I was looking at how FSX utilises RAM and pagefiles as I was flying. I peaked at 1.72 gb on my page file, and memory in the high end of 2gb. This is with a drive totaly dedicated to FSX software only. It is a 74gb Raptor with a 3gb page file system managed. The drive is working constantly, but not thrashing about looking for files. I have 2gb of Corsair DDR-800 memory running at 5-5-5-12 2Tcmd. My cpu is a Core2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 2.81 so far (been having trouble going higher). My OS is XP 32bit, and I'm running FEX, ASX, and GEX. I plan on getting UTX soon. My questions are these; would it benefit me to upgrade to 4gb of RAM, and what is the best way to optimize m…

  3. Last week I was testing overclock settings on my 8800GT, (with fan speed included), and I went into FSX and it crashed after an extended period within my flight. I reset the clock speed to a more moderate overclock (which I had saved), and went back into FS. Since then, I have seen a pretty nice increase in performance/framerates, almost as if the 'crash' helped (freed-up) my overall performance afterwards.Just thought this was interesting, and not something I have ever encountered with an ATI chipped card.

When I am running a dual monitor configuration I am getting an out of memory error. This does not happen with a single monitor. I have a Nvidia 8800 Ultra OC with 4gb Corsair Ram on an Intel Quad 6600. The 2 monitors are LCD and are running in different resolutions. Monitor 1 is in VC view, Monitor 2 outside spot view. After about 20 minutes strange lines appear on the screens, FPS goes down to 1-2 (from 23 with all sliders at 100%) and then FSX locks up and I get the OOM error saying I should reload with different video setting. BTW, I am using the 169.12 driver. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.ThanksBernd

I have the EVGA 8800 GTX Superclocked edition and I'm getting terrible shade effects on buildings and such. It seems alot of flickering with the shadows and also my MIP seems a bit intense any suggestions? Also is there a thread on the proper settings I should have with Nhancer and the control panel and FSX? Thanks

  6. Ok you pilots out there (or those who play one on TV). Got my new Saitek Yoke/Throttle Quad with an additional Throttle Quad for handling my 4-engine heavies into Kai Tak ;-) Now through FSUIPC I have been able to set my Throttles, Reversers, and my Flaps. It's the spoilers I do not inderstand how to set up for a jumbo.Looking at all the selections FS9 offers for Spoilers I am not sure which ones to use for an axis and where about they should belocated on the axis. If anybody has alreaady done this I could sure appreciate some guidance.Happy Holidaze!

This is the second time this has happened and the fix provided by Saitek isn't working this time around. I have both the throttle that came with the yoke and the additional throttle unit. My problem is when I use both throttle units together in say a B744. Even though the throttles are physically aligned, in FS, my #1 and #2 engines are at a higher throttle setting then 3 and 4. The first time saitek said to press and hold Ctrl+Shift when you launch FS and keep holding it until you're in cockpit view. They said that this will reset the controller .cfg (They forgot to mention the fact that it resets all your settings too.) This worked the first time but today I tried…

Just been given a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick as a present but despite the assigned buttons appearing correctly in the Logitech Profile and in the FS9 Assignment Setting, when I use it within FS9 many of the buttons function incorrectly. I presume there is a conflict between the joystick and something else but what and how am I gonna find out so I can correct things. Same thing happens within FSX btw.Any help gratefully appreciatedThanksGeorge

Price is relevant to my opinion of best value for my dollar. Thanks in advance for your input.Ron

HiNow that FSX can separate the atc voice channel from the other sounds again (like FS9)I've tried to take advantage of this.I've set up the voice channel to use my onboard Realtek sound device using headphones, while directing the remaining sounds through my SB Audigy card to the speaker set up.It does work initially and is a great way to fly! But after a short time e.g. 10 mins or so, the frame rates grind to virtually a halt - 1 or 2 FPS.This only happens with this configurationAs a non tecchie I presume this is the two cards conflicting. Is there any clever trick I can pull to get around this problem? Are others having the same problem?CheersChris

Hi.I'm planning to build a small sim to run FSX using the TripleHead2go with 3 x LCDs plus my existing main CRT monitor. Unfortunately once I buy the nice displays and TH2GO, there's not a great deal of money available for the PC upgrade. It runs FS9 ok I suppose but FSX is a different matter. I'm looking for suggestions on what will give me the biggest bang for my buck for FSX use without going out all and investing in a new system. My current specs are as follows:CPU: AMD Athlon XP3000+ , 2.17GHzRAM:1.25GB DDR400 SDRAM (3x512mb cards occupying all available slots).MOTHERBOARD:Gigabyte GA-7VA Rev. 1.0Graphics Card:ATI Radeon 9700 AGP, DVI output, 128Mb, Power Supply: 300W…

Hi all, I've been experimenting with basic overclocking and even when I OC just a small amount I get video artifacts in FSX. My 7950 GT came factory overclocked. GPU core is 549 MHz GPU memory is 772 MHz I have the settings in the graphics card set to Application Controlled. All I have done is change the FSB to OC. I locked the PCIe bus at 100 MHz. Processor and Graphics card temps remain within safe ranges after OC. Any help or hints would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Every time I go into the Task Manager, My CPU Usage is always at 100%, NEVER lower. PF usage is always around the 860 MB mark. I've noticed my regular programs like Firefox keep freezing, and I always have to reset my computer to get it to respond again. Is my computer nearing its end? Is there a solution to free up the CPU?

  16. HiI am just about to buy a new computer (self build) and would appreciate any comments on what I am planning to purchase. I am aiming the system to be "capable" of running FSX (primarily) and other games on the market - but with an element of future-proofing (ahh nirvana!). I appreciate from reading the posts on FSX for the past year or so that one persons "FSX is capable" can be different to another persons for a whole range of reasons from add-ons, drivers, tweaks, phase of the moon etc......So I have been buying the mags (UK Custom PC, PC Format) reviewing the websites (toms hardware, 3dguru, anandtech, etc) to try and come with a logical set of components. Where rel…

Hi all,I'm looking at a temporary replacement for my Radeon 9250 until I get the new computer. I had a couple of questions concerning AGP:1) I know what AGP Aperture Size is and I have it set at 128 MB (options are 64, 128, 256). Does it steal or share from the main RAM, example I don't want those computer scanners (like Nzone/System Requirements Lab) to tell me that I all of a sudden have 384 MB of RAM, 128 MB less than I have installed, I still want Windows to make full use of 512 MB of RAM, is this possible?;2)I have an Intel D850MV mobo, and it's AGP 4X, however I'm looking at an AGP 8X card. Will this work out? Thanks very much in advance.BoeingGuy

I know this has been discussed before but I have a question.Recently got a new computer with two 500GB hard drives. I put FSX on the second drive (E) by itself. I noticed, however, that the FSX .CFG file installed on the primary drive ©. Is this a problem?I've read both pro and con about putting FSX on a drive other than the one with the OS.Right now my performance is nothing to brag about but then again I haven't done much tweaking. Using Vista Home Premium. This is my second post on this - can't find my original post.Jim

Guys, First of all I wish you and your families a wonderful and happy new year!! I'm in a bit of a dilemma!! I have a pc which addresses my needs for work and renderings but not for flightsim!! (Booooo). I've been flying for the past 12 years and never invested in a good video card. I'm just fed up of playing FS2004 and not enjoying it to the full with some nice huge clouds and sceneries. I don't want to buy a new pc, I would like to buy a good AGP 8x video card for my PC which gives me some good frame rates. That is mainly what i'm looking for, good frame rates. Can anyone give me some feedback and guide me to a good video card??? I might buy it from eBay. All your help…

I need a little education on assigning FSX to various cores on a Quad core CPU.I downloaded SeeSaw Pro and I think I can figure out how to assign the running processes under that program. Can I assume that adding the "Affinity Mask" value in the CFG that FSX will always run just under a particular core or cores no matter what the running processes are doing?I have seen both 14 and 15 specified to run it with 3 cores. Which is it 14 or 15 and how does one come up with these numbers? Thanks for enlightening me.Jim

My system is an XPS 600 by Dell, would there be anything else I'd need to check for as far as compatibility? Lata
