I'm an nVidia user, and am contemplating changing to the ATI range of cards, given the comments I've read here and the need to upgrade from my current Ti200 card. So please forgive the somewhat naive questions.1. I assume a 9800 Pro is better then a 9700 Pro? The reason I ask this is some advice I read here about using a 9500 Pro in preference to a 9600 Pro (I assume the 9600 was a "dog" ? ). If the 9800 Pro is indeed superior for FS, is the degree of "betterness" worth any additional $$? (I also note that the 9700 Pro is no longer available at my favorite on-line hardware place).2. Is ATI an OEM? (ie. are there ATI cards manufactured by other card brands, such as …

Is there any way to backup all my files to CD's with a continual run similar to what is done on floppys, tapes, or other folders on a hard drive? (Where when one CD is filled, it simply says to insert another).I can do this by copying to the CD's, but I have to calculate the fill for each CD on an individual basis which is a pain in the neck. When I try to do this with WINXP's backup wizard provisions and browse to my CDRW drive, I get an error message: "The backup file name could not be used. "F:xxxx.bkf". Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access."Thanks:RTH

After over 2 years of use with no problems at all my computer has decided that it has to re-boot every 20 to 45 minutes. The only thing I've done lately is ad Milton's 680. It has the Runway info gauge and I tried the gauge out one time and right after that it started this re-boot thing. I had been flying the plane for a few days without any problems. I really didn't think the gauge was the problem but I deleted it anyway. I had read some time ago about some kind of a problem with the runway info gauge and that's why I deleted it.Then tried flying one of the planes I've been using for a long time with no problems before but it still does the re-boot thing every 20 to 45…

I recently ran 3D Mark 2001SE on my system, with the following results:Ran EndItAll, so no extranious procs going on.Test 1: AA off, Performance set to 'middle', AF 4x,with texture sharpening, so that I was really using 8x.3D Mark Score: 7300Test 2: AA off, Performance set to 'middle', AF off with no texture sharpening3D Mark Score 9500!?!Test 3: AA off, Performance set to 'performance', AF off3D Mark Score 10000Test 4: AA off, Performance set to 'pretty'(or whatever the high image quality setting is, AF off3D Mark Score 10500All scores approximate. Now, my question is, what in the world is up with Test 2? Surely AF cannot hit my FPS that much, as in FS and every other …

EDIT: Spelling MistakesI know, another topic about upgrades.. as you can see from my sig, I have an old system, but it runs great, and plays most games very well, like Battlefield 1942, GTA Vice City, C&C Generals, the only game I really have any trouble with (big surpirse) Fligh Sim, I can run the game and get a a steady 12-13 FPS with the POSKY 747-400, and it does look pretty good, but like lots of people I am worried about FSCOF, so my first question is: Will I be able to run the new FS version, now the seconde question about processors, the highest P3 processor that my MOBO will handle is 1 GHZ, I know about powerleap and how I can get a 1.4 GHZ processor, but th…

As some who read here often know, I tried a Radeon 9200 earlier this week, and found its performance for whatever reason, far worse than my old and dying Geforce 2/TI.... I returned it, and decided to go with another hard to get, but oft recommended card--an OEM 4200/TI I ordered from Shentech with 128 Megs VRAM... It's a whole new ballgame... RAW FPS isn't faster--didn't expect that at the 800x600 res. I prefer. But 2X AA, which hit my system in FS2002 and FS2004, now has no penalty. Neither do A/C reflections. And FS2004 has the most beautiful water reflections and scenery now in general.... Almost seems like FS2004 was made with the 4200 in mind....I'm very pleas…

HiI just upgraded from an ASUS Geforce 2 GTS 32Mb AGP to a PANDEX (??) Geforce 4 MX440SE 128Mb AGP and i'd like to hear from others with Geforce 4 cards.I downloaded 3D Mark 2003 and it told me I can only run one game demo. I ran the demo with the GF2 in and the FPS were pretty choppy and in the game demo, in the end my score was 179. I put in the GF4 and seeing as I went from 32mb to 128mb I expected a big improvement but the FPS were basicaly the same and my score was 189. Is it just me or is that a very small improvement? I installed the latest nVidia drivers as well. How do you guys benchmark your 3D cards? My system is AMD XP1600+512 DDRGF4 128Mb DDR (after tod…

I've got a cable modem and running XP Home and using a router. My gaming machine is hooked up to the internet to download 3rd party aircraft only. I do no general internet browsing with it. Don't even have anti-virus software on it. My email isn't active on that machine either for obvious reasons. What's the best way to just disable the internet connection when simming? If I just unplug the line, I get an error message. No icons in the sys tray to right click on?

Hi,I currently have a P4 1,5Ghz, 256MB RAM and a Geforce 3 64MB and I'm planning to upgrade (certainly the RAM to 512, but I'm not sure yet of the processor or videocard-so any advice on that one would also be highly appreciated), but how do I do that? Do I just go to my local store and ask "please give me 256Mb of RAM"? How do I install it?...looking forward to your replies

Hello all, I plan to upgrade my mobo and cpu to a 3.06 p4 from an amd 2600.I will be reformating and reinstalling XP pro. I've read the registration will give a phone number to get reaurthorised if enough of the system has change. All else will stay the same. Any one have an expearience with this???? Would this be enough of a change to cause this??? I do have a legit XP pro. Just wondering what to expect when I go through the pain. Thanks in advance.

I have a Gforce-2 and have used each official and non-official release of Nvidia drivers since owning it.To date, the Nvidia 44.03's give me such sharp and incredible detail--no blurries now..EVER, as well as such fast and instant banking performance. No stutters, no hesitation. This has never been the case before this driver version.I mean Faaaaaaaaaaaaast! The best yet. I see that if you stick it out with your vid card, the drivers finally will mature to it and bring out all the rendering and performance power that was always there in the chip. The 44.03 driver package off of Nvidia's site does that in force! If you are running with a lower driver (suite)version...trust…

I just installed this card along with the newest driver 44.03. I have seen many negative posts about the card, but its the one I have. Does anyone have any suggested software settings both for this card and for FS2k2Pro to get improved frame rates. I have seen an improvement in the clarity of the textures, but I have not noticed an increase in frame rate. Thanks

I recently built my own PC with FS2004 in mind. I wanted the best that I could afford so that I could run flight sim with as little FPS problems as possible. I use FS as a training aid and it is basicaly the only reason I have a PC. My spec isP4 2.8ghz 800mhx fsb + hyper thread512mb PC3200 400mhz DDRGFX 5200 128mb DDR (this is where the problems start, I think)80gb Maxtor hd40gb Western dig hdSoundblaster Live 5.1Asus P4P800 MotherboardMy problem is FS is behaving like a spoiled kid, ie it does exactly what it wants! It frequently freezes on the create a flight page, my performance is not as expected and the lastest thing is my planes turn a glow in the dark green quite o…

I'm off to a hardware update for FS2004 but I can't shake off my budget restrictions. I have decided to spend thick on CPU/Mobo/RAM so I have to decide quickly between two low/mid level video cards offered in town.Card A is a ABIT Siluro GeForce 4 TI4200 128MB AGP8x TV out & DVI for $149.00 shipping included.Card B is an ATI Radeon 8500 64MB All in Wonder AGP 4X card for $160.00 shipping included. Please focus on 128MB vs 64MB, 8X vs 4X AGP, All in wonder (not too useful for FS2004) vs only Video out, and $149 vs $160.Which is more card for the value? A or B?Thanks.Mauricio

Hello, I wonder if any one can help me with the following problem: I installed Elite's King Air throttle quadrant in FS2002. When I launch FS2002 a window pops up saying that it needs FSUIPC 2.92 or later, when I have FSUIPC 2.975 installed. I tried with all versions of FSUIPC starting with 2.92 with the same result. In FS2002 I can use the Elite menu, but the throttle quadrant is inactive. Has anyone had a similar experience with Elite's TQ and how did you solve it?JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg
