Hi there,I've been trying in vain to coax FSX into user 2.0 shader water on my laptop in in FSX. But all I get is pixel shader 1.x water.Intel's spec says this onboard GPU (used in many laptops) can do Pixel Shader 2.0 and in fact Vista does get the nice Aero interface on this chipset.I've entered the Device ID of the chip in display.cfg and tried the following, but FSX ignores my wish for Shader 2.0 - duh.;----------------------------------------------------------------------; That's the Intel Windows Vista Driver, current one is 7.14.10.1329;----------------------------------------------------------------------[ igdumd32.dll ]Disable=1[ igdumd32.dll.1 ]MinDriverRev=7.14…

Hi!I got the new throttle quadrant from Saitek and I really like it. I have a little problem though. I can't calibrate the X and Y axis. The Z axis is fine, runs smoothly from 0 to 100 % in FSX (and IL-2), but the other two axis starts at 50 % and goes up to 100 % very fast on the last centimeter of travel. The deadzones are exactly the same for all axis and experimenting with different settings does not solve the problem (unless I'm doing something wrong). On the test page, the red bars move smoothly for all three axis from 0 to 100 %, but in-game only the Z-axis does this. So the question is, how on earth do I calibrate??? There is no such button on the properties-page …

BeHardware did a nice CPU comparison. The results are with the RTM version, but even so he noted a 7% increase in performance with two or more cores. It scales very well with clock speed making it clear an overclocked Core 2 Duo is the way to go. A 3.5GHz C2D would probably run at 26fps on this chart. http://www.behardware.com/articles/657-6/a...on-64-6000.htmlhttp://www.behardware.com/articles/642-8/i...-quad-core.htmlhttp://sio.midco.net/FTP4/chart.gif

Looks like good value. Benchamrks post it in between the GTS and the GTX but for an amazing price of $250 for the 512MB version.Single slot and runs cooler too!I shall be picking one up I think......Glenn

I've had the sticky elevator problem with my CH yoke for some time now. The problem is the yoke's shaft sticking when I try to make small adjustments near the centre of the shaft's travel. It can be very annoying, especially when flying finals and you need to make small pitch adjustments.First of all I tried WD40. I'm not sure what this is called in other parts of the world, but it's a silicon free lubricant that is available in spray cans. I applied a fairly liberal dose of WD40 to the shaft of my CH yoke and it seemed to make the problem worse...I cleaned off the WD40 and tried graphite powder. I used a 2B pencil rubbed down on a piece of wet and dry paper, and then app…

Look out for WiiFly! (should appear soon in the FSX Utilities seciton). This uses the Wiimote and optionally the Nunchuk secondary controller. You can control the camera with one hand and the aircraft with the other hand just by tilting the controller. I use the built in acceleration sensors to determine the tilt. You will need Bluetooth hardware in your PC (most laptops have it nowadays) and a working Bluetooth stack. The Wiimote and Nunchuk provide 6 analog axes and up to 20 buttons can be mapped (by using the B trigger as a "shift" key). The app also works without the Nunchuk attached. For prerequisites and installation instructions please see the included README.txt fileT…

Hello all. Been A LONG time since I posted, but since it will soon be getting dark earlier and earlier, I won't be "real-world" flying much though the winter. So, thought I'd update the ol' PC and get back into simulated flying. I've been running FS9 on this hardware for about 3 years.P4 2.8ghz FSB8001 gig Crucial DDR3200 ramGeForce 6600GT 128 meg cardAsus P4P800 moboIt has run FS9 quite nicely and I'm pleased. I do have some room for some upgrades though and the way FSX runs on this setup, I think I should amp it up a little bit.I was thinking of heading up to a 3.2 ghz CPU and adding another gig of ram. What I don't know about is new vid cards. Are there going to …

Hello gents!Just installed xp/vista dual-boot and have a question. If I install a program like FS9 on XP, would I be able to play it on Vista as well? I suppose if I installed a DX10 app only on Vista, it wouldn't run on XP...or would it? It's just that I'm gonna have a bunch of games on XP PRO, but I'd also like to try them on Vista. Is this possible or will I have to install them twice for each OS?Thanks for the help!Eric

Flight Simulator X won't run on new computer.Windows Vista UltimateCore2 Extreme QX6700 F-OC' Quad Core, 4GB Corsair Dominator OC' 1066MHz, Dual 768MB Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX, Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Extreme, 2 Samsung 21"ers and a 24" Wide.It ran fine on the old Pentium 4, Pentium D, and Quad core Q6600, Dual NVIDIA 8600 GTS running Windows XP, but won't run at all on a Vista.I installed KB#933590 (for Vista and multiple monitors) "at least the software will start now".This Microsoft product will still not run on this Microsoft operating system at all, even at the "lowest resolution" and all "minima"l graphical settings, one monitor and full SLI.Even on the old Pentiu…

Howdy Folks,I have been running FSX on a 4 year old AGP machine since FSX was released. For the most part, I got away with it by basically turning everything down in the sim and just sticking with FS9. I had plans to upgrade the home machine toward the end of 08 but I did need to purchase a Laptop for work and such. I ended up getting a Dell 1520 with the following specs:2.2ghz Core 2 Duo2 Gigs of Ram8600m GT 256 Nvidia120 gig driveI recieved the laptop yesterday, and to be perfectly honest with you, I'm stunned at just how well it handles FSX. It easily doubles the performance I was seeing with my old P4 2.8 gig AGP machine. I can run Medium to High settings on everythin…

I am using Ch Pro Pedals with a CH Flight Sim Yoke. The problem is that the rudder pedals won't stay in calibration. I can calibrate them with and without FSUIPC and they work fine. The next time I either boot my computer or go into FS9 or FSX, the rudder is either offset to the right or it may work ok to the left or just very little to the right. I have even taken the pedals apart and checked everything within. Except for being a little dusty all seemed to be ok. I have no problem with the yoke calibration-it stays in cal. I've checked all cable connections and cleaned the potentiometer. After calibrating, the pedals work smoothly until the next time.Anybody else h…

Seeing as we get a lot of questions regarding video card choices for Flight Simulator, I think having this chart posted as a sticky would help.It doesn't include the new 8800GT as the chart is from some weeks ago, however it does give a good indication of expected performance between ATi and Nvidia models. QuestionDoes anyone have an opnion on whether a loaded 3ghz tower running bootcamp could run fsx . Is the fsx software able to take advantage of the large quad core processors that are available. I am buying the mac for music and video editing but If it can work for fsx it would be a bonus Also, do you think the mac and my pc could talk to each other using wideserver Peter K P.EngCF-MMZToronto Ontario CanadaPMDG 747,737and 747FLevel D 767

Hi all,I understand the need for a Page File in XP. It's there when there's insufficient RAM to store data from the hard drive. So, in theory, the more RAM you add to a system the less the page file is needed. That's how I see it anyway. So when I added an extra 2Gb of RAM to my system making a total of 3Gb why does FS9 continue to use the page file to store data when there's over 2Gb of unused memory? I could understand it if the OS couldn't recognise so much RAM but we're talking about XP for Pete's sake which can recognise up to 4Gb!And where's the logic in the recommended size of the page file being 1.5 times the available RAM? If I add more memory I would expect to re…

I just came off of an FS9 flight around San Francisco Bay. Since having installed the Cat. 7.10's the enjoyment of this sim has gone through the roof! Now here is what has me wondering...and ALL views are welcome...Whether it is ATI or nVidia, could all this time, the incremental releases of graphics drivers from the Big Two---well, could they from a (and I really truly understand if so...) business practise have been 'tempering' and 'holding back' truly stellar driver performance in each new graphics family, so as to SLOWLY scale up the performance of one's present card?Would this be to 'encourage' the user to buy the next and latest generation of the Big Two, rather than…
