Just wanted to pass on my recent experience with my Radion X800 XT PE video card. I decided to turn on "wait for vertical refresh rate" to its max setting to see if image quality was better in FS2K4. What I got instead were frame rates which almost brought my system to its knees. I was getting an average of 30 FPS and higher within FS2K4 and suddenly got frame rates which struggled to get above 20 FPS. Flying my PMDG 737 the frames went below 10. I thought I had a video driver problem and then remembered I had changed the wait for vertical refresh rate setting. Turning it completely off my FPS went back up to frames over 30 FPS. I never realized one setting could d…

I just purchased a KDS 17s monitor and am enjoying it as a desktop system. It does a great job with Flight Simulator as long as I'm flying during the day. When I fly at night, the black colors don't look nearly as black as they were with my Sony es200 CRT.I've read up on contrast ratios and this monitor is 450:1. The instruments look washed out and are hard to read. Is this a case where I should be looking at monitors better than 700:1? Is night flying on them better?I'm not wedded to flying only at night, but like it alot. I fly at 1280 x 1024 at 16 bit color. Would twiddling with the system somewhere yield me better results or should I go looking for a better mon…

Anyone have any thoughts on what the effect of a new AMD FX-55 with dual 6800GT video card systems would be on FS? Or is it still so processor locked that having the dual video card setup won't really help much?TIA.P

Hey all... here's my specsAthlon XP 2800 Barton 333FSBA7N8X-E Deluxe MotherboardCorsair XMS 512MB DDR400 (166MHz Single Channel)Powercolor Radeon 9600XT 128MB80GB Hard Drive (Not sure what brand it is... I've had it for quite a while... its been in 2 computers at least)CD-RW, Floppy... etc etcThe main things that I am looking at are my memory, my video card, and my hard drive. My question is basically what would you guys upgrade first? Also, I have an issue with random restarts... right in the middle of playing a game, my computer will just restart out of nowhere. I definitely think it is heat related... do you think I should upgrade the cpu fan along with some thermal pas…

hi all,i installed the X800 XT PE last night. there's no visual artifacts with the card within Windows and FS9. however, in Device Manager there's 2 "unknown devices" listed. "right-click" on them and select "properties" and on the "general" tab there is 3 fields listed on that tab with the following info;Device type: other devicesManufacturer: unknownLocation: on Radeon X800 XT PEDevice status:this device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)to reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.Understood - now here comes the ''hair pulling part"!again, in Device Manager under "Display adapters"devices shown here are;Radeon X800 XT Platinum EditionRadeon X…

Did a search, but didn't get a hit on this subject within the CH usb yoke posts here and in FS9 general topics...I can get the trim wheel (joy axis) to program without a problem but I can't seem to get enough action from it. WinXP calibration gives you a "test" for it, but not a "calibration" for it. FS9 does nothing for it either (as far as I can tell) Shame to waste a good feature and then also waste two other buttons to do the job.Anyone have the answer ?Why couldn't CH make this trim wheel just a bit larger so you could grasp it between you thumb and index finger to turn it ?? Better believe it will be larger after the warranty period expires :-) also the stop…

Hi all,I've been having this problem for a while now but I just now am getting tired of it. It is much more noticable now that I have decreased the resolution I fly in from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024 to increase performance when running Active Sky.Anywho, here is my problem. I'm getting jaggy lines when there are large color differences in liveries along a straight line. Alaska, AA, Continental, etc all show this problem as well as some liveries on other aircraft I have. I have AA set to 4x and AF set to 8x. However changing these settings doesn't make much of a difference. The edges of the aircraft are smooth, just the horizontal lines on the liveries are not.The attac…

I will soon be building my first AMD system after many years of using Intel-based systems. I built the last 4-5 Intel systems myself, and the heatsink/fan attachment on the last one was almost a no brainer. Any advice on attaching the HSF to an Athlon64 S939 system? Frankly, I don't even know what to expect yet, though I will be taking my time and thinking carefully about what I'm doing. I ordered the retail version of the CPU (3500+), and I was just going to use the included HSF (I have no desire to mess with overclocking, so I'm hoping it will be able to handle the heat) but I was planning to use some Arctic Silver 3 that I bought for my last system and ended up not…

Hi,I assume that having a bloated registry full of rubbish has a detrimental effect on FS performance, aswell as general performance.Which tools do people think are "safe" to do the job of cleaning and otimising such an essential part of the OS.Dan.

I have had enough of my chug chug computer which is stuffed full of rubbish programmes I cant get rid of like Nortons and a whole multitude of junk.I have also had Trojan horses which seem to reappear even after they have been removed and I now have AVAST which sticks them in a virus chest but this seems to happen on every reboot!I am not happy with MSFS which sometimes is smooth and then back to chug chug.So I am going to wipe the whole thing clean and reinstall windows XP.Is there a utility to save your E mails and other important bits or should I just copy the whole lot over to my D drive and wipe that clean when I have taken back what I want?I am running an ATI Radeon…

Hello all ye more knowledgable than I,In looking for performance boost (I get a pretty good 20fps all maxed at dense airports, but...) I used ltcycfg.exe to examine the current latency of my new ATI X700pro card - it says latency is 0, as opposed to the typical bus-hogging 255 - should I increase it or is 0 ok for pci express?regards,Mark

just upgraded my box for the first time in years....replaced my aging radeon vivo 64ddr with a radeon 9000pro 256mbddr.great upgrade. even thou my old processer is slow compared to the latest out, xp1700+, my system is really performing nicely. Great to enjoy new features in display menu, higher resolution. Mip quality used to be the backbreaker of my frames, able now to expand it from 4 to 8 before it begins to drag. now can have antialiasing checked, water effects...so much better now.with the newer pcexpress cards out, the price has really come down on these agp cards...got this for only $177.Cheers,Bob Bernstein

Right now, I have a good 400 hundred watt power supply. I forgot the brand name but it is an AMD approved one. I also currently use it in a Athlon XP system. I am thinking about upgrading to an FX 55 with a new motherboard. Will a 400 watt power supply be enough to run both with? Any other recommendations with power supplies and larger Athlon CPUs will be helpful. I might wait until the 90mm versions are released early in 2005. Do the 90mm require less power from a power supply? How does all of that work?I am tired of the poor frames and I want frame per second to spare!! Thanks in advance.RH

Hi all,And thanks for taking an interest to my problem ... :DThere it is :I recently bought a graphic card Leadtek Winfast A360 TDH (GeForce FX5700), and I have some problems with the antialiasing.I downloaded a lot of Nvidia drivers, but even if I set the Antialias to 2x, 4x, 8, or 8xs, the AA doesn't work in FS.That makes that the image quality is really poor, and some textures blink !I also tried the drivers from Leadtek directly, but no really improvement :'(The image quality was better with my former TI4400 !Could you hlep me please, I can't stand this situation anymore !!!Thank you,
