I suspect that by merely asking this question, the proper answer is "don't even think about it"...but, foolhardly as I am...is there a more or less simple way to bring my cp up from its native speed of 2.4 to something a little higher, without adding much in the way of additional cooling. currently the cpu runs at between 45-49 Degrees Celcius. btw, I have an asus p5k mobo which has a software program that is meant to aid in overclocking the bd and the cpu...but, I'm a little hesitant at this point to toy with it. If anyone reading this has experience with this bd and its software, advice is appreciated. Thanks...Sherm

I see on the Saitek site that there are new drivers and SST software (SD6?) for Win XP.I currently use SST profile editor ver 4.3.3 for my X45. I guess the new SST no longer accepts .dat profiles so you need to redo them. What I would like to know is if there are older drivers for the Yoke/Throttle that are compatible with the X45 so I don't have to redo my profiles, or is there a certain way that you must install so that both Yoke and X45 still work? Anyone tried this?scott s..

I'm about to order a new graphics card, but I'm not sure what will be best for FSX - the Nvidia 8800 GT or the Radeon ATI 3870 (the single version). The 8800 is supposed to be the more capable card, but it runs at 600 mhz and has 112 stream processors. The 3870 runs at 775 mhz and has 320 stream processors.I don't run any other games except FS9 and FSX and I'm getting acceptable fps. I had a difficult time getting FSX SP2 to work with the Nvidia driver (finally used nHancer to solve this). I think going to a 512 mb card will help texture loading.I've read lots of reviews on both cards, but they don't tell me much about performance with FSX. Any advice?Dale

Hi,I have an 8800GT card with the latest drivers and I am using FS2004. Just recently I have noticed that many of my aircraft liveries that have straight lines in them are jagged. The aircraft themselves are perfect, no jaggies at all, just the liveries!. This is evident on liveries such as Alitalia. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/dray...-apr-21-001.jpgDoes anyone have any ideas what I can change to fix this.thanksKeith

Could someone explain the correct way to un-install an existing driver and install an Nvidia video driver for Vista64.Is is it necessary to run a driver cleaner prior to installing the new driver? Windows Safe Mode?I'm using an 8800GT card with Vista64 and FSX.Thanks,Richard

Hi Guys,I've been searching the web and reading reviews and to say the least, am quite confused. I am looking to buy a 24" 1920 x 1200 and I thought had narrowed it down to 3 but then got more confused with comments about S-PVA panels? I was looking at the IIyama Prolite B2403WS, the Belinea o.display 4_24"wide and the Samsung 245B then I found a S-PVA being the DoubleSight DS-240WB which it seems in France has a DAEWOO badge on it which I'm not sure about. None of these are cheap and I really would appreciate some guidance please. I may be going in completly the wrong direction? F.I. the GPU will be an Asus HD 3870X2 so I think I'm ok to go to 24".Thanks,John

Well as my current motherboard won't support multiple video cards and I want to add a third monitor, I was looking around at the options and saw some good looking rigs from iBUYPOWER.Does anyone have any opinions on these? Particularly the http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=135As I have my monitors and peripherals, I really just need the motherboard, compatible RAM, and case with power. I want to image my current SATA HD to the new one as I have no desire to give up XP.Thanks.John

The stutter I'm getting is rediculous. I've been tweeking this thing for weeks and can't figure out the cause of it.I have all new drivers. I have shut down EVERYTHING in VISTA with AlacrityPC. I have changed the FSX.CFG in every way possible and still get stuttering. Any change I make in the DISPLAY properties of FSX has no effect on the stutter. Totally shutting everything down to its bare minimum has no effect. I still get this lurching of the ground. I'm running a dual core 2.33 CPU and am afraid to overclock it as it seems very complicated. Do I need to overclock this thing to get it working? This system runs CRYSIS just fine but can't run FSX. I'm using the defa…

Hi, ive been searching for about an hour now and have found some advice on how to setup my dual monitors for fs2004 but have had no success. I'm trying to use a widescreen 144x1600 with a 1280x1024 through a 8800gts and primarily want to use fs9 with a virtual cockpit view. ive setup dualview through the nvidia control panel but in the fs9 settings i have no option to select a superwidescreen resolution. Then if i run in windowed mode and try to drag the window across the second monitor it just displays a black screen on that monitor. I have also tried undocking the screen and creating a new view ect.I know this has probably been posted load but i've really tried using th…

I'm planning to take my video card even higher. What I want to know is what causes artifacting? Is it because of high temperatures (my heatsink is clean BTW), or is it because I've permanently overstressed and damaged the GPU, like my old Radeon?By the way, I'm planning to take it to 750/1876/1050 (OCing memory for higher memory bandwidth). With this I'll have a bandwidth of 67.2 GB/sec. Will the card even go this high without any of the above happening?Just curious, will a 9800 GTX with 70.4 GB/sec bandwidth and 128 shader processors running at 1688 MHz, or an OCed 8800 GT with 67.2 GB/sec bandwidth and 112 SPs running at 1754 (or 1876 if this works) run faster? Thanks,

Checking reviews on the EVGA forum before purchasing this GPU, I happened to find a promo-code that workded for this card to save an additional $20 on NewEgg. That brings the total down to $279.99. The code might work with other EVGA cards as well, but that I'm not 100% sure.Promo Code = EMCAEBJAJEVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130339Regards,

In case this is useful here is some experience of adding andexternal (USB) sound card and whether it "helps" FS9.1) This was done a Dual D945 machine where there were no PCIslots left to add an internal sound card (the best option). Thecomparison is with the same computer using the on-board soundcard.2) The sound card was bought to rip my record/tape collection and used with a laptop that can be moved the the hifi. What Ithough I would try was to see what happens to the machine thatis used for FS.OK : preamble. There are a number of issues using on-board sound with FS, themain problem is that the sound card uses CPU time and band widthon the main FSB to do the sound.…

I have rediscovered an ancient MS SideWinder 3D Pro that I originally used under Windows 95 (to play the legendary FURY3!) about 12 years ago. I want to use this joystick on another, newer PC that has Windows 98 (original version) installed on it. However, when I plug the joystick into the gameport of the Win98 PC, it says "Not Connected." I am wondering if there is any way I can get Windows 98 to recognize the joystick?Appreciate any ideas, thanks!JS

I just got my E8500, too (I saw the other thread here) and I'm having nothing but problems.Has ANYONE ever put a Zalman 9500 fan into a Dell? -- I have a Dimension e520 and the holes in the motherboard don't match up with any of the adapters that came with the unit -- even though I bought it from Dell! At Dell Tech support is useless when it's a little outside the box like this.I just can't figure out how to put this bloody thing on!!Thanks in advance to ANYONE who can help.

Not sure if there is any way to improve this, but I am using trilinear filtering in game and 16xAF in the video driver. Water reflection just looks so marginal compared to games like Far Cry & Crysis. Any way to improve the shimmering in dense forest areas in the NW and also with water reflection? Pretty marginal for this day and age. I don't have this issue in FS9.NoelQX9650 w/ Retail HSF|8GB Muskin PC-6400|ASUS P5E|EVGA 8800GT @700|Seagate SATA 2 x 4|Seagate Cheetah 15K.x|XP Pro|Vista 64--soon to be installed

Hi all!I have been reading various posts regarding the "z-buffer problem" people have been encountering with Subject. I am one of those unfortunate souls who has this problem too but not at every airport which I find strange. Frustrating to say the least. It seems to me it should be happening everywhere but I can't find anything wrong at KLAX, KSFO, or KSEA. Yet, at KHHR, the airport next to KLAX, the problem really shows. It looks really bad at KSAN and Friday's Harbor (KFHR) too. So I'm wondering if the problem isn't being caused by something else -- the airport AFCAD elevation for instance? In any case, I think us Nvidia video card owners need to unite and attack this p…

Hi all,Well, I just finished reaching my target CPU OC on my new Q6600 of 3.6GHz @ 400x9 (HW specs below). CPU 1.42v, NB 1.4v, SB 1.2v, FSB-Term 1.3v. Initial tests in MemTest, Super-Pi, and Prime95(quad) all inidcate completely stable. With this, I am so far pleased, although I will have to work a bit more later to see if I cant get the CPU volts down a bit and still maintaine long-term Prime95 stbability. CoreTemps are averaging in the upper 70s, sometime low 80s, per core. So, I have now taken a keen interest in NickN's tRD (CAS Latency articles) in this forum and have decided to see if I can get my RAM into the CAS Latency Windows of Interest (CALWI) described in t…

I currently have an Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 3.73 GHz Dual Core Processor with my Intel P5N-32 SE SLI Deluxe Motherboard. I have noticed that any more complex aircraft other than the basic default aircraft (without glass cockpit) makes me have to turn down alot of the sliders in FSX. Like the Eaglesoft Citation X I have to turn down most everything. I also installed Tile Proxy recently and cannot get crisp clear textures while flying. My tiles per second value is in the 800-1000 range while loading a flight but as soon as I begin taking off it drops to about 40 tps in flight. I figure that my CPU is the bottleneck in all of this.I'm looking at the Intel Core…

BSOD using FSX + Acceleration after 15 mins average. I can load an aircraft, run it for a short time (no flying, just sitting still on ground) and after 15 mins or so I get the BSOD. E6600 dual core, ATI XTX1950 graphics, Vista.I have previously been able to run FSX no problems, does anyone know if this is a graphics driver issue or a SP2 DX10 problem?I can't find the cause, because the power down crash leaves no failure message.ThanksGary

Hey everybody!Right now I am thinking about building a complete new system for me.I know that every MSFS is a program which is usually limited by the cpu. But an overclocked intel E8200 or an E8400 should have enough power for the FS9.Now I wonder if an GeForce 9600GT will be a bottleneck for my new system. Because I want the FS2004 at all sliders right and I will use a lot of add-on's like the pmdg 747, the German Airports series including the new Mega Airports, Active Sky and IVAO.Is the 9600GT strong enough to handle this type of FS9-setup?What do you think? Thanks to everybody posting!
