Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum

CTD's are a simmer's nightmare. This subforum is established to specifically discuss CTD's. Please do not place CTD messages in the main FSX, FS9, or P3D forums. If you do, they will most likely be moved to this forum.

I am experiencing CTDs randomly to the point where I lose about every other flight. Today, I tried flying from Burbank to Seattle twice and both times I had a CTD (not a blue screen). I am only operating FS9.1, Radar Contact 4.2, AISeparation, and ActiveSky6. I also run FSNav within FS9. Prior to flying, I shut off my screen saver and Webroot Spy Sweeper applications. When I get a CTD only FS9 goes away. I get a desktop view but the other applications are still running. My first CTD was at the 1 hour point in the two hour flight. The second was when I was decending to 11,000 ft about 60 miles from Seattle. Needless to say, having a CTD after that long is very frust…

Hi,I got regularly blue screens or reboot actions after 5 to 10 min. running FSX. After installing the newest version of the DirectX driver (October 06) FSX seems to run. I could fly for about 2 hours in different areas with the standard display options. It would be interesting to see, if other users have similar experience.Erhard

Hey everyone. I will try to keep this short, but I am going to pull my hair out. Ok, After testing my rig to see what triggers this.. It seems on take off run once I reach over approx 100kts either right before, or after I leave the runway I get the stop error 0x0000007f. It happens all the time in the DA Piper Cheyenne, and now it happened in the Flight Factory Saab340, so I know it's not one perticular AC. I ran mem-test all night, no errors. I reinstalled my video and audio drivers. I rebuilt my cfg. I suspect something with the audio. As I am going down the runway, as I reach TO speed, I notice the sound starts cutting in and out, then WAM blue screen. I am so lost he…

Setup a free flight from Hobart, Tasmania to the South Pole Station. I was at cruising altitude ~30,000 feet in the Learjet and as I was cycling through the views (using the joystick thumb button on top - MS FF2 stick), I suddenly only had 2 view options - chase plane and the "undercarriage" view. Hitting the joystick button would toggle between these, but I couldn't get to the cockpit view any more. I hit the toggle a couple more times, confused, then the game locked up and I got the blue screen.Asus A8N-SLI PremiumAMD X2 3800+ @ 2.55GHzOCZ 2GB @ DDR466XP Pro SP2

Hmmm - I had FS9 on another machine for years - no problem. That machine died (ok I killed it flashing the BIOS) so I bought a new one, and installed it about 3 weeks ago. All was good. I kept my old FS9 folder, installed fresh on this copy of windows xp, then dragged the old folder and replaced the new one with it. Cool - all my terrain upgrades (a ton from FS genesis) and years of freeware and payware planes - all there no problem. Used the sim a lot for the first couple of weeks, then got FSX and have been tinkering with that. I now want to use FS9 again, but two things stand out. (Today was the first time in a week and a half I loaded it up)...first - none of t…

I've been having a problem with sudden reboots in FS9, and it seems to be cropping up in FSX as well.Sometimes they happen just out of the blue, but one thing I know that greatly increases the chance of it happening is going to the map view screen. When I switch back, quite often the computer will reboot itself.I've updated both my video and audio drivers.I have a P4 3.2 ghz, 2 Mg pc3200 ram, ATI X800XL 256Mg video card, Windows XP home sp2.Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. I'm fresh out of ideas on what to do about this very annoying problem.

Hi,I noticed very frequent crashes in FS when FS is running in the background, by this I mean I minimize FS when on a long flight to be able to do other things with the PC like reading this forum etc during the most boring parts of the flight and only come back to FS once in a while to check everything is fine. Usually it works just fine the first 10-15 minutes or so but then all of a sudden I get this lovely "FS9 has crashed, we are sorry for the inconvenience..." message and all there is to be done after this is using Task Manager to end the FS9 process.Every time this has happened, the causing module has been ntdll.dll.The problem never shows when staying within FS dur…

hmmm - I was flying the takeoff and landing mission (helicopter) and thinking - I should post a positive review at avsim - just to balance out things. Frame rates are ok, and the sim looks gorgeous on my low end machine (3GHz P4, nVidia 7300GS , 2 G ram) then zonealarm popped up, minimizing the FSX to ask me to allow/deny something to phone home. Clicked deny, and tried to get back to the sim - I can't! It is still running, shows in the task bar, and the task manager shows it as running (as opposed to not responding), yet I cannot anyway or how get back in. Clicking on the minimized window does nothing, using the 'switch to' in task manager does nothing, alt-tab does …

I am randomly getting a blue screen stop error only when using FS9. The following is the debug information:BugCheck FE, {5, 8a3620e0, 10de00e7, 8a017268}Probably caused by : usbohci.sys ( usbohci!OHCI_PollAsyncEndpoint+41 )Followup: MachineOwner---------I have no idea what usbohci.sys would mean, although I know that it is the USB driver for WinXP. I checked the file version number and it is the correct usbohci.sys file. I also checked my system running Prime95 for 12 hours and there was no problem there. I am not overclocking and my CPU and video card temps seem ok.I am stumped. Anyone have any ideas? I tried googling usbohci.sys and didnt come up with much. By th…

Hi fellow pilots,I am having a problem with FSX crashing to the desktop as it loads. It started with my changing the AGP aperture size in the bios. I changed it back with no poisitve effect. I ran the repair function from the installation disks and that didn't fix it. I did a system restore and that fixed it once. Now it is doing it again and the system restore trick didn't fix it. Is there something I can do that will tell me what the problem is? I am running a 3.2 gig Intel P4 with a gig of ram and an ATI X850PE card. Thanks for any help.

I have put on the main forum a list of other problems concerning FSX inxluding graphic being blurred and it running slow...but i am having problems with CTDS. when i go to change a view the SIM shuts down. I was at one airport and when i went to click top down view it shut down and i was spotting a plane somewhere else and when i clicked cockpit view it shutdown.i think this could either be because i just got the sim today and it needs time to adjust, it is running very slow, or thet it is a CTD problem please help me because i am having no end of problems with fs.thanksMIKE

Uninstalling the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer driver cured the FSX CTD problems on my system (AMD 64 X2 4200+). To uninstall the driver, just re-run the AMD installer program (a free download on the AMD web site) and it will remove the driver.

I cannot end a flight in FSX using ESC without the sim minimizing to the taskbar at the bottom, and losing control of my mouse. The music starts to play in short bursts every second or so, and the mouse will move to a new position only during short bursts of time. I have to estimate where the mouse pointer will go to get over a clickpoint. The sim is virtually useless to me at this point. I cannot uninstall it either.

After uninstalling FSX my FS9 no longer runs, giving me an "error-less" CTD when I hit "fly now". Anyone have a similar issue and any thoughts on correcting it. My guess is that the registry entry has been messed with by FSX. Any way to fix this short of a reinstall?

I have an XML Avidyne and XML G1000 set of gauges that for a very small number of people cause CTD's. Usually these people have ATI cards and/ or strange mixes of memory sticks, as opposed to matched pairs. I now have a CTD with a matched pair and a nVidia card. I and our beta testers do not get these CTD's. The gauges make use of XML transparency and also bitmaps with alpha transparency. I'm guessing that the transparencies are the cause of the problem, but like I said, that's a guess. Anybody here know what may cure this problem? cheers, nick

Hi all!Just a quick post to let you all know about this issue that was causing CTD/Reboots for me when using FS9.The fault was due to AC97 drivers from the date of 15 December 2005. Once I deleted the said driver and installed an earlier AC97 Driver, all was well! (just Google for an earlier driver). This issue only effected FS9, so if you're having the same problem, give it a try.Regards,CaptEngland. :)

I recently began experiencing frequent blue screen crashes related to memory errors. In backtracking, I realized I started getting the crashes after I installed Real Environment Pro. For some reason, my PC does not like whatever textures I installed with this program. I reverted back to my old FS textures and so far no more blue screen crashes.I really like the looks of this program but my machine can't handle for some reason.Anyone else having this problem? Mike

Here's a wild idea I just got today. I think CTDs are caused by online flying (also). Or possibly Squawkbox (aircraft textures).I just lately did a reinstallation of FS, and did couple of flights around Europe, without traffic, all offline. Not a single CTD. I also did a EDDF-EGLL flight. So, and today I decided to go online again to do that EDDF-EGLL flight. And just as I was starting my Engine Nr. 2, it crashed to desktop.IMO, FS crashed because someone joined. Nothing else happened in that moment. I wasn't even touching sim. Engine 1 was running and I just wanted to start Nr. 2.I am also not saying that CTDs can't happen because of some double AFCAD files or some ground…
