Hello all,In my ASUS motherboard (coming tomorrow), there are two settings to overclock. One is Auto (where you enter a target frequency and the board will adjust the settings to reach it) or Manual, where you can set the RAM Latency (mine is 4-4-4-12), FSB, Vcore, RAM Voltage, and all those other advanced options. Which option should I use?I have also been debating on SP2. I saw in the great benchmark thread that it does offer a performance boost, but I have heard negative reviews on it CTDing, freezing, and all those things. Thanks and kind regards,BoeingGuy

Hello all,In FSX, I can peacefully run it on Ultra High settings with bloom and all options checked with a comfy framerate of 35+. But I am getting too many shimmers in the distance, especially over water. I don't have nHancer and do not feel safe using it. Suggestions?Regards,BoeingGuy

HI,I'm curious to know how some CPU's compare to others, mainly, when it comes to the frequency vs. multiple cores. In other words how would a single or dual core rated at say 3.00 GHz compare to a quad core rated at only 2.4 or 2.6 GHz. Do multiple cores running at a lower freq do better than CPU's with less cores running at higher freqs. Must be some advantage to having a multiple core CPU.My concern is in trying to decide which to get to run FSX.Thanks for any insight.Jim

  6. I've been googling opinions on Vista and get about 80% horror versus maybe 20% who like it or better. Some of these may be older articles, but I notice from vista64x.com that even there there is lots of grumbling going on, presumably from less hardware support for 64.If you've used V32 or 64 for long enough to understand it, and get your hardware compatible with it, what is your true impression now? Wait til Windows 7, or jump in? What would you do, TODAY, if you had higher end hardware?I'm trying to tease out opinion from those who installed it and quit on it quickly or maybe didn't have the hardware to use it. I'm on the fence on WHEN to pick up Vista 64, and may du…

Hi.. I've just installed an ATI Radeon 3850 512MB Card. I'm experiencing a slight shimmering effect in FS2004 in the scenery & a few aircraft. I'm using Vista running the display settings on Vista Basic as I believe the Aero settings in Vista cause a few conflicts! Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the best settings in FS & the ATI Catalyst Control Panel? For example do I have Anti Aliasing on or off in the application etc? Many Thanks

Alot of people have started to move to vista for directX 10 but to show you all that there is really no difference between XP and Vista take a look at this video. The DX9 shots actually sometimes look better. The DX10 water is too brighly colored and looks a tiny bit unnatural. The cockpit shadow is pretty good though but who is gonna spend 2 hours staring at a black thing moving around the cockpit lol. XP also has better performance than vista. Plus alot of good addons dont work with FSX SP2 which is a main downside for me.See yas,Jourdog.

I have just changed the 7800GTX to the new 8800GT 512MB.By now, I'm using WinXP and due to the windows, DirectX 10 still not usable on it. therefore I'm still using the 9.0c ver. After I clean up the old driver and put the most update driver from Nvidia. When I get it FS9,(*not FSX) it did not work right on the texture and it's framerate is realativly low than those 7800GTX. Mainly on aircraft lettering and lines.(as pics show below). I have think of many reasons that may cause those problem...but i really can't find it at all.See the front of the aircraftThe lines that make me crazy!I have tried 2x to 16xQ, Supersampling and Coverage Sampling, Triliner.but it's all the sa…

Pardon if this is stretching the venue of this forum, but since several FS flyers are using the new Saitek yoke with FS, could someone help me out with this question? On the pitch axis of the yoke, how many inches of travel does it have each direction from the neutral position. In other words, how far to the stop position does the yoke have forward and back? Thanks so much:-) Den

Have a question for anybody that has the new Saitek Yoke. How many inches of travel do you have on the pitch axis each way? In other words, from the neutral position, how many inches does the post go forward to the stop, and from the neutral position, how many inches does it pull back to the stop position. I have a VMax yoke, which has about 2 1/4 inches each way on the pitch, but want to know if the Saitek has more. Also, is the yoke really sturdy and precise feeling? Thanks a million!DFen Foulk

I have TripleHead2Go digital and am running FSX in Full Screen mode with a Nividia Geforce 7800 GT with 256MB video RAM. The question is are you running your setup in Full Screen or Windowed mode? And do you see much of a difference in FPS in either mode. Trying to decide if flying in Window mode will give me that much of a difference in FPS.My CPU is P4 3.6 with 4GB memory. Thanks in advance to all who reply.Bill

Hi,Firstly I decided to write this post because there is a whole load of information on here, some of it I find very hard to believe.. some of it I don't.. But I am in the market for a new system and really want a good result with FSX.I have friends that have spent a lot of money on hardware and frankly have seen little to no improvement, particularly when upgrading their graphics cards. So, I decided to dump my research here, which I believe to be accurate.Number 1 - FSX is CPU INTENSIVE.. if you want to spend money on a system and get good results that's the bit that needs the money. Standard Core 2 Duos are not enough, AMD X2 processors are not enough. I've seen it, m…
