Its a hard one to test being that its so hard to get the bottleneck off the CPU, but if one were to test at thier highest resolution using 4x4 Supersampling, which even at 1600x1200 renders the scene internally at 6400x4800, I'm sure it would be clear what kind of performace gain SLI gives. Somewhere along the line the idea was spread that FSX does not work with SLI, now whether that conclusion is based on a CPU bottleneck I don't know, becuase you clearly won't see an SLI benefit without some kind of GPU bottleneck. I know ACES has always said SLI is a driver function and there is nothing specific an application needs to do for it to work, so they say there is no reason…

Ever since I installed fsx I have been getting d3d9, api, and msvcr80.dll crashes, they were driving me crazy. It got to the point where I was reinstalling windows once a month, and I just couldnt use flight simulator anymore. I dont want to jynx anything but i have done about 8-9 heavy flights so far without incident, something that was unheard of for me recently. There has also been no negative performance impact from switching to ati, and the monthly driver updates are very welcome. Now Im pretty much convinced that these issues with fsx have something to do with nvidia, whether they are nviidas fault entirely I dont know, but since fsx doesnt have a benchmark and …

I received a Supreme FX II Sound Card with my ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard. I also have an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude sound card that I will be installing in this computer as well. Can I install both cards and have ATC on my headset and all other sounds on my main speakers?I think the Supreme FX II card is based on the onboard sound of the motherboard, but I am not sure. Just curious as to if anyone has tried this.

These are hard to find CPU's are they not?Well yesterday I went into my local MicroCenter store and low and behold they had a dozen of these bad boys. And for $299 yet!!!If you live near a MicroCenter give them a call and see if they have them in stock. They are ONLY selling these in-store so they are NOT available online. This is by far the best price right now on these, and they didn't say how long this price will last. They have them listed normally for $399 at the store.Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there for those looking for a new CPU.If you don't know about it, the Q9450 is a Quad Core 2.66Ghz on the newer 45nm chip. It also boasts 12MB of on-die cache…

I'm curious what everyone thinks the best setup is, for effective air cooling. I recently purchased a new system with an E-8400, and from all the things I've read about how well these processors overclock on air alone, I'd like to know what others think regarding effective air cooling. Unfortunately, my case isn't the best for promoting lots of air flow, so I'm in a position where I need to install a lot of fans. I guess my main question is this, would it be better to have fans dragging air in from one side of the case, and expelling it out the other side OR should I try to pump as much outside air into the case as possible?? (what I mean by this is should I have ALL of t…

Hi Gang,I built my machine about three years ago: Intel D875PBZ MB, P4 3.2, 1 gig of ram, Radeon 9800 Pro 128 mbr video card and Maxtor Sata drives. The system has been flawless with FS9, but I recently added FSX, and the results are actually not too bad. If I stay out in the boonies with GA, the frame rates can actually hit 20. However, things can turn into a slide show in dense areas and get the blurries ad nauseam. Sliders are set to the low end of just about everything.I not going to spend a ton on a new set up right now, but I have ordered two more gigs of ram, and want to up grade the video card. I think this will help things somewhat.I've looked at some of the po…

Hi again, I currently run dual monitors, one 24" for VC with a 19" for gauges etc and was considering adding another 19" along with a TH2Go. With the faster and cheaper E8500 Dual Core out, versus the newly available but slower Q9450 quad, and it's soon to be available big brother Q9550 (but at twice the E8500 price and much slower), which is the way to go now ?Bob - Las Cruces NM.

No need to reply.Stumbled across a find that my/may not help someone doing a search.I have a Sharp Aquos 32 inch running at a pc mative res or 1920 x1080.8800gt xp sp2.Been fighting back and forth betreen getting blurs and trees, runways shimmering.Count find a good "in betren"setting. My tv/monitors sharpness setting at full produced alot of shimmering and bad sharpness. Turn it down just a little and it blurred out.So I used nhancer's lod bias to help it.By adding postive, it helped the tress shimmering but never looked good.Tip-Try Turning all the way DOWN your lcd/tv's sharpness and just use your cards/nhancer lod bias.I added some postive lod bias and cleaned my pictur…

Ok... so, I have a little budget to play with for my CPU/GPU(s?) choices. I primarily intend on running FSX at 1680x1050 (native res on my 22"). Other games maybe as well, but FS will dominate. Here are the CPUs and GPUs I'm considering, but I'm more than open to other suggestions:CPUs:* E8400 ($200, Hopeful OC to 3.6 GHz)* Q6600 ($220, Hopeful OC to 3.0 GHz)* Q9300 ($280, Hopeful OC to 3.0 GHz)* Q9450 ($300, Hopeful OC to 3.2 GHz)GPU:* eVGA 8800GT AKIMBO ($240, Possible SLI 2x?)* eVGA 8800GTS 512MB ($255)* eVGA 9800GTX 512MB ($300-$350 Depending on Factory OC)Now, I understand the many discussions regarding FSX being CPU intensive. I have other games to play, but reall…

Hi all,I recently tested the new 175.16 release: it worked great, but I had to reinstall Rivatuner, which wasn't a big deal. I have some questions: I disabled nHancer completely to test out FSX without it. It seems the AF and AA worked splendid even without nHancer, except for some shadows, which wasn't noticeable. Is it worth enabling nHancer again? Also the new version has something like 2xSQ AA, which is 2x2 Supersampling AA combined with 2x Multisampling. Should use this, or stick with the 1x2+4x SS setting? Thanks,

I got extremely lucky today and found a Q9450 available at an online retailer. They must have got one returned or something, because immediately after I placed my order I noticed that the Q9450 was showing up as on backorder again. I guess I got the last one, or the only one, they had in stock.Anyway, does anyone have any experiences to share about how this processor is running FSX? It is a 2.66 GHz Quad Core, and I am sure that it will be easy to overclock. I would guess something in the 3.5 GHz range would be very attainable at the least.Just curious.

At 51 years old I finally decided to build my own box and now it's done, BUT I'm getting some seriously annoying autogen artifacts when flying near cities - colored lines flashing full screen (but only one monitor at a time), buildings flashing in and out, geometric polygons, etc., and I can't figure out what the problem is.It seems to be worse when clouds load from ActiveSky 6.5 and Flight Environment -- using low res clouds for now from FE, do not use ASG at all. I have UT USA and Canada, with the UT Cities and FSGenesis patch properly installed and ordered in the scenery library. I have switched out all hardware one at a time to test that it's all working and still n…

I've got a couple or questions, but first a little story. I've been building / upgrading my system for the past 2 months. Yesterday I got an ASUS P5N-D motherboard (nVidia 750i chipset). The first weird thing with it is it makes a high pitched sqweeking/sqweeling sound kinda like a bad hard drive that might be memory related (it's the worst when running prime95 with lots of memory). I've got 8GB OCZ Gold PC6400 that I've manually set it in the bios and overclocked it with a q6600 to 3.0GHz. So last night and this morning I was benchmarking with a 8800gt. I got a slightly higher 3dmark06 score but benching on ultra high and high the frames where half of what the asus…

Hi All,I just built my own PC, but I'm really not much more than a Novice. I'm really proud of my build it runs fs9 like a charm and looks great. Sorry for all the rambling.....anyway, I would like to overclock to about 2.8 to 3.0 ghz. The reading on this just seemed to get confusing. Advice …

Finally I can run 8xs/16x and have no more black a/c display windows or issues with third party apps like FSPassengers opening windows within FS. It looks to me like all issues are resolved. I currently have 4 SATA harddrives in my PC.These are all partitioned. I have 4 XP and various backup/ghost partitions. What I want to do is to use 2 of these drives purely for FS.Both drives partitioned into 2 like so.Drive 1 - c: XP installed for FS2004 d: XP installed for FSXDrive 2 - e: FS2004 install f: FSX installDoes this look efficient? Would there be any benefit over having FS2004 installed completely with XP on 1 partion on a drive?ThanksGraham

Chip type: GeForce 8600 GTSI have attached a screenshot of what maybe a hint of what is affecting my system. I don't remember these hangs (maybe they did happen before it) before I got this external HD WD 500GB, but my P5VD2-MX and PCI-E card may be in conflict.I have now disconnected my ext HD since flashing my BIOS for the ASUS update of the PCI-E mobo fix didn't work. Failing this, I will try to clean out my drivers (video) and then install the Beta Nvidia drivers (174 I think). Failing that I will try a system reinstall. What made me upgrade to this new card about 5 months ago was my ATI card had accumulated too much dust and had a poor standard fan on it. I think it c…

Hi,My system is 3 weeks old and listed below. I received the OOM error after installing FSX and many add-on's. I applied the /3GB switch which solved the OOM error. However, eventually I get an apparent video memory overwrite. The corruption appears to occur randomly and not on every fight. The symptom is easy to describe. The video starts to break up with thin horizontal lines then quickly followed by a black screen. There is no recovery by Vista and the computer must be forced off.I suspected a bad GPU which VM agreed and sent a replacement card. The same thing happened with the second card. So, the catch22 is I get the video/memory corruption with the switch or an OOM …
