Has anyone tested this? The practice route has a couple of long legs coming up. I wonder what the max range is for teh P-38 with big tanks.

  2. Started by buzzbee,

I wanted to test and see how much faster I could fly the P-51 compared to the P-38. These are not scientific results. The leg was flows by auto pilot after climb was established and wheels were up. I tried to get the ascent profile to be as similar as possible using auto pilot. I hand flew the descent. The flight was over the same leg with no weather, flown at the same 25K feet altitude. The p-51 ended up this flight only about 10 minutes faser under my pilotage.

Hey gang!Ok, anyone planning to use FSX for the race (like me), post here and lets try to get a list of working aircraft/patches/tools and hint/tips for using FSX.First off the Duenna - It doesn't seem to totally work with FSX. It always reports realism + Weather as being incorrect, even if you have proper settings. Second, it always reports an overspeed at time 0.0 for me (even though I'm stopped dead when I take the baton.)To get the Duenna to work with FSX, you need to download Peter Dowdson's FSUIPC version 4.0. Just google for it.Settings-----------I seriously suggest turning autogen OFF, turn all traffic off, all other graphics settings set to whatever your machine …

Hey guys!Last night was a blast and some of the most fun I've had with FS since I picked it back up after a 12 year hiadus (before FSX, I had only very lightly dabbled with 98, 2000 and 2004, last SERIOUS flying I did was in FS2 on a C64!!!)First flight was very eventful, with me flying lead in the Shockwave P-51D. I've only just purchased this plane Friday evening, so I haven't had a lot of time in it. 1/2 way over the water at 8000 ft the engine conks out. I start panicing on Teamspeak, but you guys helped me through it. Turns out I needed to switch fuel tanks. Thankfully the engine snapped right back to life (I was worried that I'd have to do a mid-air restart and not …

  7. Hi AllTake2 - because I'm sure I posted this yesterday (some of you may have heard me say so), but now it's not there??? I've had this happen to me a number of times lately... Anyway:The old curse of getting multiplayer to work is with us again this year. Basically it is caused by people's firewall setup, and the cure last year seemed to be: Get those ports right!! Unfortunately, even that didn't cure 100% of the problems. However, there is another way: UPnp (=Universal Plug 'n Play). This feature allows programs on your PC to dynamically open ports in your firewall. UPnP is installed in XP, but is not enabled by default. To enable it, do the following: Got to Control Panel…

I have studiously avoided posting here to both stay out of your way, and to let the team work together eliminating the kinks and getting to know each other. With just shy of two weeks to go before the 2006 RTW race start, it time for us to post a note!First, let me say that we on the AVSIM staff are always amazed at the level of participation this event attracts, and we are particularly proud of those who join Team AVSIM. I cannot tell you how flattered we are that so many want to wear the AVSIM colors! And we are really humbled in knowing the hard work you will put in to this challenge, the loss of sleep, and the elevated blood pressure that all of you will suffer from d…

Ok, here's a couple questions I have about the race:1) How do we go about coming up with the route that we're going to take as a team? Does it get planned out in advance or basically does everyone just go whereever they figure will get the team farther along in the goal?2) When will the rules for this year get posted (ie, the bonuses, the corridors, etc.) ?3) Looking at last years' rules, in the bonus section, they mention a number of bonus airports and also the "alpine challenge". Was the Alpine thing something that the team had to fly as part of the around the world path, or was it something where a subset of the team was flying that challenge simultaneously with the ar…

  12. Hi all,As the Executive Committee begins our yearly rules revisions, we'd like to seek some input from the race community. One of the things we're looking at revising for the 2007 Race is the schedule of the race itself. We're doing this because in the past, we've seen teams get exhausted towards the end of the race, and people not able to participate as much as they'd like due to the race coinciding with weekday commitments. We're presently looking at 3 general categories of options for the schedule of this year's race.Option A:First, we could keep the schedule the same as in the previous races. This has the advantage of the race being run as one unit, which has the adva…

...for those who have been looking for me :DI apologize for changing my email without notification, but when you get close to 100 spam mails a day its time.If I'm racing or not this year is another question...Haven't touched FS in months now. Actually thought it was longer, but looking up some mails I found that last time I used FS was late october. Always been a fan of MMORPGs, and when World of Warcraft came I had to try it ;) And now an expansion is coming so I'll be spending a lot of time exploring new content. Not saying a definitive no to racing or helping out, but...we'll see ;)The TeamSpeak server is up and running and will be available to the team either way. 14. 2007 dawned to see the world, as ever, driven apart by conflict. Global events remind us to cherish and take full advantage of each opportunity we are given to come together. Though we may not be able to fully heal the wounds inflicted upon the world by the turmoil of history as it is made, it is our ardent hope that by coming together to share in tradition, we may for a time forget the troubles of the world and compete not as Americans, British, French, Australians, or citizens of any other country, but instead as citizens of the World. In this spirit, I am pleased to announce on the behalf of the Executive Committee of the Microsoft Flight Simulator Around-the-World Ra…

Hi all. Before we shut this place down, I wanted to put up the little video I put together for every teammember from Avsim. It's simply a rundown of the individual pilots and the machines they flew. I do hope I didn't miss anyone - if I did, it was completely inadvertant and I apologize. Please note that while it was my original intention to have every pilot mated with their signature aircraft, this was not entirely possible because:1) I have a limited library of aircraft.2) If I did so, the vast majority of this video would've been Mustangs, and there are enough of them in it already.:-lol To accomodate a variety of planes and still remain faithful, aircraft that I posses…

Hi all,Now that we've all had one good night's sleep...Might you please take a moment to write a paragraph or so about your flights. What works best is a personal reflection. Describe what was easy, what weather you had, cross-wind landings, time or fuel problems, and so forth. Maybe something about the strategic situation at that time during the race. Some flights are more interessting than others--but please add a sentence or two about even the boring ones. Wingman flights need stories as well. Add your own personality. And, please, send along screenshots. (I can edit these.) The pictures may be "artistic" but ordinary pictures are important as well: they tell a story. …

  24. Hi everyone,Might you please post here your views on how the race went this year? And what we might all do in the future?Complaints are good. Suggestions for improvement even better. We all want to have a "fun and fair" race that we can all enjoy. So please, lay out your ideas. (If we can get a discussion going, then that would be very helpful.)Thanks,Mike (and all)

  25. Okay, now that the race is over, and the screen shots and videos are posted, what should we do with the forum. I am inclined to give it another week or so, and then put it in hibernation. Not delete anything, just deactivate it until next year. Doing that will allow all the messages to stay in our archive, and the structure to exist for next year. What does everyone else think?
