I'm trying to get my father-in-law started on MSFS but only on a laptop since he lives on a boat and has no room for a desktop.I loaded COF onto an older laptop of mine which is a PIII with 256 RAM and only 32 megs on the video card. When I booted up COF the panel looked fine but I was getting all sorts of flashing geometric shapes on the outside view.Basic question is can either COF or 2K2 be made to run on a laptop and what would the minimum specs be on the cpu and video adaptor?THANKS!Jim

I installed this card yesterday; but when I loaded Fs9 and began to change views using the 'S' key my LCD screen changed to a myriad of coloured lines, see the attached .jpg. Has anyone else with an ATI Card see anything similar, and cured it? :) I have installed the latest Drivers without making any difference. Effectively I am 'grounded' until I can find a cure.Any help would be appreciated.Ken,Somserset, England

I know this sounds like a Ph.D. dissertation topic, but bear with me. I'd like to hear some of your opinions on this topic since there is really nothing out there or no sites dedicated to computer hardware and FS2004 performance. If you have a Athlon-based system that is built around a 333 bus (such as the KT400) and you switch out a 2250mhz Athlon XP with a Thoroughbred core and an L2 cache of 256mb to a 2250mhz Barton core of 512mb, where does the performance of FS2004 lie on a continum from business software (which gain the most from L2 cache) to 3D rendering software (which gain almost nothing from L2 cache)? Also, what are the benefits and disadvantages of overclock…

Hi,I hope someone has an idea where I should go from here. When landing, and this goes for any aircraft in FS2004, as I slow down I lose control. The plane starts to pull to the left or right and when I try to correct this I lose more control and spin out.I've uninstalled and reinstalled CH Control Panel following their instructions with no results. I reset the defaults in FSUIPC. I don't use FSUIPC for any of my joystick controls, but tried that for lack of any other ideas.I also deleted the FS9.cfg and let FS rebuild the cfg file, but no luck there either. So as i said. I have no idea what to try next. The pedals work fine when taxing. So I don't think there is anything w…

Hey guys,I'm running an AthlonXP 2400, 512 mb PC2100, Abit NF7 (nForce 2 chipset). I'm thinking about upgrading to 1 gig dual channel PC3200 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-218-062&depa=1). I'd like to know if the 400 MHz PC3200 memory is compatible with my old AthlonXP 2400 running at 266 MHz FSB? I don't know if those numbers need to be equal. Also, what kind of performance boost can I expect in FS2004? Thanks.Carl

I want to set up two monitors on one computer, on one graphics card. I get a bit of a FPS hit though when I do it this way.I was wondering if it would be better buying a second cheap graphics card to plug the second monitor into to view other instrument panels (FMC, overhead etc. - no external views).Would there be any significant problems in having two graphics cards in one system with two monitors. The setup I would like is fast AGP card for primary monitor (main panel and view), and cheap PCI card for secondary monitor (for other panel views). Thanks for any help-Phil

I now have an almost six year old Belinea 17" monitor. I wonder if it makes any sense and is it worth the money to get a new 19" CRT monitor?

Howdy, Greg, with great interest have we - the Cougar-community - noticed your continued activities on several BBs - except Cougar World [http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=8] - over the past months. With great interest have we noticed that you didn't and still don't have ANY time to respond to the concerns mentioned in your own thread [http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=68604] on Cougar World, you didn't and still don't find ANY time to reply to the inumerable concerned e-mails asking for an update or a refund of the money already paid. But somehow you did and still DO find the time to post on various (plural, mind!) OTHER boards, and …

I've seen very few comparisons between the Intel P4 (Desktop version) and the Pentium M (with 2MB Cache) as far as gaming performance. If someone was to buy a gaming notebook today and was given the option of a P4 3.6GHz HT chip versus a P-M 2GHz chip (same Video Card, RAM, HDD etc...), which do you think would be better suited for FS9?Many seem to agree that FS9 is mainly processor intensive, so which combination is better? The higher clock speed/lower Cache/higher FSB (P4 HT) or the lower clock speed/higher Cache/lower FSB (Pentium M)?Thanks for the input in advance.

I recently purchased microsoft flight sim 2004. I was quite struck that after installing it, it would only perform software rendering and would not detect my Geforce 4 Ti4200 64Meg. As i browsed the config file i only saw older named video cards listed, like TNT and Vodoo. Geforce 2 was the latest vid card i could see on there. I've been browsing forums for 4 days now and have not come to an answer to my problem. I just don't understand how it could not detect my card. I can run Doom3 and Half life 2 but not MS Flight :/Please if anyone could offer me some advice or a good link it would be much appreciated, i feel like i've been searching for ever.My specs:G4Ti4200 64MEGA…

I've got an ancient MadCatz Steering wheel/pedal combo for the PSX. The Pedals plug into the steering wheel via a COM port. The steering wheel then plugged into the playstation controller port, so no dice with the wheel for any reason. However, it occured to me that if I could wangle getting the pedals to work, then I'd have some, effectively free, rudder pedals, although obviously not of CH quality. I'm curious if anyone knows how I can hack these around to get them to work through a COM port on my computer.

I am putting a 2nd hard drive in my computer and was wondering if it makes a difference which hard drive I run FS9 on? My original idea was to move all flight sim related programs and data including FS9 to the 2nd hard drive which would be a slave of the original hard drive. But now I

While I am struggling with my own financial demons about upgrading my PC altogether, I may as well throw in a question about monitors.I've believed for years that CRTs are the be-all and end-all and no LCD can touch a good CRT. Truth is I am fed up with 75 lb monsters on my desks (I have half a dozen of them at home by now) and I am seriously ready to consider an LCD that weighs 18 lbs. I didn't think I'd be ready to think like this, but I am. (And my back is killing me from those CRTs!)I already have a DELL Ultrasharp 19" and it's nice, but not amazing. A good workhorse. I use it for instruments, radios, FSNav maps, etc. But I want a great LCD monitor for actually …

Hallo everyone!I am having a major problem in my new computer's FS9 grahpics...!I bought the new tower for about 1000 Euros about 2 months ago and I am still not using it to fly!I feel that my money went for nothing and that's the worst...I've done a lot of search in the AVSIM forum and I found an older post describing the same symptoms as minesbut unfortunately the advice given by other fellow flightsimmers couldn't help for me(this person had an FX5900 VGA card)! Here is my system configuration:Processor:Intel P4 3.0GHz FSB800, 1MB CacheMotherboard:Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G Hyper threadingRAM: 2x 512MB Kingston DDR (1024MB)VGA card:Leadtek WinFast nVIDIA GeForce 6800 128MBHa…

Does any one have real-world test results for upgrading the processor vs upgrading the video card as it applies to FS2004 performance?I'm currently running a P4 3.0 with HT (512K L2 cache), 1GB DDR RAM, and a GeForce 256MB FX5950 Ultra on an Intel 875 chipset board.I am considering upgrading to a P4 3.4 HT (1MB L2 cache) and one of the new GeForce 6800 256MB Ultra cards.Budgetary constraints means I can only do these upgrades one at a time.Which one will give the best boost while I'm saving $$ for the next? Thanks,Chris
