My old Dell is 5 years old and is having problems. The bright side of this situation is that my wife is warming to the idea that I need a new system. Way back I used to use ATI Radeon cards and I liked them a lot. For one thing they were great with FU2/FU3. That really isn't an issue for me these days. For the last couple of years I have been using a overclocked nVidia GeForce 7600GS and I like it a lot.I run a lot of driving sims but FSX is probably the most demanding video application I'm likely to run at least until the advent of FSXI.The systems I'm looking at use either the ATI Radeon 2900XT (512mb or 1GB) or the GeForce 8800XG# (where # = S or X... some are upgradab…

I've used every configuration of words to attempt to "search" for the answer to this question. How can I assign the buttons on my external(n52) keypad to work the Garmin 500 GPS? In the Learning Center it says "keys can be mapped-see 'using the keyboard' which did not help. Is the only way to go by purchasing FSUIPC, or am I just not looking in the right places?hope this is the right forum!!thanks for any help! skip

Awhile back I bought a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB Video card to improve FPS. Now I get liquid smooth play with 100% AI, and just about every addon you can think of. The problem now though is one that has plagued many FS users without a solution. Anywhere from 5 minutes to 8 hours into a flight the toolbar disappears at the top and a black bar appears at the bottom of the screen. Hitting the ALT key ultimately freezes FS for awhile before i can finally exit it. This problem has basically rendered FS useless in my opinion. Now my question is is there anything I can do as far as hardware is concerned to fix this problem? I believe it is a hardware problem becuase wh…

I've been waiting all year to get a good video card. Now that 8800GT is available, I'm ready to buy. But which brand? Newegg shows five of them available: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....cription=8800GT+ Is one brand more reliable? + Quieter? (This is important to me.)+ Would the 50 MHz overclock on the EVGA board make an appreciable difference? (Reference standard seems to be 600 MHz, so it's an increase of 8%.)Thanks for any advice you have.

I'm thinking of building a new system, but I'm pretty unsure what components to use. Maybe someone has experiences already and can give me some comments.Primarily I wonder whether one of the new Opterons (Barcelona, e.g the 2350 Model), maybe even two of them, together with a mid-range NV 8800 adapter (price range approx. EUR 360) would have significant advantages over a more conventional Core2 Duo (e.g. 6750) and top notch NV 8600 approach. The price difference between such two combinations would be more than considerable. I also question whether to wait still longer for newer processors (Phenom comes to my mind) would be recommended. In all cases I'd run Vista and 8 GB RA…

This is just FYI, I installed beta version 169.01 ForceWare from the Nvidia website for my 8800GTX video card and I still have bleeding/flashing runways but my Frame rate with DX10 enabled and with bloom increased significantly, I would say on average 6 to 7 FPS more. This is what I did; please don

Hi,having recently bought a Nintendo Wii, I am going to mess with some open source drivers that are out there to build a cheap TrackIR replacement. Probably not the same quality or speed, but homebrew sure is fun.How does it work?1) Place the Wii's sensor bar on top of the Monitor or build your own array of Infrared LEDs.2) Strap a Wiimote to your head (Looks silly for sure wearing a brick on your head)3) Interface with the device using some existing libraries4) Triangulate the head position - ideally with 6 axes using both the acceleration and IR sensors.5) Interface with FSX.6) Fun!? - or Profit ;)I'll let you know how this works out. Hopefully somewhat better/faster th…

Okay - I'm at my wits end.I have a nice new Dell with dual core, 4GB RAM, nice fast SATA Hard drives and an 8800 756MB card.Runs Vista Ultimate very well. Runs FSX very well, Runs FS2004 very well. However, neither FSX nor FS2004 can communicate with anything outside the computer.Weather, multiplayer - nope. The ID is a member of the administrators group - though I get the same behavior when using the Administrator (capital A) system account.FS 2004 and FSX tell me my computer is not connected to the internet - yet I can have a browser window open with the fs2k.zone.com site, the FSInsider site - anything else working.I can run other games in multiplayer mode and connect to…

Hi everyone I would like to point this question to primarily Phil Taylor about a problem we have been experiencing on systems we have been building for FSX using the Vista platform ... but ... if anyone else has any ideas I would be most appreciative on your input It concerns using multi Screens and in the main .. the problem arises when applying a 2nd screen to the secondary port on the graphics card. If we undock say the avionics panel over onto the 2nd screen and click on it to adjust frequencies etc etc we have no problem ... but let's say we open something which is working outside of FSX such as serv-info or even a notepad window .. when we click on it .. it disables…

I've seen a lot of reviews for the new Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, but I can't seem to find any comparisons between Saitek & CH. Who out there has the Saitek Yoke that has also used the CH Yoke? Is the Saitek one better? Does it feel more realistic? Does it have a more defined center point for elevator & aileron axis? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi thereI have recently (in the last 2 months) upgraded and successfully fitted 2 more RAM cards to my current PC config and am pleased to say that it has helped with performance (generally) & response times. Although things have improved it is far from perfect. I am now thinking of doing a similar upgrade for my graphics card as this is the next thing that I could possibly play around with. This is my current setup (dated now I know):(CPU) 3.06GHz Intel Pent 44x 256MB PC3200 of RAM (2 original + 2 added) 160GB Hard drive (also have 750GB external hard drive)256Mb GeForce FX5200 NVIDIA Graphics CardWin XP SP2Can anyone recommend or give any comments on performing suc…

If I wan't one of the coming Penryn CPUs that should be significantly better than a current Intel core2duo E6750 and should not cost more than such a E6750 does now. And in addition to that if I also wan't one of the coming NVIDIA 9800 which should be significantly better and not cost more then the current 8800.If so then how long will I have to wait?

Ok so I finally installed my new HIS X1950 Pro IceQ3 Turbo AGP - 512MB card last night. Cleaned out my old Nvidia drivers using Driver Cleaner Pro. I then installed the new CAT 7.10 drivers along with the latest version of ATI TRAY TOOLS. I deleted my old FSX.CFG and created a new one. Overall I'm pretty happy with the performance I'm getting, however I am still experiencing major blurries:( I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or tweaks for this video card? I would also like to see someone with this video card post their FSX.CFG if they are not experiencing blurries.Thank you.
