Nvidia: CPU is Dead Written by Chris Tom Thursday, 24 April 2008 20:06 The Inquirer says that Nvidia believes the CPU is dead. Ok, well, that doesn't make much sense.Basically the CPU is dead. Yes, that processor you see advertised everywhere from Intel. Its run out of steam. The fact is that it no longer makes anything (including FSX, I suppose) run faster. You don

First, I want to say thanks for the help so far. This dose not mean the stuff below is what Is what was ment for me to digest, or as a "Take Home Message". However here it is:Part A. : CPU, but it will go to 3.6Ghz. It also has 4 gigs of ram, 500G HD and Vista 64/ultimate.My concern is that I want to be able to achive the followingg:Part B. : Use 2 Vcards ie...(with 4 total out's enableing 4 monitiors in windows mode, like the old FSCOF ((one monitor the panel the second the outside view and in the 3rd the (((FSCOF FSNAV))) of course four monitors for this application...or two in LSI if better in FS10, or that also allow you to use the Matrox set up. Is there a V c…

Hi all, I tried to search for these issues but I couldn't find it, so I guess it hasn't been posted. I have a couple of questions about my new video card so I hope someone can help me out. I just bought the Nvidia AGP GeForce 7300GT with 512MB of video memory and DDR. When I first ran FS2004, it would hang or lock up, and I had to restart the computer. It did this twice. I went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the latest drivers and that seemed to help. But now, every time I click on something in FS2004, it flickers a couple of times and everything is fine. It flickers every time I click on something, but only in FS. My old grahpics card never did that and it had vide…

Greetings fellow simmers,I have a new Gateway GT5676 running Vista-64 and an AMD Phenom 9600 quad-core processor. It has a 300w power supply that I need to replace in order to power my video card which desires a 500w power supply. I am thinking of getting something greater than 500w to allow for future upgrades. However, I realize power supplies are more complicated than watt ratings alone. I would appreciate any suggestions.Thank you in advance for any help.Bill Worth

Hi,I thought I would chance my arm by posting in both hardware forums in the hope that someone could comment on these results:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=16305#16305As you will see, I am a bit surprised to find that the Hitachi appears to be faster than the Western Digital drive. The latter is supported by the latest SATA2 drivers for my MoBo (ASRock 939Dual-SATA2).Mike

Hi, does anyone know of a small joystick that would make sense to use with a laptop computer or perhaps a 'full' joystick that would be collapsible (for transport) ? My alternative would be my old CH-Products Mach III, which is analogue, and so I would have to find a Gameport-USB converter if that exists.Cheers,Siggy

I've wanted to overclock my CPU a bit so I can decrease the amount of stutters a bit more and get a few more FPS BUT... I start to read about overclocking and within 30 seconds I get frustrated and give up. Dealing with voltages and such is something I cannot comprehend for some reason, plus it seems as if it woulod take me weeks to learn how to do this. This is probably a stupid question but is there someone out there that could lead my by the nose on the basics of overclocking my system? In other words, "do this furst, then this second etc". Not knowing what it takes to do this means I may be asking the impossible as the person doing this probably needs and exact sam…

I am building a new computer for FSX. The components arrived today and I now realise I ordered a 250GB hard drive instead of a 500GB (a slip of the mouse!) Is it worth while keeping the 250GB drive for just Win XP and install FSX and all additional flight sim related files (scenery etc) on the 500GB drive, or any other combinations? I'm sure I've read somewhere that this has its advantages. If there's not much point I'll post it back tomorrow. Thanks for your help

I always thought that we should leave the box for "AA" unchecked and let the vid card do it's own thing. Well, if I uncheck it, it looks terrible. I have this system:AMD 6000+ 64 X24GB Gskill PC6400Nvidia GeForce 9600GTAny thoughts?

I need some advice...would this be a good idea:hard drive 1 -- Vista64hard drive 2 -- WinXPhard drive 3 -- FSXNow, I wish too boot in either OS--is this method workable:use BIOS to switch the boot drive.Or, are people using boot menus and the like?I want each OS to not know the other is there. Completely independent operation. That's my goal. What is your advice on the best way to implement this...thanksRhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Is there anyone here who has an 8800GT, that has solved the problem of not being able to turn on AA. Just got this card today, and was totally caught off-guard by this. AS is working just fine, as you can see what's happening when you change the setting. Butt AA is another problem. From having it off to 16x, there is absolutley no change......jaggies, shimmering, etc. If I go and turn AA on in FS9, it improves greatly.I uninstalled old drivers, used DC and everything before installing new card and driverss. From what I've read since on nVidia's forum, is that this is very common on 8800GT and 8800GTS boards, but doesn't affect the 8800GTX. It also supposedly shows itself o…

Hello all, well I finally bit the bullet and after my P4 478 system died, I have decided to upgrade to the new 775 x38 ASUS Maximus MB and a QX9650 chip and all which needs to go with that, my only problem is that my PFC yoke is old style analog, (my old ASUS mb had a ribbon accessory to plug the port into) and my new MB has no serial port type plug in for that type. Is there a conversion that can be done to make it into USB, or an adaptor? This flight yoke was $500 years ago, is still like new and it would be such a waste not to be able to use it.Thanks in advanceClayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpg

After some extensive testing of the 3870X2 vs. the 8800GTX in FSX. I have returned to utilizing my 8800GTX within FSX.The 3870X2 in FSX seems to have the edge in graphical quality compared to the 8800GTX. However, when it comes to raw performace the 8800GTX whips the card hands down. ESPECIALLY if you are flying within heavy clouds and in a very dramatic fashion. For example in an identical scenario, with identical weather with heavy clouds the 3870x2 will drop to a crippling 8-10 FPS (even when reducing cloud textures to 256x256) and the 8800GTX will maintain 24-30FPS (with textures set 1024x1024).It's very evident to me that the Radeon struggles with cloud textures…

Last night I installed the PSS 777 Professional and all went well. I also installed the two service packs for the plane 1 and 2 and that went well. Rebooted, all worked fine with sounds. Closed down, went to bed. This evening, all Windows sounds seem to have disappeared on my DELL XPS Gen 4 PC. No startup sounds, no shutdown sounds, no WMV video sounds. I can play a Rolling Stones DVD using "Power DVD" on the PC and get sound but the WMV stuff and all DELL sounds don't work and no sounds at all in Fs2004. I did a DirectX test and it said something failed at Step 19 after I clicked to say I'd heard no test sounds. I tried to reinstall my original SB Audigy Z sound dr…

hello, i've never asked questions before but am looking for fast help now.I've just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, "months - not years" timeframe. thankyou for kind thoughts. So now the race is on for a soon to be bed bound pilot. I want to setup a harddrive to use FSX or an earlier version (which I have most) to run with the best performance with most graphics turned on for less than say AU$2000 with a 22" LCD TV as the monitor if possible. refresh rates? So the clouds look reel and I can feel the rain on my face. 7 years ago I previously assembled an amatuerish 5 screen wideview arrangement. I have 60 real time hours in a cessna 172, 15 in 182, 16 in a R22 robinso…

Did anyone read THG's article on PCI-E bus speeds and gaming performance?Surprisingly, FSX was one of the "games" that scaled the best with increasing bus transfer speeds. It seems even with built-in mipmaps and texture compression, FSX transfers a lot of texture and geometry data over the PCI-E/AGP bus.Or, maybe the built-in mipmapping is what actually causes the sim to be bottlenecked by slow bus tranfers speeds - the engine is, after all, constantly uploading/downloading different resolution versions of the scenery textures as you fly.http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pci-ex...-0,1915-10.htmlThe Radeon 3850 and even the mighty Geforce 9800 GX2 are severely limited by…

Hi guys,Wondering if anyone here can help me...Basically I'm getting a hard crash (comp switches off as if I'd taken the plug out of the socket...) EVERYTIME I use FSX. Can't think of anything in particular I've done recently to upset it (although did update MB Bios about a week before I had the probs), but it's been this way now for about 3 weeks (did it once in Gears of War recently also, but generally other demanding games seem ok). Updated all drivers, tried many different graphics settings + resolutions. It mostly crashes in game, but has also crashed hard in the menus (i.e. the front end, aircraft select screen etc - before I've even been into the game once!) + load…
