  2. I would like to install the newer Intel 845 chipset drivers. I understand that I un-install the current drivers under add/remove programs. What else do I need to do before istalling new drivers? Is it like video drivers where there are remnants left from older drivers that must be removed before re-installing?Thanks, and advice is most appreciated.Bruce.

Hi.Having watched with dismay as my computer ate lightning 2 weeks ago, I have just been given permission from my bank manager (wife) to replace it. My budget is not unlimited but I still want to buy the best I possibly can for, amongst others, FS9 with PMDG's 737TNG.It's going to be a 3Ghz P4, it's going to have 1Gb RAM, it's going to have a large hard disc and a good monitor. With everything else equal though, am I going to see a significant performance increase on a machine with an 800Mhz front side bus compared to a machine with a 533Mhz bus? Also, how much better than the 128MB GeForce4 FX5200 is the 128MB ATI Radeon 9800? Is it worth paying the exra money? Many tha…

Hi all, I have been having problems lately with my computer, it'll just shut right off and try to reboot.. EDIT--- NO IT'S NOT MSBLAST :-(The 1st problem was a bad solder joint on the MOBO were the PWR SUP plugs in... FIXED ( I noticed this after a thorough cleaning and upon restart the CPU fan would not kick in and would have a black screen )I still have the occasional shut offs though.. I think it is with my +12v source... What are the practical safe ranges for voltage ?? I've searched all over for these numbers with no avail.+12 I get 10.4-10.8 **** Kinda low don't ya think ??-12 I get -12.40-5 I get -5.76+5 I get 5.05+3.3 I get 3.28 *** Is this one s…

Does anyone have any comments or recommendations relative to backup programs such as Nero, Adaptech etc? Some time ago when I bought my present system, included was a Yamaha CRW2100 CDRW along with Adaptech 4.02 and an early version of CDDirect software. Originally with Windows 98SE, it worked fine. I upgraded to Windows XP Pro several months ago, and unless I am mistaken, I was able to copy some files directly to CD's implementing only the XP provisions. It has been quite some time since I tried, so memory could fail me, but I don't think there were any problems with a straight copy of data.Recently, I had a hard drive crash. In an effort to find a method of backing up my…

Is anyone successfully using more than 512 Mb of RAM in Windows 98 or 98Se? I am unable to get my PC to boot with 2 512Mb sticks of DDR333 SDRAM even though Microsoft has a workaround (doesn't work for me)...I used the Microsoft XP web page Upgrade survey to see if I could easily upgrade to XP and from the look of it a clean install would be much easier. Ugh.. ;( Any help would be appreciated.:-wave

My computer will be in for its annual service etc. whilst we are away on vacation (it is on 24/7 the rest of the year as I use it for works and play).Anyway I want to upgrade my cpu to a P4 3.0 and need a really good mobo to go with it. I have read at Toms Hardware about the Gigabyte GA-8KNXP which seems really good but there is a difference about bench testing and running constantly.Has anyone got one of these or alternatively what mobo do you use with a P4 3.0 and get good results on FS9. If it works well with that it will do nicely for work as well (one must get one's priorities right :-lol)

I would like to make an image of a new XP instance I have created. I have PowerQuest Drive Image 5.0.If I ever wanted to copy the image back to the partition where my OS is located (C:), how does that affect the boot files? I'm assuming I would format the partition before copying OS files to it, so would I lose the boot files too? And if so, would they be on the image that I make of C:?I'm obviously having trouble with where these boot files are located :) Thanks for any help, much appreciated.Bruce.

  18. I have thought about this for that past couple of years and am finally trying to come to a conclusion. I currently run an AMD2100 1meg ram GIGAbyte mode with a GF4200. I utilize only headphones (midrange quality) and the onboard sound chipset. Occasionally I get a buzz or clicking, no big deal for me, but my real question is;Can I expect a frame rate increase by utilizing a sound card? If so, can you guess at a percentage? (5,10,15)thanks

ive decided its about time to upgrade my PIII 700 to a more modern system. The problem lies in the fact that i live in melboure australia and consequently the only custom computer dealer I know OF is Dell. Does anyone have any knowledge of other custom dealers such as alienware or g-machines that ship to or are based in australia. Other wise Dell is the only option... not that thats a bad thing but they're not really catered towards all out gaming...Help would be cool,Regards,Mark.

Before I plunk down the money, does anybody currently use this monitor for FS? I know it says 25ms for it at the Dell site and from what I am hearing, I should get a LCD with a reading of 20ms but I can't find any at the size I want, >20". Any help would be appreciated.

I've shutdown the system completely and come back but I still get this message. Can anyone help? As I can't use my PC at the moment. 22. I have an ABit BD7II, which can accomodate CPU's of either of 400 or 533 FSB. I assume the FSB differences are various clock speeds in order for the P4 to be able to multiply up to the rated CPU speed?I'm wondering what are the effects of either FSB on system performance? I'm running 1G of PC-2100, and currently have a P4 1.8G 400 FSB CPU installed. This motherboard can take CPU's up to 2.8G, but is limited t either 400 or 533 FSB (cannot do 800).I'm also wondering what are the useful effects of a hyperthreading CPU in FS9 (or FS2002)? My understanding is that this means a mobo change (800 MHz FSB), and may not be worth the trouble- unless it does some great things to…

And will it be worth shelling out the money for the card? Will there be much improvement over my old card? Many ThanksRichard Hingston
