MS recently announced that Vista will only be able to be transfered onto a new machine only once.http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/2100-...tml?tag=nl.e019Does this apply to:1. Wiping a drive to clean it and reinstalling the OS?2. Upgrading your harddrive and having to reinstall the OS?Will I be able to reinstall it in those cases or will I have to buy a new copy each time?

Hi All,I need advice, as we all know of the performance issues with FSX I was wondering if any member has / is using two graphics cards in SLI mode??.My system is 3.8Ghz P4, 4 GIG DDR2 ram, Nvidia geforce 7900GT card all running under XP.Currently i get about 15-20 FPS with default aircraft, however, when we all start using add ons like LDS 767 etc etc this frame rate will drop!!. What would be the "gain" in FPS with 2 cards??...is anybody using this type of configuration & did / does it make a difference???.Nvidia say running x2 of rhe same GPU's increase performance, asking someone who is actually using this config for FSX I think is better.Any advice welcome.Cheers…

Hi guys, running a P4 540J with 2 GB of PC3200 and an ATI 256 MB X850XT.Looking at possibly upgrading my CPU to a P4 640. The only real difference is an increase of L2 cache from 1 MB to 2 MB. Would I see any benefits from this upgrade ?Thanks

Hi all,FSX has brought on the need, actually desire, for pedals that I've put off for years. I have CH HOTAS so I am familiar with the quality but have seen the Saitek pedals advertised and they look interesting.Has anyone had any stick time with the new Saitek pedals? They are almost twice as much as the CH so I'm interested to hear if they are worth it.Thanks

Ok, I know people are posting info about this in other threads, but I was unable to find info specific to my system. In advanced, I appreciate everyones patience in answering similiar questions.I would like build a new Core 2 system in about 6 months or so when the typical FSX tips/tweaks are worked out and hardware prices are lower. In the meantime, will upgrading my CPU and/or Video give me a significant improvement in FS9 and allow me to use with FSX a little bit. What are the best AGP video cards now?I have FS9 working w/many add-ons (Dreamfleet 727/PMDG stuff/etc.) and I am happy, but I would like some more speed in FS9 until the add ons and hardware catch up with…

Hi,Just upgraded my system from 1 Gig to 2 Gigs. Before the upgrade I didn't have any significant problems with FS2002, FS9, or FSX. After the upgrade, however, now neither FS9 or FSX will load. They start to then stop while loading scenery and the puter locks up so tight I have to just kill power to it.Anybody have an idea why increasing my system RAM would cause this?My system is Athlon 64, 3000; Radeon 9800 Pro ATI card. Thanks for any help.Jim

I have a 4 year old creative sb Audigo card. My problem is that I can't upgrade the drivers to the latest. Instead I'm stuck with drivers from 2001. Reason for this is that the driver installation program always crashes at a random point during installation. Often it renders my system impossible to reboot. I must rebbot in safe mode and can see that the old driver installation is destroyed (report by creative diagnostic). I have been in contact with creative support and tried all possible suggestions like switching cardplace turning off backgroundtask. At one point I tried with a freshly installed Windows without success,The creativesupport suggests I buy a new soundcard.…

Hi all,I realize these hardware issues have been beaten to death, so I'll keep it short and specific:Current system:P4 D 3.2GHz1GB RAMRadeon 9800 Pro card w/ 128MBOf course, FSX performance is lackluster to say the least. Once I turn on the autogen, the frame rate dives.Would upgrading to 2GB of RAM and either a Radeon X1600Pro (512MB) or a GeForce 7800GS (256MB) give me significant improvements? Does spending the extra $$ on the 7800GS make sense? My goal is to be able to enable anisotropic filtering and turn autogen up to dense while getting framerates of 15-20 around "normal" scenery areas (I don't fly to many big airports). I like the mesh at 38m... I can pass on tr…

Can any one tell me the proper settings for a Radeon X1600 512 meg. AGP card? In the Catalyast control panel should I let the application decide or set the sliders for best appearence and frame rate? Also why does the shirt+enter and shift+ backspace function not work in FSX, the key board commands say they do?KenDell XPSWindows XP800 FSB2.8 Pent IV processor2 gigs memoryRadeon X1600 AGP 512 memoryAudigy II SB80 gig hard drive

I'm having a hard time setting the sensitivity on my Ch Flight Sim Yoke. I've tried with and without FSUIPC 4 but can't tell any change no matter how I set things. All works fine in FS9.Anybody have a quick and dirty way of setting it all up so that it isn't so hard to fly? Right now all the controls are way to sensitive.Jim

I have a PC with an ATi Radeon X1900XT. This video card has 2 DVI ports and I have 2 17" panels attached to these ports. I would like to join these two panels together and create one big screen so I can play Flight Sim X over it. Is it possible to do this? When I load flight sim, one screen goes blank and the left side has the cockpit view. I want both to have the view and the cockpit all in one. is this possible or will the cockpit become distorted? I like to use the 2D view and not the virtual cockpit. Does Microsoft even have support for this? Thanks,Jeff

Like many of you, FSX runs bad on my pc with low settings. I have an amd 64 3200, 2gig ram and a 6800GT(256mb).My question is, what hardware upgrade would help alot in my quest to run FSX in medium detail?I'm planning to upgrade my cpu to an amd 4600X2 dual core. Would that help my fps, or would it just be a waiste of money? The rest of my configuration would remain the same.Is cpu more important then a gfx card (for FSX)?

Last Monday, I bought an X1900GTO with ratings published as:Core Speed of: 575 MHzMemory Speed of: 600 MHz.This card was supposed to replace my X800XT which has:Core Speed of: 500 MHzMemory Speed of: 500 MHz.My X800XT indeed is running with those specs.I installed my brand new X1900GTO card in good faith that it will be a part that is running at 575/600 MHz.When installing it, I could not understand why it gave no better FPS performance then my X800XT part?!?!? Here's why...and it isn't a nice picture....ATI is shipping out all their 580 chips that have failed their full specification test no **matter what their speed**. On my part where again, I should have had a card …

Here is what it says onpage9 on display Setting.Contrary to what you might think, this is true no matter how powerfulyour computer is. FLIGHT SIMULATOR X is designed to perform on highpowerered hardware that is not yet available to the general public,so even three for four years down the road, FLIGHT SIMULATOR X canstill challenge even the most robust hardware while providing a stunning simulation. So if you have a fast PC,don't fall into thetrap on maxing out all of sliders immediately, because you are no doubt going to bring your machine to its kness!!you can fine this on page 9 of PRIMA,the Official guide, MicrosftFLIGHT SIMULATOR BOOK, 14.95 AT Best Buy this week only.…

I have an nvidia FX5600 video card with 256KB of video memory. My computer is a Pentium 4 3.2GHz CPU with 1 GB of RAM. Most of last year I spent using a relatively mature nvidia driver version 56.34 and that worked relatively well. The only complaint I had was that every once in awhile, my video card, I think, overheated and I got twinkling video artifacts sprinkled in the scene. To help with this I ran with one side of the computer case removed and for the most part the problem was tolerable, i,e, it didn't happen that often. A couple of weeks ago, however, I got greedy and decided to upgrade to a newer driver to see if it would be more efficient and maybe help the …

Beyond doing a complete overkill... what are the "bare-minimum" system specs recquired for FSX to run smoothly (50+ FPS) at maximum graphical settings, I plan on building my new PC to those specs.I know a lot of guys are going to say 4 ghz this... 1 gb that... if thats the BARE minimum I'll take it, but I want to primarily hear some feedback about current systems that are achieving those rates.

Hello fellow simmers ! :)I have a question regading those two graphic cards in FS X. I know their performance in other games and I know that the XT model is better than the 1950 Pro, but I heard in these forums that 512 video memory could be very useful in FS X ? So what do you think ?I have to choose between these two and think of getting the XT right now...By the way, I also heard there was a bug with ATI cards in the VC, gauges wouldn't be as smooth as in Nvidia cards, in FS 9. Is it still true with these "high-end" cards ?Thanks a lot :)Deniz

I'm interested to understand if anyone has experienced my problem with fsx. With a pc (p4 3.0, 1g ram, 256m video card - 3 years old))that worked quite well with fs9 when i installed fsx I had these problems:Very long time of loading the program (about 3 min)Very low and variable frame rate (from 30 to 0.5)Continuos lacking of textures during changing vews. Continuos blocking of screen images. After some experiments with settings trying to understand the probem I realize some smoke smell from pc case, temperature of case increasing and some flickering and locks on the video like an incipient problem on the monitor. After that the pc shutted down itself wihtout any further me…

My rig:AthlonXP 2500+ @ 2800+ (200*10);1GB (2*512MB Dual Channel) DDR400;Radeon 9800Pro 128MB;My post is aimed at people who tried FSX before and after upgrading from 1GB to 2GB. I'm wondering what kind of improvements I can expect. I know it will not improve FPS, I'm mainly interested in improvements in smoothness, texture swapping, loading times, etc.Thank you in advance!Marco

Dear all, After long discussions with a computer supplier in the neighbourhood I gradually come to the conclusion that updating my current system (dell dimension 8200 1Gb Ram with nVidia Gforce ti4600 video) is not too good an idea for now. I intended to wait until next year for a new rig but Fsx (and my personal desire to have it running fast today) are pushing me towards different ideas.I know that existing technology is not specifically designed for Vista and DirectX10, but what is currently the ideal specs for a - for Fsx specific rig - which gives nice fps consistently - and on top of that, where hardware can easily be updated for future proper and direct 10 and vis…
