  1. How many of you are using XP's or W98SE's standard Microsoft-supplied VIDEO MONITOR DRIVER for your CRT or Flat-Screen?If you are, you could be cheating yourself out of added video performance giving crisper, clearer images on your monitor.Features could be not available as well.I own a ViewSonic A90 19 inch monitor, and after downloading the latest DEDICATED driver from ViewSonic's site for my A90, lo and behold, I picked up THREE extra scan-rates that the default Windows driver from Microsoft did not offer me. The result of using the dedicated driver from ViewSonic is less strain on the eyes, (running now at 100 MHz scan rate) and clearer graphics with no more MOIRE (t…

Hi everyone,I just bought an ATI Radeon 9800 pro (256MB )and wondered if anyone could get me started off on what settings to use with FS2004. There are settings in windows for this card that I've never even heard of and may need tweaking even before I alter the graphics setting within FS2004. If anyone has found a good combination of settings to get the best out of this card I'd be grateful for your help. One thing I have noticed that I found annoying was, on flying over new ground and taking a quick side look from within the cockpit, I noticed big light grey squares where the scenery hadn't been rendered. Although these were rendered quickly I find it a bit annoying beca…

..you should consider to get another monitor. I received my Sony 24" 16/10 monitor today and I am absolutely amazed. I am sitting about half a yard in front of it and it almost fills my view. For the first time I can let my eyes wander around the screen. In the VC with TrackIR the sim sucks you in. I have a lot of hardware, GoFlight units, throttle quadrant, touchscreen for the GPS etc., but this is by far the best addition to the sim yet.I guess the model is discontinued and is available on the net all over the place for reasonable money. I have seen it for as little as

Anybody want to comment on what the better card is here? They both seem to be around the $200 mark which is much better than paying double for the newest cards from each manufacturer..I understand that the performance increase from using something like an FX5900 compared to the new 6800 is not much at all.. this is likewise with the ATI 9800 compared to the new X800..so I was thinking about saving some money and getting one of these cards instead of the newest out..Just wondering what people think I should do here... I have had both nVidia and ATI cards in the past and like them both. Right now I have an ATI Radeon 9200 128mb and I need an upgrade..also, what manufactur…

As we say in the UK - This is doing my head in!!I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 which works great - gives me around 20 FPS at KPHX with dense scenery. Just bought a Radeon 9800SE which constantly underperforms the NVidia. Looking at Toms Hardware Website which gives benchmarks and general FPS figures for various settings for FS9 I should be doing a lot better. Done all the usual stuff - used Driver Cleaner 3, changed the Video Driver line in the FS9 cfg file etc. Played around with various settings including the standard of setting all sliders to the left and then incrementally increasing. All I get is stutters and a framerate 6 - 7 fps less than the NVidia TI4600.As…

I notice that there are numerous posts relating to the use of fresnel screens in FS. Almost all seem to refer to suppliers in the US. I did see a mention of RC Simulations in the UK but they don't seem to have one anymore. It's not mentioned on their site anyway. Does anybody know of a UK supplier of cheap lenses?Victor

This has probaly been asked before but here goes anyway.I'm in the market for a new system and it will be an Alienware or XPS system I go for. My questions is will an AMD based system or Intel be best for FS.The reason I ask this is that I have used AMD systems since my PIII 450. My current system was I thought quite good but even now with a fresh install and faster hard drive perforamce is at best OK. The strange part is my brother system which is straight from Dell looks fantastic. My PC is an XP2800+ , 1gb ddr@333 , 2x80gb 7200rpm hard drives , FX5700 VTD256mb 8xAGP g/card. My brother bought a Dell 4600 with Intel 2.8ghz , 512mb ddr@333 , 1x60gb 7200rpm hard drive , fx…

Hi,This morning was going to be a nice vfr flight under some clouds along the coast for an hour (on fs2004 of course!!). However I decided to restart my pc after moving a few files around to give a fresh start for the sim. On booting up however the motherboard bios was acting like it lost it settings and saying CMOS something. Bypassed this and entered Windows and it looked for a new pci device. Bypassed this and then restarted to see if it would happen again. Again CMOS problem so this time I tried to reset my settings. However for the CPU/RAM speed I think I set 133/133 when I think I should have put 100/133 (my mboard supports my Duron 1.3 at 200Mhz Fsb it says).…

Hello everyone. I have around $160 to spend and was wondering what component I should upgrade to improve my framerates. My friend let me borrow his ATI 9800 pro videocard for a couple of days and to be honest with you, I hardly saw any improvements in framerates. I was actually pretty shocked to see that framerates didn't improve as much as I thought it would have. All I saw was an improvement in the visual quality of the graphics (AA/AF), an…

Hi,I really want to upgrade to a new vidcard. I got a new monitor. 16:9 Sony 24". Absolutely great addition to my sim. Problem is with a 2nd TFT running from it the resolution of 1920x1080x32 is really killing my good ole 9800XT.So o.k., an X800XT or GF6800GT should do better at this res, but I really ask myself if it still makes sense to buy another AGP card these days. But for now upgrading the mainboard and prcessor also is out of the question. I have an ASUS A7N8X and an Athlon XP3200+ which am still quite satisfied with. What do you guys think?Alex

How much improvement would one expect to see in performance between the old Athlon XP 3000+ and the Athlon 64 3000+? Would it be worth the upgrade? The new 90mm 939 3000+ can be obtained at a great price and supposedly are very good for overclocking to about 3500+ with standard air cooling. I'd like to hear some people's responses concerning their experience to upgrading to an Athlon 64 from a system similar to mine. I am currently using the Athlon XP 3000+ (333bus) with the following components:1G of 333 SDRAMATI 9800 Pro

HiI am planning my upgrade and just need a little help. Reviewing other posts the AMD Athlon 64 seems like the way to go (based on opinions from this forum). On this side of the planet there's less than $100 between the AMD64-3400 and the AMD64-3500 but the 3500 uses the 939 socket whereas the 3400 uses the 754 socket. So which of the two is the better buy? Is one socket better the the other either in terms of future upgrades or performence?

Or....Is the default ok ?Also what assignments do you use ?
