  1. Earlier this week, I flew a bunch of test flights using the Avanti and a few in the P-38J for a comparison. All flights were done using a direct flightplan from CYWG to CYTH, which is about a 355nm flight almost due north. Not all flights went the entire distance from takeoff to landing, however, as some of the flights were to deliberately attempt to overspeed and overstress the aircraft to record the speeds at which they overspeeded and overstressed...Anyway, all my flights done on February 14th appear as they should on the Duenna graphic and text file. All my flights done on February 15th have a problem: All the flights that went all the way to landing at CYTH, all sh…

Everyone,Our website is now online and fully up-to-date at http://users.adelphia.net/~mattsmith19/RTW/This is thanks in large part to the help of numerous people as we coped with a power failure at our old server's location in the wee hours of this morning. In particular, the help of Avsim's John Binner and Tom Allensworth was indispensable. My deepest thanks goes out to them.Hopefully this will be the last of our server woes.If anyone has any last minute questions the committee is standing by on e-mail - you can get our addresses from the site.Otherwise, we'll see you at 1700Z tomorrow!Matt SmithFor the RTWR Executive Committee

I think Bobby Labonte is going to put Richard Petty's #43 back in victory lane for the first in almost 20 years.//---------------------------------------------------------------------------Re that other minor event which starts Sunday about the same time - 1700 UTC.I've been told I can let you know some things I've learned about the RTW Race - subject to last minute changes of the organizer's minds.(1) The argument that there are many DC-3's flying with updated avionics has been won. You can replace the DC-3 panel with modern avionics. Personally I enjoy the panel by Norm Hancock available at http://www.dc3airways.com/panels_fs2004.html Another excellent source is http://…

"You must fly in real-time. In other words, your flight simulator clock, when you are flying in your home time zone, must be set to read the same as your desktop clock" (from the Race Rules)As I most of the time are probably not flying in my home time zone, what is the best way to set the FS clock to the proper race time? Do I have to set the clock equal to the posting time of "baton is free"?Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg

I've started an FSHost session on my machine as an emergency backup now that both Gazer and Bushnet are kaput and therefore unavailable.See the private forums for connection information. Mind this is the same machine that hosts my FS, mailserver, regular webserver, and everything else so performance might be a problem if there's a lot of people online. If that happens I may be forced to restrict the number of simultaneous logins.

  10. Hi TeamBefore we start the race, there are a couple of things you need to set/check around multiplayer (no, this is not about connectivity). This has been covered before in other topics, but I think it is a good time to repeat it!First: Turn OFF "Collision with other aircraft" in the realism settings. MP is only accurate within 100 ft or so, so FS might detect a collision even if it visibly seems there is room enough. This will not affect the Duenna.Second: To help the guys that hasn't done the above, do not join a session while you're standing at the active runway. So 1) Go to Airport where the action is, then either Slew away from the active or select parking/gate from …

folks, fellas, shipmates, competition shipmates and dear friends,it's even 'worse' Geee, I'm so sorry, I really blew it this time - first 'minor' error in v2 distribution, then first patch (OK). Then decided to re-package and re-uploaded and made it worse.Rigid process of re-packaging to a v2.2 distribution now passed ! I'm in the process of re-uploading to all distribution sites."Patchin' blues":The v2 distribution contained a wrong file 'model.cfg' for the MODERN cockpit version only. That was addressed and fixed with the patch file 'P47M_P89.zip'.Then I repackaged a v2.1, thought everything was now fixed and haven't seen, that I'd included now 'interchanged' model.c…

  13. On June 30, 2004 Joe Ritchie set a world speed record in the Piaggio Avanti on a flight from Denver to Chicago. The flight took 1 hour 32 minutes and 40 seconds. Average Speed was 497.4kntshttp://www.airalpha.com/AircraftSales/Piag...%20records.aspxI found this performance astonishing as I have never been able to approach it while flying the FSD Avanti in last years race and in practice this year. I am of the opinion that the real article is capable of significantly faster flight than the FSD model. I was therefore very skeptical when the race committe said the performance of the FSD model was too fast and mandated a change in the aircraft config. That discussion can…

Hi All,Pending the return of our website, here is some more information:------------------------------------------------------------------RACE AIRCRAFT ELIGIBILITY.Each year the Committee must consider which aircraft are eligible for the Round the World Race. Our basic principles are "fun and fair" in that we want people to fly their favorite aircraft and that the process be fair for everyone. In addition, we stress realism to the extent that the race is still fun and fair.During the Race, the Committee will consider challenges. If anyone feels that an aircraft is not eligible for the race, you should submit a challenge. You should state your objection and include any rel…

Hi all-For those that may have noticed the RTW Website was down, it is now back up and is expected to remain up for the duration of the race. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by its outage.I've noted that there's been some 'grumbling' about a few rules for this year's race. This is absolutely fine! Part of what makes the RTWR great is that we exchange ideas and work together toward a consensus of what is fair.I want to make sure everyone knows that the ears and minds of the RTWR Executive Committee are ALWAYS open to pilots. We will do our level best to respond to every e-mail we get and to address any concerns that anyone has. Anyone who wants to discuss iss…

Hi all,After spending quite a few hours with Network Monitor, I must reluctantly admit that this problem can't be solved for this year's race. Oh, we could probably get all of Team Avsim running so we can all join with each other, but it only takes 1 other guy with less than desireable security settings to cause at least some people not being able to connect. So who are the unlucky ones? Well, it's the ones with the most secure systems! Their firewall will silently drop network packages deemed to be hacking attempts. But who on earth is sending these packages, then? Why, that's the same kind of systems: Highly secure, possibly more than one firewall, and they are doing al…

Team Avsim is putting out an open invite for all pilots who may be interested in participating in the 2006 Round The World Race. Phase 1 of this program will commence on Feb 10th. We will be hosting various multiplayer sessions in which new pilots will be given the opportunity to fly with some of the veterans of previous RTW's. The idea is to get to know one another, get an idea of particular strengths, and of course to have a little fun in the process. Sim-pilots who show potential (and we're hoping for many if not all)will then be asked to join in Phase 2, a series of flights that closely mimics how we are actually practicing for this upcoming event. In this area, we wi…

Hi all,Just a note about some updates to older aircraft. These updates will be eligible for the 2006 Round the World Race. The Rules state that eligible aircraft must be released and widely available two weeks before the race. However, the Rules were released only 13 days before the race and so builders might reasonably have been working on last year's one week time frame. The updates are:FDG2 (Sim Outhouse Donationware) Corsair F4U-4.: 3D model update and flight model updateAeroplane Heaven Corsair F4U-5: Flight model updateAeroplane Heaven Spitfires series: Proper conversion of Imperial Gallons to US GallonsFor these updates, go the following thread on the Sim Outhouse F…
