Hi, I am planning to build a system capable of good performance in FS9. What do you guys think about this list? (extracted from newegg )You can compare this system with the Alienware Area 51, of course the fancy case is not included... But I manage to find some cool parts.... Thermaltake Xaser III V1420A Chassis, 12-Bay, ( BLACK ), ATX Super Tower. Aluminum Front Panel and 1.0mm SECC Japan Steel Body. LARGE SIDE WINDOW. With 7 fans and Lock + (W0009)420W Power supply. AlloI have 2x512mb sticks of TwinMos DDR PC3200 RAM and an A7N8X Deluxe mobo. What I'm after is the best possible performance. I have almost no idea when it comes to hardware and all these terms like Latency, CAS etc mean nothing to me. What can I do (BIOS settings?) to make it run at it's best?My system performance is, I feel, not what it should be for a high end system, sometimes it is very sluggish so I'm keen to try to get it running at it's best.Any help or advice appreciated!

hi,Lately I have been having this problem in fs2004 (look at screenshot) whenever I try to fly in low visibility or in fog. I have tried everything I can think of...(updating to the official ATI catalyst 3.6 drivers, and trying the omega 3.6 drivers and no go.) I have no idea how to cure this very annoying problem which happens in both windowed and full screen mode.Andrewhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/28629.jpg

Hey,Pardon the ignorance, My Gateway came with a Geforce 4 MX440 128mb, I suspect that it is plugged into a PCI port. Can someone help me confirm if this card is AGP or PCI and what port it is docked to??? Is it possible this is an AGP card connected to a PCI port? If so, if I connected it to the AGP slot I should get better performance right? My system:Gateway P4 2.531gig ddr ramGeforce 4 mx440 128mbIs there a way to check via the properties/settings or the desktop menue? Some of the info I have found:Bus: 4xAGPDirectX version: 8.1 (weird, I installed 9.0a with fs2004)Location: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0 (this was found in device manager)This is why I am confused, s…

What's the best refresh rate to set your monitor if you want good (not great) quality graphics in FS2004?Thanks.

Howdy,I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 that seems to be working very well for me in this sim (does have the "normal" issues with FS9, but otherwise great!). I have set my Direct 3D settings to AA = Application Preference (and have it deselected in FS9) and AF set to 4X's with the preference to Performance. My question is, for FS9, should I be setting these same preferences in the OPEN GL dialogue window as well? Does FS9 use OPEN GL in any way? Many thanks for the help.Glenn

My origonal idea was to piece together something like this:Asus - P4T533-C mother boardPentium 4 2.8 ghz 512k 533 fsbPC1066 Samsung RDRam, 2-512 sticksOne of those fancy brushed aluminum cases with the little windowMaxtor 80 gig 7200 HDGeForce 4 Ti 4600I called around town and chatted with a local computer guy and he started trying to steer me to aPC Chips mobo (he claims it is just as fast as anything out there)AMD 3000 XP with 1024 cache 400 fsb (claims that it would beat just about any P4 out there and that Intel has nothing even close to it in terms of cache, whatever that means)Crucial DDR2300 ram, 1 gig worth. Now, I've never heard of a PC Chips brand motherboard. I'll be getting my long-awaited Radeon 9700 Pro later this week and would like to know which of the drivers currently available for download offer the best performance and (of course :-hah ) the least problems, because I remember some people were reporting odd effects such as extreme flickering on minimizing or windowing of FS when using one particular driver package. Thanks! :D

I posted about this problem a few months ago, but I haven't been able to get rid of it, so I'm trying again, since I'm about to go crazy. :-boomSince I installed a Radeon 9700 video card I sometimes get a loud buzzing sound through the speakers and headset, usually when using FS2002 (or 2004). It has also happened once in the game Mafia. It has never happened in any other situations - I can play music, movies, and other games without any sound problems. And I never had any sound problems before when I used a GeForce 2.It seems to be connected to graphically "intense" situations, but it's hard to confirm, because I have been able to fly for a whole day without any problems…

Hi all, I have what used to be a top of the line system - P3-600, ASUSMB, 384 Mb RAM Voodoo 3-3000 AGP Video, Soundblaster Live, 13 GB HDD, MS 98/SE OS. At the present time, it makes me happy, all except the video. Seeing as 3D-FX is gone, and I cannot go with a new system right now, what do the experts suggest as a replacement. My main interest if FS2k2 and I would like to be able to dispense with mip-mapping in the aircraft textures to get some sharper textures. I have read through a lot of postings on this form - but all that did was confuse me more :-) Thanks for any assistance.

Some may thing it strange that I ask this. Is it possible to underclock a processor?I have multiple systems running FS add-on software. Not all need the the full horsepower of the AMD processors. To reduce the heat output from four computers, can the AMD processors be underclocked (ie reduced cpu frequency, cpu voltage, etc.) to reduce their heat output? Thanks,Richard

Hey guys!! i got a question here this bugs me very much!!!!!! OK here we go i upgraded my system pretty recently and so on and among things i upgraded i bought a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 256mb ddr.But before i knew it i didnt have enough power i only had a 300 watt power supply so i went and bought an 550 Watts instead hoping that this would give enough power to my card. I insterted everything as normal. Then time for startup first thing i noticed was that i could select higer resolutions MUCh higer so i tought this is GREAT!! OK then on to the problem.I started up Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with high hopes now then BAM! a screen came up saying OUT OF RANGE 85KHZ 75HZ. i…

Following advise on this forum I finally got my ABIT Siluro GF4 TI4200 128MB 8X card to replace a Voodoo 3500. The choice was made over a 64MB Radeon 8500 AIW that was selling at the same price. Following further investigation in this forum I installed the GF4 with 44.03 drivers, according to some the absolute "panacea". I used Rivatuner to set 2X AF, -.5 LOD and 2X AA. Sure enough I got a bunch of weird things happening with the menu bar and popup menus in FS2K2 on full screen, which did not come up in windowed mode. Some more research on this forum led me to switch to 4X AA which in fact made the full screen menu and window problems go away, albeit with a big frame hit.…

Can anyone confirm if the GeForce Ti4200 is compatible with DirectX 9? I've downloaded the lastest NVidia detonator package and it doesn't seem to support it. And, unfortunately, there's no going back to DirectX 8.1.

Since FS9 runs pretty good on my current system (usually 10-20fps), I'm wondering about the feasibility of just upgrading my processor rather than getting an entire new computer to increase FS9 performance further. My current system is a Compaq 8000 series, AMD1800+, 512 PC2100 DDR RAM, GF4 Ti4200 64MB with 1410 driver o/c 275/565, 80G 7200 HD with 40G free, Win XP Home sp1, DX 9.0a, etc.....not sure what motherboard I have for the AMD1800+ chip, I assume it is Compaq proprietary board....My basic question is can I easily upgrade my chip and/or motherboard to a faster AMD or P4 processor? I thought I would check here first about the feasibility before checking with my loc…

Sorry if this has been asked, but I just want to confirm. I had a weird system error and the BIOS was reset with different timings. I reset the cpu from 100MHz to 133, and it is reading correctly as 1400 now. Am I correct in thinking that I should set the memory at 266MHz?Thanks for the help,Todd

Does FS2004 take advantage of dual processors or a single HT processor? I am going to eventually upgrade to a P4 3.0 800FSB, an i875 mobo, and 1G of PC3500, and I want to know how FS performs when loaded down. If anyone has a similar system and has all sliders maxxed, with complicated aircraft (PMDG 737NG for example) and 100% AI traffic (with UT preferrably) and complicated scenery, please let me know how your frame rates are. Thanks! regards,-drew-

Hi folks! I've just got FS2004 and it seems that my relatively new GeForce 4 460 GO doesn't work well with it.My question is: Users of PCs can change their graphics card anytime by simply opening the computer's case. What about users with laptops? I have a laptop with the above mentioned GF4 GO 460. Am I stuck with this for the rest of this laptop's life, or is there some way to change it?:) Melvin Rafihttp://www.meljet.com/images/MelJet-logo-01.jpgwww.meljet.com
