speeds with abit of salt .But…

This may seem to be a personal attack, it's not, it's a disappointing observation......I come here because I enjoy flight simulation of all kinds. Does one of them give me everything I want in a simulator, no. It's just something that we all have to accept. They all have certain strengths and weaknesses. What is really getting annoying, frustrating and quite frankly is turning me off coming here, is every post I read that has the slightest bit of negative criticism about any version of XPlane, someone here at Avsim reacts like it is a personal attack against their favorite child. These forums are for open debate, discussion, idea throwing, good or bad, and yes criticism. Yo…

I hope this doesn't turn into one of those out-of-control conversations. My goal here isn't to criticize. Instead, I'm hoping to share my quick impressions of my first flights since installing the full version, in the hope that I can be helpful to other FSX users coming to X-Plane.A very quick take:I loaded the BK 117 at KGAI at night and flew over to KDCA. Extraordinarily good experience. The helicopter flight model in X-Plane is much more fluid and responsive than the one in FSX. Even the best FSX workaround - the Dodosim Bell 206 - feels a little mechanistic in comparison to the BK 117.Night flight, as others have noted, is remarkable - captures a sensation of rea…

I've been an avid Flight Simulator user since I had my first copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator for my old IBM 8088, back in 1986 then came Sublogic ATP and I fell in love with the heavy irons. I've owned every version of MFS since then and including FSX. I have also owned X-plane 9 and have pay ware aircraft for it as well. My biggest frustration with FSX is how badly we have all needed for Microsoft to fix the bugs that crash your system. That's why I have tried to switch to xplane to see what I was missing. X-plane 9 was a good sim but not great. FSX was a good sim but not great also. I have found that the argument of the flight model in XP vs FSX is completely irrelev…

I would think by now, most of us would realize this is not a flight simulator at all, and this is said for all the sims that are on the market. What they really are...merely a method to determine if we happen to have the best computer on the planet. And of course we never have, and never will, but that is a joy to technocrats. If we could get these things running at 100 fps at with all sliders as far to the right, all the radio buttons checked, and boxes x'd in would we be happy? Of course not, we would immediately start looking for a better computer and a more realistic simulator. :-) LOL!!!The reason I know this is the old saying, "It takes one to know one".Flame on!

Hey everyone, I received my x plane 10 DVDs today and I finished installing it.The problem here is still with beta 10.0.3 still performance issue I get slow fps 14-17 Fps without HDR and fairly Low, medium, and hight settings. I have i790 OC 4.0 and 480 GTX and 12 gigs or DDRAM3 and the sim stutters and run worse than the demo I've tried with beta 2. I have a mac pro with12 cores with 16 gigs of ram and ATI 5870 and it doesn't run any better. As far as scenery, yes it's plausible but don't look like real life yet. I have tried KLAX and KWHP which is my home airport that I fly from in real life and man there are no airport building in any airport yet ????? not even a TO…

Hi all,Firstly, I must say I have no allegiance to MS FSX nor am I anti XP, but have enjoyed FSX and its predecessors' for many years. I am fortunate that I have a decent rig with 3 x 24 monitors, TP2GO, Orbx, etc. I won't bore you with the complete specs.Like many, I've downloaded the XP 10 demo from their website, spent a good few hours getting my rig working with it and configuring my joystick, TrackiR. I really wanted it to blow me away.Whether it's my familiarity with FSX and / or all the Orbx addon's I have I can, at this moment, honestly say FSX has NO competition. Period. It was just a sheer pleasure getting back into the pilot seat in FSX.Just my opinion.D.

Dam you guys are GOOD. I couldn’t make sense of the recent thread. Seemingly oscillating from polite considered response to outlandish personal vitriol dressed up as fact. But then it came to me in a blinding flash buried deep in one of TKylers replies.“....I will acknowledge that I can't tell you why I care to even comment or get involved, I usually say, "comes with my DNA", but I do and perhaps it's just to pass the time on Saturday mornings while I avoid house work.”Brilliant just brilliant.....all this winding up is a male conspiracy to get out of house-work.Now I was privileged yesterday to go flying and it was great. Flying a Slingsby T67 being introduced to the del…

My apologies in advance if the answer to the question is obvious or easily found - it's just that I haven't found it so far. I'm a newcomer to X-Plane and that means there's a lot of information coming at me at once, so there's a good chance I've missed some of it.The question: is it possible to save different joystick sensitivity curves and stability settings with different aircraft? I'm finding that different aircraft benefit from different settings, and it would be nice to be able to load and go, rather than re-tuning the joystick by hand each time. The latter isn't a huge burden, just a mild inconvenience, but being able to avoid the step would be better.I'm aware …

Hey Benny_,Pity your thread seems to have been locked. You have made an important contribution to th X-plane community and may be perhaps the FS community as well, in showing us what can be done and dream of what's possible. One of the things that bothers me, and forgive me for my ignorance here, is that the principles of flight dynamics have essentially remained the same for, shall I say, decades ? But the X-plane FM keeps changing almost at every update. In fairness, perhaps the X-plane FM gets more refinded as better hardware may provide more sophisticated as well as more frequent sampling. With that in mind, I have wondered about keeping the FM separate from the scenery…

A sad thing about Open street map is that building coverage is very bad outside of Europe. But there are a few places with very good coverage, one being Boston. You can read a bit of info about how they collected the data here : http://www.mass.gov/mgis/lidarbuildingfp2d.htmand here's a map of the building coverage: http://www.mass.gov/mgis/lidarbuildingfp2d_av.jpgI added height information on some skyscrapers then generated the scenery, the result is far from perfect (red roofs textures are more suited to south of France than Boston), but it's plausible in its way :)
