I'm actually very happy with my PC and the way it runs FS. I've just got upgraditis, a desire to be ready for FS2K4, a desire to move all the sliders to the right, and a spare bit of cash. Here's the deal:Currently have a home built 2 year old PC:AMD 1400 Athlon512Mb DDR RAM (2100 I think)unfortunately occupying both available slotsEpox 8K7A Mobo - allows a max upgrade to AMD 2400 Thouroughbred40 GB HD 7200 RPM (from previous PC - now 4 years old)Radeon 7200Windows XP (recently upgraded from Win98)I'm thinking of an incremental build to the tune of $500.My thoughts are:new AMD 2400 CPU - c$90new Radeon 9800 Pro - c$400Worried that the AMD 2400 CPU won't show off the 9800 …

I've been pondering this dilemma for awhile now. I have a new Dell 8300 and I installed a Radeon 9800 Pro and have since been worried about the amount of heat coming out of that thing! I just got a new computer for my flight sims but was severly dissapointed to learn that the Dell 8300's only have a measely 250w power supply. Some people sticking up for Dell have said that because Dell is "Dell" and they know what is going on, their case and 250w power supply and cooling fan can handle such stuff. (They even offer the 9800 Pro on the 8300 from the factory.)On top of that, you need an adaptor on any non-Dell power supply's and so I'm really thinking about paying $150 for t…

Hi,I recently replaced my Logitech Joystick (worked great) with a AFCS Yoke and CH Pro USB Pedals. The problem is everytime I reboot the yoke is disabled. I have to unplug and plug it back and then it usually has to be recalibrated. The pedals are OK. Any help appreciated. Thanks,Pesi

I'm thinking of perhaps reformatting my hard drive just in case I didn't uninstall the previous nvidia drivers or whatever, but before I do so in order to rule out that perhaps I have a lemon from Dell or ATI, can you all please throw my way some hints on perhaps what I'm not doing correctly? My system: Dell 8300 P4 3.0ghz 875P w/ 800MHz FSB, new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card, 512mb PC32000 RDRAM, SoundBlaster Audigy 2 soundcard.First off, the system seems to run just fine in everything else, from IL2:Forgotten Battles to Hitman2 that came with the soundcard. (I have an Audigy 2 Soundblaster.) Although, when I run FS2002 it seems to take a lot longer than my previous mach…

The braking function in fs2k2 with the pedals is terrible. If I move my foot down just half a millimeter, the brake goes down. Anyone know how to fix this or at least delete the brake function?

Hi Fellas,My MS Sidewinder 3d pro stopped working with Fs2002pro. Still working fine with other flt sims ie Cfs1/2, Fly series etc.I've tried setting to defaults to no effect.Rudder and throttle are ok. I don't get any aerilon control. On throttle up my left wing stays down, and then naturally my plane (any plane I select) crashes. I have not added any 3rd party stuff prior to this happening. I just started up Fs02pro one day and now I have this problem. I've tried selecting thrustmaster product joysticks in the config and that doesn't help either.Maybe there a way to edit the Fs2002.cfg to correct this? Jim B.Win98se, Dx8a.

For the past 18 months or so, I have been using a P3/1000, with 512 meg SDRAM and a Geforce2 Mx vid card. I have been quite happy with it -- framerates have been good enough for me - except maybe for some areas like London which I had to avoid. But I have just built an AMD XP2400 based machine with 512 meg DDR ram and a Geforce4 TI4200 vid card. At this stage , I can't honestly say that the sim looks any different to me -- BUT it somehow FEELS different . I have much better FPS of course- and the sim is a lot smoother -- but overall, the difference in the feel of the flying is tremendous. For example, I find it much easier to land - and I am now flying in the 3D cockpit.Ba…

Hello everyone,By the end of the summer I am planning on upgrading my computer. What I am looking to do so far is:Mother board: ASUS A7N8X (I like the idea of the Nividia nForce 2 Chipset.)Memory: 2 x 256 PC3500 DDR ram (I understand it is better to run this memory in pairs.)Processor: Something along the line of a Athlon XP 2600+ or 2700+ (so it is not too expensive.)Video Card: I am looking at either the GeForce FX 5600 128 mb or the Radeon 9500 pro or 9600 pro, both 128 mb (I think I am leaning towards the 9600 pro because of what I have read on Tom's hardware).Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? I want to limit my spending to under $450 dollars. There ar…

Hello Everybody, I have a few small questions I would like to ask before upgrading my Dell 2.0ghz P4. First off my computer runs great with all the sliders maxed (ALL, even AI). 1) I have a Geforce 3 TI-200/.. I was always told that the "TI" line was better than the "MX" line of video cards, so I went with the TI. Now I see TI 4600/4800s, but I also see a new card the 5900 FX. What is this FX series of cards? Is this the next "low-bugjet" MX series, or is this replacing the TI series as cutting edge technology fot the Gefore cards. 2) Also, can I just plug a 5900 or TI4600 into my old cards slot, or do I have to get a new motherboard? (I know very little about this stuff…

I thought I would share with you all an upgrade success story that might be titled "there's life left in those old 423 pin P4 motherboards."I was one of the people who bought a first generation p4 chip, not knowing that Intel was going to change the socket in future versions of the chip. This severly limited the machine's upgradeability - as the 423 P4 chips top out at 2.0 gigs. So, I upgraded my 1.4 gig p4 (its a Dell Dimension 8100) to a p4 1.9 and pretty much thought that was it. Not so. Last weekend I installed a Powerleap socket adapter, available for just over $50, and a new 2.6 gig 400 mhz fsb Pentium 4 ($200 apx) into the box. The performance increase was noticea…

I downloaded the latest 4403 deternator driver, and the Latest Nvidia Stereo 3D driver 4403, and find my Sidewinder Joystick does not work when I go 3D. I have XP home edition. Duron 1.2 ghz, 512 DDR ram, TI4200 Geforce 4 graphics card, A7N266-VM motherboard.Anyone else have this problem at all? Works fine if I don't go into 3D mode. If I go back to 2D The joystick still does not work, so have to end FS2002, and restart it Tried Vritual Sailor which I have also and the Joystick works in 3D, so the problem may only be with Microsoft FS2002?Any ideas on how to get around this problem, as it means I cannot use FS2002 when in 3D mode.

My IDE setup is as follows: My old HD with Win2K on is master and my new(=fast) HD with XP is slave, on the same IDE ribbon. FS resides in a partition of the new HD and is run in XP.I consider swapping master ans slave in an effort to ensure that I get the last ounce of performance out of the system, hence I intend to cut the boot.ini from Win2K paste it in XP, shut down, swap master and slave and then reboot. I also intend to change drive names to their original ones with PartitionMagic so as to keep the O/S aware of where everything is.Does anyone have any word of advice or caution, or is it safe to carry out this operation the way that I described above?Thank you all …

I have just built myself a nice new AMD XP2400 based machine on a Jetway mobo -- using a Western Digital 7200 rpm ATA100 with 8 meg on board cache HDD.Everything seems to work nicely with it - and I have used a programme called HDTach to compare the Hdd performance to the one in my old P3/100 system. The numbers I get for the new system are far better than my old systemBUT -- my old system also has an ATA100 drive in it - and , on bootup, it shows up as a UDMA 5 drive on the POST screen. However , this new system only shows as an ATA33 drive.I have checked that I am using the correct 80 core ATA cable (supplied in the mobo box) -- so I am wondering whether the Hdd is act…

I have a Dell 733 mhz PIII with 256 mgs ram that I recently upgraded from ME to XP on a new Maxtor 7200 rpm 30 gig HD, I have used about 1/3 of the drive so far. Everything was working perfectly for a couple weeks, now issues are cropping up. In MS2k2, my contrails look like white lines(I have an integrated video driver (intel 810), will upgrade soon), flat and vertical. When I boot up my system goes through the normal boot up loads some small stuff in my start.ini in msconfig until it gets to the sound driver. Then it stalls for, and I have timed it, anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes. After that it works fine. I have tried a new driver for my Soundblaster Live! Value for…

Hello-This relates to another post which I saw but cannot track down again. My question is: Can you use more than one PCI card in a WINXP based system? The post I saw previously I think said that only one PCI card could be used in a multi monitor setup with WINXP. I would like to install 2 PCI cards in addition to my AGP. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.
