AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum

RTWR 2006: Heads-Up Notices for this Weekend.1. The 2006 Race will feature a unique 'kick-off' event offering an opportunity for all members to participate and contribute to getting their team started around the world. Unlike the previous races, all possible team members should plan to be ready to fly when the flag drops on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 1700 UTC. The event lasts three hours and puts a premium on participation. Pilots should be checked-out in the DC-3 (Default or MAAM-SIM). Additional details will be posted when the final rules are released before the start of the race.2. Among the Special Rules for 2006 will be a Pressure Altitude Restriction. Teams should…

A Welcome and a bit of history. The Round the World Race has been conducted between the major flightsim forums since 2003. The first race, between FlightSim and AVSIM, featured a come-from-behind win by Team AVSIM. And 2004 was a relatively easy win, with the team pulling away in mid-race due to some misfortune on the FlightSim side. In 2005, the race became a three-way race when Sim Outhouse (SOH) joined the mix. That year (last year), misfortune fell on AVSIM's doorstep during the key "Concorde" risk/reward portion of the race. As important, Team FlightSim got more thoroughly organized, mobilized many more pilots, and won by a couple of hours. The Race is open to all. You…

Hi all,As you may have seen, over the last couple of days people have begun to report various problems with Bushnet/multiplayer in general. The biggest issue is the inability to join a session. Yesterday evening Gazer75, arrvoo, DarkCharisma, sfoofficer, Jozef and myself joined forces to see if we could identify and hopefully solve the problem. We do have some clues, but unfortunatly, the problem is still there...First, this is not a Bushnet problem. We also had problems on Gazers MP server. Second, it seems to have something to do with peoples setup at home: Router, Firewalls etc (however, there was 1 thing speaking against this! See later).Examples of what happens is: W…

We are repositioning the baton to WAPL in Indonesia. The team consensus is we need the most practice right now in the South Pacific. The first leg will be WAPL to YBAM to touch the Australian continent. After that, continue eastbound and try to keep the legs at 2hrs or only slightly over. The goal here is to find a route accross the South Pacific without using any of our wildcard (more than 2 hour) leg(s). If we are going to take penalties (every minute over 2 hours is a 3 minute penalty), we need to minimize them.Baton free at WAPL.Good luck on this navigation challenge!

I flew the first The first leg will be (WAPL to YBAM ) of practice thread #8 in the Flight1 Piper Meridian. I watched on Bush net as wt1l touched down at WASR.I connected to Bush Net using the muli-player FS option the (first time I ever have used it) and my plane was listed as being at WASR, Duenna was ready and I would have been willing to take the next leg except I did not know the designated route thus did not know to which airport I would have flown.I am sure the team would not want me to really fl…

The darn thing keeps telling me that my weather isn't setup properly.Im using FS2004 and it says my Mode isn't set to Realistic (Static) or Realistic (Dynamic) which it is, and it says I need to check the winds aloft button (Which I cannot even find)Any idea's?

Hi everyone-We are planning to take the baton from Nairobi, Kenya (or thereabouts) to Cape Town, South Africa on Friday at 0000 UTC. This will be a Concorde run. Depending on the distance and available airports it may be split into two legs. All are welcome. After that the plan is to continue northbound in the usual planes to practice at African airports.Cheers,Chris WT1L

Hi all,Yesterday (evening, my time - night, FS time) I flew a leg, but blew the posting part. So I thought, why not look at the Himalayas in daylight, even if it'll screw up the Duenna. And so I did, managed to land at some small runway south of the mountains in fog, and stopped the Duenna. And Lo & Behold: My flight was deemed valid??? Even if I had made night into day?? Of course, you could see from the start and landing times that something was screwy, but what if I had reset the time just prior to landing? My question is: Isn't this something the Duenna should handle? Actually I thought it did...BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

I don't know if SSTs will figure into this year's race, but I'm already psyched about the possibility. I still have my procedural notes (T/O, Climb, Cruise, Descent, & Lndg) on the PSS Concorde if anyone's interested in getting them. I'll be typing them up and can forward. Please PM me if you desire a copy.As a sidenote, I'll be checking out alternate mounts of similar make to see how well they perform.PS - Chris, Sven, and Jeroen. Please check your own PMs in the next day or two. Got a surprise for you guys. :)

It's easy to forget critical items under race pressure. I've prepared a short checklist with the most important things to check before rolling on a race leg. This is meant to be used as a final check. Feel free to modify it to your liking, but I recommend keeping it short.Best,Chris
