I always had no idea how much difference it would make if i bought a card with 256 instead of 128. Would anyone kindly explain what it does and whether it's worth it to buy a 256 instead of 128 for flightsim purposes??thanks alotEien

Hello All:This may be the place to ask this question as I know a lot of smart computer geek folks post here :-) Each time I boot up my puter it goes through its cycle and then the last thing it does is display my C:/windows/system32 folder. Is there any way to stop this from showing each time I boot up?Thank in advance.

Hi AllCan someone explain the difference. I am using standard overclocking which offers a range of 3,5,7 and 10% respectively. Then there is adaptive which offers a greater range. The manual does not really explain the difference. Appreciate any help you guys can offer.RegardsBob Ginn

I am looking to upgrade my Nvidia Geforce 4600 Ti, which all though is super, I am looking to improve the image quality and get rid of those annoying Jaggies and those broken flashing taxi lines. I am quite happy with my Frame rates, which in FS2002 are consistently over 45 FPS. I am concerned because I saw Fs2002 being played a couple of months ago on an Nvida 5950 FX video card, and the jaggies were still there !!Will the Geforce 6800 manage to eradicate them ?Best Wishes and grateful thanks,ChrisAMD 3400 Ti 4600 Vieo card

Does anyone know if the CH Products Pro Yoke & Pro pedals operate as USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 device ?AND if they are indeed made as USB 2.0 units, would they operate okay using a USB 1 hub in a USB 2.0 port ? Would they really need more than 12 mbps ?Since CH doesn't even mention the USB version I figure they must not be 2.0 to start with.Anyone know ? I may have missed this info somewhere, but I can't find it listed. Thanks,

My knowledge in computers is very limited and cannot decide between the two systems which will provide the best performance for the FS2004.I understand that is a debate between INTEL and AMD chip users and I will appreciate any inputs.Kind regards,Alex[1] Area-51

Just wondering. For example, if I had a 30GB hard drive and FS9 takes up 25GB (83%) would that give me "worse" performance than a hard drive of 100Gb (FS9 taking up 25%).Victor

I'm tempted to upgrade my computer. I've had my current setup for over 2 years and finally, some new hardware is coming out that puts my current setup to shame. I was over at Anandtech, drooling over the new 90nm Athlon64's and the latest videocards...Current system specs:AthlonXP 2400+ @ 2.2 GHz512MB RAM (2x256 MB 400 MHz TwinMOS-Winbond)ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB120GB WD160GB MaxtorSB Audigy 2An ancient and bulky ATX case from the mid 90's with new Antec 430W PSU.I currently study at uni and every now and then I go home to visit my parents, a 500+ km trip by train. Taking a big ATX case with me is kind of dificult. Also I only have a tiny dorm room so even here, a small …

Hi guys.,Does Norton AV affect performance in FS9 that much?I run the whole shabbam Norton Firewall, internet security, the lot.Should i disable or disable completely from BOOT-UP?I get around 20FPS landing at LAX with 34% AI, active sky running, and medium-high scenery, but some stuttering when intercepting the localizer and glideslope (ok on final approach)Also thought i would add that i THINK i get better performance flying on-line than off (as somebody else mentioned tonight)., interesting if that is the case.FS9 is a real challenge for a non-techie such as myself, but learning all the time!Thought i might run this by the pros on this forumCheersDan :-beerchug

I am sure this issue has been beaten over and over in past years. But the time has come for me to upgrade. I realized this when I was sitting on the ground at RNO and was only getting 7.0FPS Anyway... I have always used intel based motherboards and processers. I have also always went with SOYO motherboards. I have some money to spend on upgrading my current SOYO Dragon P4 1.7. I am obviously leaning toward another Intel based SOYO, but I am open to other ideas. Basiclly what do you all suggest, and what are you currently using. I have been looking at some of the screen shots in the AVSIM forum and I am getting jealousWHERE SHOULD I SPEND MY MONEY!!!!Larry J.Indio,…

Hello all. I was wondering if you guys could share your opinions on what you consider to be the best or your favorite controller when flying FS2004? I am currently considering purchasing a new HOTAS system from either Thrustmaster, CH Products, or Saitek. I have enjoyed Thrustmaster products in the past (F-22 PRO) with previous versions of MS Flight Simulator. I did find the springs a bit too stiff for casual flights in MS Flight Simulator. Now Thrustmaster has the new Cougar HOTAS. It's a very nice looking piece of equipment. It's also quite expensive. I have heard that there are many hardware issues with the new Cougar, so much that there's an entire website dedicated …

I just got a new ViewSonic P225fB monitor and have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 video card. ViewSonic advertises that this monitor will go to a 99Hz refresh rate with the resolution set to 1600 x 1200. ATI advertises that their Radeon 9800 Pro 256 will allow for 120Hz at 1600 x 1200 resolution. However, when I open up the ATI Control Panel and check for the available refresh rates ("Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" is checked), the only values I have are for 60 thru 85 Hz, and with the "Hide modes..." unchecked, I see up to 200 Hz available max. I'm using the Catalyst 4.7 drivers. I called ViewSonic Tech Support and the fellow there said that the video card is t…

Amd FX55, 2 gb of corsair 3200 pro memory, two sata 76.7 gb drives (10000rpm) by raptor raid 0, ati x800 xt platinum edition. And off course a 24" sony crt flat screen. Monitor alone was 1.3k, but Im sure its well worth it..Hopefully I will now be able to run flight sim without too much problem. If anyone has a similar system please post your fps you get with for example a pmdg 737, ultimate traffic, active sky, with dense scenery like in NY.. THANKS ALOT CANT WAIT

hi - previously i've been able to fix this problem by deleting fs9.cfg, but this time around i'm getting nowhere fast so i hope someone here can help me.Using fs9.1 with Active Sky 4.5, pmdg 737ng, active camera, pss a340 and ati radeon 9700pro, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd.Problem i've got is that although my desktop resolution is set to 1368x768 i cannot get fs9 to display this resolution in the hardware resolution selection box - the highest resolution it displays there is 1024x768! Like I said i've tried to fix it by removing fs9.cfg and restarting but to no avail. i'm using radeon driver version 6.14.10.6483 which is the latest one as far as i know and directx 9c or whatever t…

I have always went with Intel but during a recent past post on this board, I was swayed in the AMD direction. I picked up the ABIT AV8 K8T800 motherboard at a local store, got the AMD 64 3500 Winchester 939 pin processor from newegg, and ordered my 2 sticks of 512 PC3200 from crucial, all of which will be here this week! WOO HOO...Anyway, my question/concern is this... once I replace the motherboard and processor will it be as simple as booting up from my current boot drive? Will I have to reinstall Windows XP? I remember awhile back when I went from a P3 550 to my current P4 1.7 I had to format and reinstall everything. Now granted that was with windows 98SE, and n…

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and 2.6 GHZ pentium 1.25 GHZ memory. Win XP sp1My problem is not good framerates [20-30+] but rather that when I look out the side cockpit window of my PSS Airbus or default jets the landscape moves by in little jumps not smoothly. When I run FS 2004, I terminate all active programs, set my NOrton Internet Security 2005 to Block all communications and then disable the antivrus. When I look at the Task Manager performance graph that graphs cpu utilization I still see a rhythmic spike of up to 10 to 20% every few seconds. I do not know what process is doing that as it shows only system idle running But I wonder if that might be interfering with smooth…

I have a Sony SDM-S73 that I've had for about 8 months now. It's a great monitor but the one thing that bothers me is that when I fly at low altitudes of less than 5000ft I get a lot of flickering of the scenery. Never had it with a CRT. This monitor has a fast response time of 20ms and I get no ghosting, just flickering. I don't think there is anything I can do about it, it has always been like this since I bought it. Using a Radeon 9000 pro. Another thing I don't like about LCDs is flying at night. I don't think LCDs cut it for night flying. I'm actually thinking about going back to a CRT, but a LCD is so much superb in every other aspect for reading etc. I spent $450 f…
