This is our "official" Race Thread. Pilots post the baton transfers, the Wingman declartions, and pilot updates and other real stuff. Chit chat & scouting, and Pilot Reports go into PREPS Thread #1.Pilots picking up the baton should reply to this posting (the top posting of the Race Thread).

  2. Hi all,You will want to download the Reggie Fields AFCADS for the RTW Race. These add critical lighting for many of our airports. (And there are flatten files for Courchevel LFLJ.)You can get to the AFCADS by going to the Resoures page for the Official Round the World site:http://users.adelphia.net/~mattsmith19/RTW/contact.htmLook under downloads, the second line. These will prove critical.Best,Mike

Hi all,This thread is for pilots flying the EDHL-EDDI (Food) route. Put your takeoff and confirmation posts here.(Pilots flying other routes should switch to the appropriate forum.)This separation of threads will help us keep track of who is doing what.Post progress reports as is convenient. And please report any mishaps as soon as possible...so that the team can adjust and reallocate pilots. This short route requires quick turnaround. Thanks,Mike (and all)

  6. This is The Main RULES Thread....Gentlemen,The RTW Website has unfortunately suffered another unexplained cessation of function. Until we get it back up and in compliance with my obligation to make the full rules public at least 24 hours before the race, I give you the complete rules for the 2006 RTW Race. Should we be unsuccessful in getting the website back up, this post will be the official source of rules. The rules are below. I will see you all (I hope) at the starting line at 1700Z tomorrow.Moderators, if we could get a pin on this at least until the website is back online that would be great.Best of luck on the final preparations.-Matt SmithFor the RTWR Executive…

BERLIN AIRLIFT LAST MINUTE ORGANIZATION.We need to complete 24 missions, 8 each from ENTW, EDHL, and EDDF.Approximate times and distances follow. (Note that these times do not include the friction of takeoff, landing, and posting the Duenna txt file.)EDHL 130nm 46 minutes Food.ETNW 145nm 51 minutes Coal.EDDF 235nm 1 hour 22 minutes Chocolate.Pilot allocation will depend on how many pilots we have and the possibility of mishaps. It might be best to start with 4 experienced DC-3 pilots on the longer EDDF run. Then add one to EDHL and then one to ETNW, one to EDHL and one to ETNW until we get 4 each. With 12 pilots, we can do 2 missions each and gain th…

  11. Hi everyone,A few last minute things:I've spoken with John Muller and he's clarified for me that an account on the Duenna is only required for real-time flight tracking and if you would like to track your statistics. E-mail either John or me to get one. If you would like to enable real-time flight tracking but don't have an account, I've created some generic team logins that everyone can use to get us going. They are:Avsim: username avsim password avsimFlightsim: username flightsim password flightsimSim-Outhouse: username sim-outhouse password sim-outhouseThese accounts will let you enable real time tracking until we set you up with a personal account. Again, it is no…

Berlin Tempelhof (EDDI) has two runways for approaches from the West.Runway 9R (88*) ILS 109.70Runway 9L (86*) No ILS.The VOR is 114.10 and there is a NDB west of the field at 347.0(You might set up your flightplans accordingly.) The current weather is fine. There is a low pressure system moving in but not sure if it will affect the Airlift time window. You might expect overcast conditions somewhere in Germany today. The current METAR is:EDDI 191550Z 29006KT 9999 BKN028 05/01 Q1005 NOSIGThis is a report for Berlin-Tempelhof, Germany. Just a reminder that the Berlin Airlift Kickoff event starts at 1700Z today. If everyone can fly two successful legs, we need 12 pilots. If a few can only do one leg, then we need more pilots. If we fall short, then we shall be unlikely to gain the full bonus. And might be starting the Race two or three hours behind the competition. So please sign up either here or in the Planning Forum.Everyone can fly at once--there are no restrictions. The more pilots that can give even one leg, the more likely that we shall meet the requirements and gain full bonuses. So let's get the race started with a tremendous success.Who can make it at 1700Z on Sunday?Best,Mike

The private forum for Team Avsim this year is located at http://team-avsim.irchaven.org (pardon the possible spam in the url, but it was the best domain I have access to... :) )Those interested in making a contribution to the planning for the 2006 race, please PM me (StoneC0ld) on the private forum to request access to the hidden forums.NOTE: It would GREATLY help to register using the SAME username you use here on Avsim, as it will make it much easier for identity verification, and *may* require a verification check via PM here on the Avsim forum if we're uncertain if you're really the same person... Using the same username will likely speed up your being granted acces…

Hi everyone,A Berlin Airlift Rules Clarification. The flight period is 1700-2000Z. Flights completed by 2000Z count toward the bonus. Teams may then (at 2000Z) depart for the RTW portion of the Race. (But no sooner than 2000Z.)However, as an option, at 2000Z teams may delay their RTW portion and wait for incoming flights that are already in the air. If they do so, they count those flights in the total. For example, at 2000Z a team might have 6 incoming flights (worth a 1 hour bonus) still in the air. They might well wait for those planes to land. The teams may not depart until after their planes have landed and been authenticated and they declare their Berlin Airlift total…

AFCAD files for all bonus airports without lights and several key corridor airports are now available on the RTWR website. These files add low level edge lighting to the runway, PAPI or VASI as appropriate for the country, parking - away from the automatic refuel stations and in most cases turning pads at the end of the runway.

Sorry I can't be there guys, but I'll monitor the progress as best as possible from the office. Best of luck to all and I'll catch y'all later on during my active shift. I took the liberty of dropping off a ton of coffee/cola/pizzas/etc for all our airlift pilots. Enjoy.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/142344.jpgBest Regards,

I have recieved a few questions and just wanted to clairify some of the things with regards to the real-time tracking in the Duenna. The Duenna can track two things:1) The current position in real time: this is mainly eye-candy and fun to watch - on a map or in 3D in Google Earth. For this you will need an account: send me a mail at jm @ johannesmueller.com to get one. I'm making them as fast as I can. It is activated once you select "send realtime position to server", you can have it activated whenever you want, it would be great to at least have the baton runs live (but again: it's optional and all eye-candy, no function).2) The flown legs: this really helps us keep tra…

I want to make available to you the updated baton tracking tool that I used last year. I will be using it to track each teams progress and statistics and would appreciate members of the AvSim team helping to keep your legs up-to-date. It will provide each of us with up-to-date statistics on each team's progress. I'll be posting updated maps with team progress and statistics throughout the race.In addition, this site offers real-time 3D tracking of ALL THREE TEAMS in Google Earth. This means we can watch exactly where you're at and you can see right where we're at right down to the foot and mph. I think this will add a new level of excitement to the event as we'll be able …

Hi,Some personal observations on the Route Planning process. These are NOT OFFICIAL remarks. This year, we (mostly Reggie) spent many hours trying to create alternative ways around the world. We created twelve ways (some rather less obvious) to make the trip. We then used the Corridors and Bonus Airports to balance out the net times (that is, the expected time to completion minus the bonus hours). This process took into account the number of stops, the different expected ground speeds in the East/West Hemisphere, the use of classic aircraft, and so forth. The plans did not account for the use of the wild card, or for the difficulty of some of the airports, or for any expec…

  23. Since there is no self-serve registration form for the real-time baton tracking system that's built into the Duenna, you need to contact John Mueller to get one.For info: http://johannesmueller.com/fsforum/viewtopic.php?t=205MM, Ian Dale, and Matt Smith can also create accounts, but John says it might be faster to contact him directly at jm at softplus.net (anti-spam measure for John's protection :()Contact whom you wish of the above people, but register ASAP so we can make sure as much of our progress is trackable on the race website as possible! For those who haven't already gotten accounts, anyway.... :(

  24. Hi folks-I want to first publically thank John Muller for the amazing work he's done for this year's RTWR. We truly would not be where we are without him. His work on coding and updating the RTW Duenna has been nothing short of heroic, and his latest effort, which I'll discuss below, adds a lot to the race.If you visit the "Follow the Race" section of the RTW Website today, you'll for the first time truly be able to do just that. Thanks to John's amazing work, everyone will be able to follow each team's baton around the world in real time. Right now, of course, our world map is showing the position of each team's practice baton flights, but once the flag drops we'll b…

Hi all,My primary ISP is having problems it seems, so I'm down to modem speed UFN. And trying to browse the Practice thread is close to impossible due to the amount of data. So Please (not because of me, but others may have/get the same problem): Do not post screen shots in the main Racing Thread. Alternatively: Uncheck the 'Imbed URL attachment' checkbox - then people can still see there is a picture, but are not forced to download it on a sloppy modem :(Thanks,Sven Sorensen, EKCH
