I have been using FS9 sense it it was realsed. But now that I have really got into playing it and doing the whole virtual airline thing. I'm getting the feeling it time to up grade my system. I do fine with the frame rates as long as I dont fly into big citys like if I go to KWER or any airport in the New York area it kills my frame rate it even worse at night when I'm flying around away from the citys with one of the jets I get around 14 to up to 23 FPS. I know that is not very good but it works. When I'm landing ot takeing off from a airport in the big citys at night I get 3 to maybe 8 FPS. I know thats really bad and that 8 FPS is if I turn all my secnery off. Here…

I searched the fora yesterday for any threads related to running FS2004 on a RAM disk, and found only one from several years ago, applicable of course to FS2002, and to systems from that time.Does the fact that none of the performance-hungry users out there have been talking about RAM disks mean that it is not possible to use one to run the simulator? Or if it IS in fact possible, how would one do it?I would be happy to hear any updated information on the topic.Regards,Seth Graebner

I need some advice on some problems I am having with WIN XP the past day or so. 1. User Environment: Data Error (Cyclic Redundany Check) - this appears at the WIN XP Welcome screen along with the message can't load the user profile and will log on as default user. Once XP loads I am able to switch to my profile. 2. When I try to "restore" my wallpaper that has dissappeared due to the above, I get a RunDLL 32 error when I try to set the wallpaper from the Display Properties Window. Anyone able to offer me any help on these.

Hi allI've asked this a couple of times and I haven't heard anything yet, so I will try again.I'm having problems trying to assign commands to the yoke's Throttle controls. I have the USB yoke, the first of three work for my throttle, but I can not program the other two. They worked when I first bought the yoke (only a few months old) and controled the choke along with RPM. Then magically all settings disappeard. I can't seem to assign anything to the two throttle sticks. I go to options/settings/ select joystickaxis and I assign them to different things and none seem to work. I see throttle axis, engine axis up to 4 etc. I can't seem to assing anything to them even thou…

I have WinXP Home with SP2. I have 1024MB of RAM as well. In my taks manager, I show right now with FS9 running and other processes as well going about 334MB of physical RAM available for use with 304MB allocated for system cache. The thing I don't get is why is my page file useage showing at 750MB? I always thought that the PF was for when you ran out of physical RAM? I am probably wrong but would like someone who knows to help me out with a explaination. thanks!

Hi,I have just completely formatted my PC and switched from FS2002 to FS9, and now I am wishing I hadn't.The reason is that FS9 just will not run at all. It runs ok for anywhere between 10 seconds and a few minutes before either- FS Freezes, and then I get the "FS has encountered a problem and needs to close" message, which gives varying .dll files as the cause of the problem- Screen goes black with just cursor visable, and same messages as above- FS just dissapears and I am back to the desktop- the PC just rebootes itself all together !Now I think this is all due to my graphics card. My system is as followsAMD Athlon XP 2800+ / ASUS A7N8X2 / Radeon 9700 Pro / 1024 DDR Ra…

I have an IP address on an XP computer that uses DHCP to obtain a lease from my internet router. Looking at the NIC in DM, the IP address field is grayed out. Is there a command in Run/cmd that will provide the IP name? Or some other way to find it?Thanks, Bruce.

I just got a 19" LCD from Philips (190S I think). As I like to fly rather long flights, 4-6 hours, is it risky to leave the monitor on while in cruise while I am away? Will I experience burn-in?Thanks

Gents, is it possible to generate video blur while running Fs9 to get a more fluid look (ie like in movies). I ask because I know that movies usually run around 25-30 fps, but they look so fluid. In FS, you have to get pretty good frame rates to make it look more fluid because it always looks like a series of pictures coming by really fast. So, I was wondering if it's possible to make FS have video blur by changing video card settings? Maybe this is a far fetched idea, but in theory it could make the flight sim experience much more real by providing more fluidity without having to increase frame rates exponentially. What do the experts think?cheers!

Just curious really - does there come a point at which RAM doesn't or wouldn't get used in FS9 ? I have 1.5GB of 3200DDR - this works great for me, but I'm just interested....would there be any noticeable difference having 3GB etc ?Thanks in advance all,RegardsEddy

Hi.is anyone running any of the new ATI cards, such as the X850 / X850 Platinum.I wondered if they are any good, ie, is it worth the money up-grading from a Hercules 3D Prophet 9800Pro 125mb to one of these.I have heard so many conflicting reports that I am totaly confused now.would I actualy see any significant improvements in FS9 etc,I read that FS9 was only written to be able to handle 125 at the most.you can see from my sig at the bottom what the rest of my system specs are.thanks for any comments.

A friend has a fried ATI 9800 Pro (128 MB)(has just had a re-install of XP after a bad virus problem, and the computer tech is seeing the card boot up to a black screen; this cards also been over-heating badly in the past). What would be a good upgrade if he wants to do that? I assume there are ATI drivers already installed, and I don;t know if an nVidia card would be a problem (I don't think he wants to screw around with deleting drivers, etc.). I think this is an Athlon system, not sure. Thanks, Bruce.

This thing is the best! they have a ingenious way of swapping out the throttles, which have cams that push spring loaded rods in and out. I hope that they can come up with verneer controls as in the C-172. I got the 2 lever jet, and the high performance single settups. the reverse lever works great on the PNDG 737,and the powerlevers have the beta/reverse setup.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/100597.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/100598.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/100599.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/100600.jpg

I would like to upgrade my motherboard and CPU from a KT400 3000+ Athlon XP to a KT800 Pro to a 939 3500+ Athlon 64. I don't want to do a complete reinstall of Windows XP however because I have a lot of stuff and don't wan to spend a week reinstalling it. I just want to put in the motherboard, drop in the CPU, hook up my current HD and go. Would installing the chipset drivers for the new motherboard prior to the upgrade help? So, that when the new motherboard/CPU are installed, it will load the new drivers and start up ok.Thanks,RH

Hey all,I was asked by a great friend of mine a few weeks ago to plan a super-pc for FS2004 for him. I talked to some people and everybody told me to look for an AMD64. So I went to the only store selling AMD64 processors here in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and asked for a budget. The greatest difficulty is that buying Opterons here in Brazil is kinda complicated, they're all imported one by one, there is no stock, so if the configuration doesn't work well with FS2004, it will be (a LOT of) money thrown out the window! The basic specs are these ones:

In the relentless effort to squezze every drop of perf. from my computer I've been looking at my video card settings. I have some questions if anyone is willing to help.In advanced video card settings I'm given the option to use trilinear opt. Is that the same as trilinear filtering in FS9? If so which setting should I use, in the card or FS9? Second, when I change my video card image setting from quality to high quality, my trilinear opt. setting in the card is no longer selectable. Does high quality setting include trilinear opt.? Hopefully I made sense. :-)

On checking my fs9.cfg file I now find two sections for the graphics driver:{DISPLAY.Device.Matrox Parhelia 128MB - English.0}and{DISPLAY.Device.Matrox Parhelia 128MB - .0}I know it's bad news to have two such entries but I cannot find which of these two is the current one and which should be deleted. Can anyone tell me where to check? I've looked in the Display Settings, DXDiag and in MSInfo but without success.boneshttp://fsaviation.nethttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
