Hi all,Just recently a problem developed with my FS9 sound where it modulates in intensity from very loud to very quiet in say 2-3 minute intervals. It does not depend on any particular stage of flight nor the view. At one moment it's normal, than all of a sudden it gradually quiets down for several minutes, than again it goes up to high volume.Really bizzare and it never happened to me before.I have a Sound Blaster 5.1 sound card with the current set of drivers from Creative. My sound quality is set to 'best' within FS, and I have the slider in the DXDIAG one notch low of the maximum.I would be grateful for your help with that,Thanks a lot,DomMy sig:ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, rev.…

Hello Friends - FS9 for some reason just won't load on my HP a350n. The splash screen displays, I get some hard drive activity, then it bombs out with no error message. The same thing happens in when I start FS9 in safe mode, too. Everything else on the computer seems to work fine - FS2002 seems to work great and all of my other programs seem to work fine. Can someone offer a general procedure for identifying the source of the problem? Many thanks

I'm currently using a Saitek 3D Rumble Stick and very happy I am with it. My old MS Sidewinder gathers dust in a corner. Hmmm, I thought. I wonder if I can use that one as well. You can never have too many buttons can you and that additional throttle control would surely come in useful. So can it be done? Can I use two (usb) joysticks? Anybody else tried it?

I have a problem with the buildings and basically anything else outside of the VC showing up double like the glasses aren't even on. I found the T&L tip by searching, but this still didn't help or fix the problem. I originally thought maybe I just had the 3D turned up too much for my eyes, but the VC was perfectly crisp, but the outside references were still messed up. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? I have a Nvidia 5950 Ultra and am using the latest det's and stereo drivers from Nvidia (I think it's 61.xx). Thanks in advance.Craig

Hello everyone. It seems like there are some very knowledgeable people on these forums so I thought I would see if anyone has some ideas regarding my problem.I just put together a new system which is as follows. Asus A8V Socket 939 MotherboardAMD Athlon64 3500+Asus X800Pro 256 mb Video1gb OCZ PC3500 RAM1 Maxtor 120gb HD1 WD 80gb HDEnermax 420W PSU, Liteon 8x Dual Layer DVD BurnerThe system is blazingly fast. It 3dMarks at 11000 and plays the latest games like Doom and Far Cry with relative ease. When I load up FS2004, the initial performance is impressive. With dense scenery and 4x AA enabled I am getting Frame Rates in excess of 30. For some strange reason however, …

Hi folks, Been a long time since I posted on avsim! So work/family life has slowed down enough for me to actually think about flying the desk again, but jeez there is sooooooo much that I've missed out on over the past 9 months! I was planning on buidling up a sweet system last year, which actually did happen, minus the CPU. So last week, I finally bought a P4 3.4C to hopefully speed things up a little. On to my question:I am not really planning on overclocking this CPU (well, maybe someday I'll try to get 3.6GHz out of it if I can) but I am planning on watercooling it for a few reasons. One of which is I want this system to be quiet. Second and most importantly …

I'm using a Geforce 6800 ULtra video card. While I was watching a replay of my landing, my 4x FSAA and 8x AF switched off. After the replay still the settings were switched off. I have a profile for FS2004 to set with 4x FSAA and 8x AF. I restarted FS2004 and my profile display settings for my video card worked again. What's caused FSAA and AF to turn off automatically in FS2004 while watching my replay.

Is the contrast ratio the parameter that determines how a black background will look? I have a 2yr old monitor that has a contrast ratio of 350:1. Will the newer ones with a contrast ratio of up to 800:1, display flying at night better (the darkness of night relative to the ground lights and stars?

HELP!Just upgraded to a ASUS K8V SE Motherboard and new AMD64 3200.My system is running slower than the old one with only frame rates of 4-5fps at airports and 10-12 while flying. Can anyone familiar with this setup tell me what setting are needed in the Bios, Memery, or configuration to get it to run properly. What should the memory page size be or how do you unlock the power of AMD64 ??I'm told it should be getting twice the fps'sI've tried everything. What about duel channel? is that's what needed with the AMD64 to get the better performance. If so is the ASUS K8V SE motherboard the wrong board to take advantage of dual channel??System Spec'sASUS K8V SE DELUXE K8T800…

I am presently running the Zone Alarm firewall (Freeware version) and AVG Antivirus. If I install SP2, can all three of these programs run at the same time, or do I need to disable something in SP2 after installation in order to retain ZA and AVG? My assumption is that there are other SP2 features that it would be advantageous to have in addition to just the security features.Any advice? Thanks:RTH

I am thinking about getting some rudder pedals once again after a very long break. I had CH USB pedals but found that they invariably did a left hardover and drove me mad. But I tried Cirrus at the recent AVSIM convention and loved 'em. The question is, do CIRRUS pedals actually work all the time with a regular PC + FS9 + FSUIPC -- or do they need to be "woken up" and recalibrated from time to time, etc? (and do they go out on you ?)Appreciate any info on this and advice, thanks!JS

There was a delay in the latest Omega drivers for ATI cards due to Omega working to better integrate RadLinker into the driver package. While the latest Omega drivers will work with ATI's new CCC, Omega is working to offer a future for those who wish not to install CCC (and the required .NET Framework). Radlinker is now a required install with the Omega drivers, and will do all the tweaking that CCC does (and a bit more... like seperate control settings for D3D and OGL) without using nearly the system resources. Radlinker also includes Radclocker for those who wish to overclock thru registry settings (the best method short of flashing the video card with a special BIOS…

Hi!I'm running MSFS2004 on this system:- Athlon XP2800+- Epox 8RDA3+- 1GB PC3200 (Infineon)- WD Raptor 74GB/SATA & IBM DDYS 36GB/U2W- Leadtek Winfast 4xSound...and here it comes:- ASUS V8170DDR (GF4 MX440 DDR)It runs quite well, but only as long as the weather is fine. Flying through clouds or complex scenery brings the FPS down. Many times I read that faster VGA cards do not always increase the MSFS2004 FPS significantly. What's your opinion? Is it worth buying a new card? I don't want to spend too much money, so it should be a mid-class chipset. And unfortunately it needs to be a GeForce, as I use Trainz Railroad Simulator which insists on GF cards - don't ask why...…

About nine months ago, I purchased a Radeon 9800 Pro 128meg video card thinking that this was the answer to all my problems. After installation, I noticed that occasionally, the aircraft, both add on and default, would start flashing. By that I mean that certain textures in the plane start flashing randomly. It was annoying but no big deal at the time. This also happened in the virtual cockpit.Over time, the flashing seems to get worse, so at the Avsim convention, I ask the Microsoft guy for help and after asking me several questions, he seems to point the trouble at the video card.Upon arrival back home, I had my computer tech remove the Radeon 9800 and reinstall my old N…

There was a post a some time ago which showed how the settings in the various "settings" menus used memory and processing power to help optimize according to system. It seems some sliders directly affect the graphics card and others are affected by RAM or the CPU. I don't understand this very well but have just installed an extra 512mbRAM and want to make the best of it.Does anyone know a link to this post as I can't find it, or can anyone help. Many thanksGerryPentium IV 2.4ghzGeForce4 128Mb1024RDRAMWindows XP Professional SP1Microsoft ForceFeedback Joystick
