Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum

Going on a week now where I have encountered slow load times on FSX splash screen, Orbx "FTX Central" and even IE9 take terribly long to load. While updating my NVIDIA driver the screen went black and would not recover, long story short I ended up having to perform a system restore and since then I have been having issues. Is this a registry fix candidate using the Flight1 repair tool or is it something else? Thanks.

Hi There, I have been playing Flight Sim for a while now, But recently it seems after around 30 Minutes to an hour i get a FSX CTD, It either Hangs and goes to the desktop or purely hangs. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in.... So lately i've been doing long haul flights with the PMDG 747X. Two flights ago I did VHHH-CYVR, about 2 hrs into the flight, it froze. I was able to change windows for a few mins, after that FSX came up with the error message 'FSX has encountered an error.' Last flight i did a rather shorter haul from CYVR-CYYZ. No problems at all. Then tonight trying to do the return flight back to YVR, I was climbing out and was entering something into the FMS, after clicking execute it froze and eventually crashed FSX. Hello Simmers! Not an issue until resetting the settings on the FSX.cfg, now CTD's are coming every few loads. I have never had this issue before and no error messages come up, not even an OOM messge, just an "FSX is restarting". I am using roughly the same addons, although the recently purchased GSX is most likely posing n issue. Thank you for any help! Howdy, I posted in this forum because AlacrityPC was recommended in this forum and its fans seem to hang out here. I have used Gamebooster for a while and I used FSAutostart a long time ago. I have run through setting up the services and programs tabs but I am a little confused about its operation. I set the icon to FSX but when I run it, it shuts everything down and seems to restart everything. I am guessing that I have not set up programs to monitor properly. I have noting in the auto start window at this point because I want it to shut everything down but I want to start FSX manually. I use a external FPS limiter and I occasionally use Shade. Just recently I started getting atc.dll CTD. Ive struggled alot with my FSX over the past year, but when it works, its beautiful, so im not giving this up. The atc.dll however is a bit tricky. Ive now spent a good couple of days reading in and out about atc.dll CTD`s and attempts at solutions. It occurs ALWAYS in CRZ and at a certain distance into it. To begin with I was convinced it had something with ATC in FSX to do.. But now I know better. What confuses me is where to begin. After weeks of research and trying all the fix's I may of found the cause of my FSX locking up. I used Norton Internet Security to monitor my memory usage while flying and that over time I found that Windows Media Player was using more and more memory until my 4G's were full and then it would lockup. I did a search for the Media Player file wmpnetwk.exe and found out how to disable the program which I do not use on my Sim computer. I have now flown many hours without a lockup on my Windows 7 system. Ken Packer

Per instructions from this forum I have listed a report below involving four CTD. In general these were happening when I was learning the PMDG NGX tutorial 2. This occurs after periods of time (< than one hour). The problem I don't think is PMDG rather it's me to the extent that it takes me awhile to work through it so the machine is kinda sitting there as I read and enter data. Hello all. For a while now I have had a problem with FSX which before today I have just shrugged off. But its about time I got to the bottom of the issue, which is this: I fly for a virtual Airline. I can do Medium and short haul flights without issue. I can do Long Haul from Heathrow to the Far East. My problem occurs when Im long haul and going West. I fly for hours without a hiccup. But, in the last two days I have tried EGLL to KBOS, twice, as soon as I reach the coast of Canada and two days running at point YQX FSX just freezes and hangs. After I executed an FSX repair job using the disk, when my contrails appeared as black square. I have reason to believe that the modules related to objectflow from FTX are causing FSX to crash to the desktop if you alt tab or alt enter and switch to desktop.. If i remove these entries, I dont experience the crash. The event viewer on my windows 8 x64 box show errors related to d3dl.dll however (fsx crash dumps). I've tried running FSX both as "administrator" and in normal mode to no avail.. Has anyone else ran into this and knows what could be causing it to crash related to the ftx modules? Hi, I was starting a new flight and was in the "free flight menu" when the power was loss. Not a psu problem the pc was hard disconnected from power socket. After that i boot the system again everything works fine. Start new flight and then it CTD on free flight menu. Thing i have done: Check harddisk for errors Delete fsx.cfg Disable all addon scerery's Clean start up without all trusted dlls Reinstall nvidia drivers Thanks for your tips and tricks;)

Since a couple of days, FSX Acceleration gets stuck on loading the FreeFlight menu. It's weird because I am still able to load a mission and start flying and all add-ons load properly, even TileProxy. I tried many different solutions, including a repair from the original disc. I started tweaking the config file and that did indeed work when in a mission. As soon as I hit the FreeFlight menu, FSX crashes. In the log, there's a hint to the 'g3d.dll' file, and since then I have read many things about it here in the forum. Still, no go. Just installed Earth Simulations Scilly Islands. Did set to default in Orbx FTX Central before I installed, but when i try to run FSX in default mode it crashes. Weird thing is that when i set Orbx to either NA or Oceania everything works. But the problem is that in this mode I dont get any autogen in the "scilly island scenery", and I don't like that I can't run default mode anymore. I'm sure I can't blame Orbx for this because default mode worked fine before i installed Earth Simulations. Anyone expirienced the same? for the 3rd time this month i have to reinstall fsx and ALL my addons, because I added some freeware emb rex textures to my texture folder. And now my fsx doesn't load a flight without crashing... Im about ready to just start using default fsx cause its getting really frustrating.

Hello everyone! I seached forum for similar topics but i didn't find the answer, so maybe somebody could help me. I bought a new computer this week and everything is running smooth. Today I realised, that I forgot to set up my ENB series so I copied everything to FSX folder as usual, but upon start my FSX just says "Fatal error occured" because of d3d9.dll. I have nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti with 301.42 drivers. W7 64bit. There was no problem with my old 4830 Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello, I always hoped that I would never have to post here, but oh well... Anyway, I start FSX Deluxe with Acceleration and both SP's installed fine, but when I try to click on one of the menu options on the left (multiplayer, settings, etc) nothing happens for a few seconds but after that a fatal error and CTD. I was hoping that somebody could help me out with this, perhaps they had a simlar problem and fixed it somehow? This has never happened to me since I bought FSX back in 2007, and a reinstall would be a nightmare as I have numerous payware aircraft, some which require money to redownload. Thanks.
