Hi,I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with an NVIDIA GF7800 GTX video card, 2 GB of RAM and 2 x 250 GB drives. I also have a 19" and a 17" LCD monitor. I have connected the secondary monitor (17") in dual view using the NVidia control panel. When I start FS9 the preview window on the create a flight screen is black, no aircraft image is displayed. If I disable the secondary monitor and restart FS then the image is displayed, the mouse cursor disappears when I move it over this window though.Any ideas of what I have done wrong?RegardsScott.

If your current GPU is a DX10 card and you are running Vista, how many more frame do you think you will be getting on FSX?This is what I think. According to the DX10 spec. The protocol that governs sending data from the host to the card is 6 times faster. That sounds alot, but the protocol part is a very small amount of data comparing all the stuff needed to be send to the card. I guess improvement would be marginal given the same GPU. The reason for the question is that I need a new system to run FSX. Every one knows that even DX10 cards are just around the corner. However, until most of the initial bugs in Vista are cleaned out, I am not going to switch, and I guess tha…

Nothing at all to do with FSX :)I have recently purchased a Samsung 21" wide screen LCD, and run it at it's native 1680*1050. My older monitor, a Sony 4:3 (non-wide) monitor is still good, so I decided to attempt to stretch my desktop across both monitor using nView. Of course, the wide-screen gets now a feed of lower resolution video, I assume the rule here is that lowest res monitor sets up the resolution for all monitors. (I've previously used two 4:3 monitors in extended desktop and loved the ability to be able to use one for simming and one for e-mail, etc.).Also tried feeding the same image to both LCD's, and while that appeared to work much better, I did note th…

I've been out of the hardware loop for a few years now, so I'd appreciate patience. And speak slowly, please.I'm presently running a P4 2.8 GHz w/HT and 800 MHz FSB. I could spend several hundred bucks on a new Core 2 +MoBo @ 2.4 GHz with 1066 MHz FSB. I know these chips are good for multitasking, but is there something about these that makes them faster? Is the 2.4 GHz faster than the 2.8 GHz P4? It would be cheaper than a 3.8 GHz single core. Thanks,Earl

Today I did two upgrades to my middle of the road rig. The results were worth it. FSX is much smoother. FRAPS used to collect data. The rig before the upgrade:P4 3.2, Asus P4P800 Deluxe, 1g DDR 400 dual channel, BFG 6600GT OC 128mb, two 19" TFT monitors spanned at 2560x1024.The test scenario:KSEA, 34R, B737, VC. Take off, climb to 1000, cruise for five miles. The settings:As determined on the original rig by FSX when first run. Pretty much medium high (but really too high.) The autogen tweaks have been applied (the Tree tweak, and the CFG tweak.) Further adjustments of the sliders are needed for a usable flight experience. However, I decided to use these settings as that is…

OK... I originally was set on Two Raptors 150G X 2 @10,000 RPM = $500Then, I was thinking... Maybe install 250G X 2 @7200 RPM = $160 and then later when I do the DX10 upgrade, add the Raptors as well. What would be the performance difference between the 10K vs 7.2K RPM? Is it worth the upgrade and can I have two sets of RAID 0 if I decide to add the RAPTOR pair later on?Manny

Hi, There!I'm thinking of expanding my view since 1 monitor is not that fun any more. I want to have a better control over my flight. Today, I'm using a Dell 2405 screen(24" TFT) as my primary display and I'm thinking of buying 2 more monitors. At the beginning I dont want to use more than 1 computer(..I may do that in the future) so the best way(as I see it) is to use a matrox TripleHead2Go.Now to my qestion what size should the other two monitors be?Should I go with(together with a TrackIR 4 Pro): 1) Buy Two 2407 - 24" -> 3x24" - Is there anyone who has this configuration today, if, what do u think of it? 2) Buy Two ViewSonic VP2030B - 20" -> 2405 in the m…

The 77.77 drivers have served me well for a year in Fs9, but with my FSX in the post I thought I'd better follow the often-offered advice to upgrade to the latest, so installed 91.47. Result: nightmare. Whenever I take any action - change scene, time, weather, aircraft, etc - I get parallel bars flashing across the screen, like a duff TV set. Scenery building has gone to pot: slow, errartic, long pauses. From the air an airfield will often show as a white patch and I have to hit scenery refresh. I'm getting jerks and stutters and hesitations I've never experienced before. My instinct is to revert to 77.77, but I wonder - has anyone else had problems with 91.47, and if so …

A few days ago my HD died. I had had a few problems the previous days and after testing it with some software, all of them agreed that I had to backup as the HD was doomed. Finally on Friday it gave up. I tried it with another mobo and nothing, so that was it.The funny part is that at about the same time my main mobo started acting funny. It wouldn't load the BIOS. I thought it was related to the HD, so I just left it there until I bought a new HD.Yesterday I got a 160Gb Sata Samsung and installed everything. Bios still wouldn't load and made long continuos beeps without end. Reading in different forums I found it could be the VC (which is 2 months old) or the RAM, or the…

I have an A8N32-SLI motherboard running a dual 4500+ CPU, with two 1GB matched sticks of Corsair TwinX2048-3500LL memory that came with the motherboard. My understanding is that with the dual core I effectively only have 1BG for each core, and if only 1 core is active for FSX, then I'm really only using 1GB.With some early reports that having more than 1GB makes a noticeable difference with FSX performance, I'm looking at my on-line vendor for another pair of the same memory, but that part # isn't active any more. I can get (from their Corsair stock) such as :CORSAIR TWINX2048-3200 2GB KIT (1GB x 2) MATCHED PAIR 400MHZ 3-3-3-8 184-PIN DDR DIMM W/HEAT SPREADER (*Limit 2 …

Hello everyone!I'd like to buy myself a 19 inch LCD monitor. Now, lets be really honest, I don't need one but am buying it purely to enjoy FS more. I've got a 15 inch, 5 year old Samsung SyncMaster 550s which works fine. I just want a bigger screen. So, is there anything specific I should be looking for in an LCD monitor if it's to be used for FS? The reason I ask is that today I saw 2 Samsung 19 inchers, one twice the price of the other. Obviously, I'd prefer the cheaper one.Any advice much appreciated!Gavin

On my 3.2 pIv, gforce 7600gs 512meg, I added another 2 gigs of on board memory bring the total to 3 megs.Everything runs noticibly better-the one that puzzles me is the fps didn't really change much-(shows about the same)-but flight is even smoother than it was and I am now running with autogen maxed with good results for almost all situations. Maybe a cheap upgrade for some...I am happy now and see no need to go further in improving my system.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

I know that FSX doesn't take full advantage of dual core technology. However, I was wondering if the following were possible. All system services (except FSX) to one processor core and FSX only to the other core. Is such a thing possible and would it make any difference to the running of FSX?

With the improvements in FSX multiplayer, I am interested in trying multiplayer. I don't currently have a headset or mic. What recommendations do you folks have for a reasonably priced headset? If I am going to use FSX's improved surround sound capabilities, am I missing some of that experience by wearing a headset?I am looking to use the same gear for other mutliplayer games like Battlefield 2 and possibly for some internet calling. Thanks!Tony

My spec was:Athlon XP 3200+1024 RAM128mb Geforce FX5900XTI picked up a BFG 512MB Geforce FX7600 for a hundred quid. Boy what a difference it has made. Previously i was receiving loads of blurries and the water looked horrible. I had to reduce my anti-aliasing/anistopic filtering and screen resolution to get decent frame rates. Not only that, the scenery looked a little ugly and the trees/autogen didnt look very good. With the new card i cranked up the res to 1280 x 1024 and put anti-aliasing and anistopic filtering to 4x and the sim looks absolutely beautiful. No noticable drop in performance. No blurries and the scenery is very sharp and clean. With the FSX demo i am get…

My Track IR 4 Pro does work but a couple of weird things happen and I need help (I can never get through to the NaturalPoint website to even see if they have a forum -- it just processes forever):If I am in the left seat and move my head (along the X axis) across the center line of the cockpit (on the monitor, that is), all the views suddenly get turned upside down or backwards and the whole view is totally destabilized. I have to re-center the device. If I am in the left seat and move my head left more than an inch or two, a similar thing happens.I've checked the sensors and observe that in the tracking screen, one of the three greens turns red when I move thus. This in…

My RMA HD has come and I wanted to setup RAID 0 on my PC ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Mother board. The motherboard has the Intel ICH7R southbride and the MB Disk that came with it says it has the ICH7R RAID 32 bit RAID Driver. However, when I make a disk from that CD ROM and insert it, its displaying ICH8R and not ICH7R.ASUS has the wrong driver on their CD ROM.Where can I get the RAID driver from?I went to ASUShttp://support.asus.com/download/download....SLanguage=en-usAnd all I see are their Micron RAID Driver. My primary RAID uses the Intel ICH7R RAID Driver.Any ideas?Manny

Has anyone tried Crossover, Parallels or a similar program to run MSFS on the Intel Mac? Did it work? Was there a significant performance hit running FS that way compared to bootcamp?I have a shiny new 20" C2D iMac and will purchase FS next week. Thanks.
