We are going to work our way down to the tip of the continent and then back up. I have not visited all of these fields yet, just using google earth to pick out a route that sticks to the mountains. Some are shorter, I have no idea about lights on the fields, but we need to practice flying into places at night as well.A lot of fields are on the shorter side, so practice your slow flying skills on approach and land with as little airspeed as possible and try not to bounce. This should give us good practice at deciding to go around. In the race it is more important to go around and not crash than it is to try and save a botched approach.SCDA - SCPESCPE - SCESSCES - SCECS…

Hi all,While exchanging drafts among the Executive Committee, I inadvertently sent these documents to the entire AVSIM team. (Hit the wrong "distribution list" in MS Outlook.) Ouch! So, to keep everything equal, here is an unofficial "leak" of the current draft for the "Opening" and "Finale". Please note that this is a draft, not a final document. We may make further changes, including perhaps the location, the timing, and the format. We'll have to see. Please accept my apologies. Best,Mike MacKuen

The goal of this initial online session is to get as many people on and fly some legs, focusing on Posting and baton handoffs, wingman posts and such. I have put together a bunch of short hops up the California coast. Flights are probably going to be 15 minutes to 30 minutes long depending on what they are flown in. Smooth and speedy posting is key in the RTW as the race time is based on the forum time. We want to be as smooth and organized as possible so as to not waste time on the ground while still confirming we have valid Duenna's. We will be on AVSIM teamspeak and the RV52 Multiplayer server. Details are in the team private forums. PM me if you need assistanc…

Hello, Gents (and ladies, if any)During Mike Kopack's USA criss-cross, I heard this nasty rumour that the ** P-51 would be banned from this year's race. The reason is it's ability to run full throttle (=WEP) for as long as it takes. It is quite correct that this is unrealistic, but instead of banning it, we should approach the creator of the Duenna and see if something could be done here. For instance, if manifold pressure > 61 inches for more than 5 minutes, the flight should either be declared invalid or incur a time penalty - something like that.I really like this plane - not because it's easy to fly, but because it's hard (sorry, JFK) - and I've put a lot of time an…

Does anyone recognize the yellow frame rate display in the upper right hand corner of my screen? It is really starting to annoy me and I can't figure out what is causing it. I have tried to remove what I reinstalled last week during my rebuild and I still have it.Cheers.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183277.jpg

Hey gang, As we saw last year, the jet corridor legs can make or break the race (for those that don't know, SimOuthouse jumped into a lead position but crashed repeatedly while crossing the Atlantic on a tough landing in 747's.)I know personally I'm TERRIBLE at the big jets. Many of the racers we've had in the past tend to focus mostly on the warbirds for the non-jet legs.I'd just like to get a roll call of who feels they're good with flying the big jets and most importantly, LANDING them! Please list your name, which jets you feel comfortable in, and what your expected schedule of availability is for the race (the jet corridor flights just happen when we get to them, so …

Hamachi is a free zero config VPN. I have used it to provide remote support to family. I think it might be a solution to teh multiplayer issues (port forwarding and all of that)If anyone is available to test it, PM Me.

This thread is for posting race practice legs. For practice you should assume rules are the same as last year (2007):http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=4341&page=I propose that we try a different team routing than we used last year and attempt to use the North Pacific Corridor (Pacific-N-01).Plan route of flight to the entry point of the corridor:GCRRLERTLFHQEDCDULOOUUYYUSHHZ25PUIII (Start Corridor)UHMMUHMA

Would anyone be up for having an online session focused on flying a specific aircraft? It might be fun.

Everyone is always asking which is the fastest aircraft to fly for the RTWR.My standard answer is one which you can safely, always land in adverse conditions. Anything to avoid a crash penalty. Here were the aircraft used in the 2007 race by team and the number of legs flown (leaving out required and jet legs). I suspect we allow owe Dave Copley some money.FlightSim.comP-38L

Some people on other forum practice threads are having issues with Duenna - the first time they use it on Windows Vista.I would strongly urge you to install Duenna into a folder outside Program Files. I've learned my lesson and everything about Flight Sim on my Vista computer is installed into a folder named C:MicrosoftGamesDuenna works best when set to "Run as Administrator" and runs best in the Win XP SP2 Compatability mode. But in any case - 1. right click on the Duenna folder - FS-Addons - 2. select the security tab3. click on the Users group4. if that group does not have Full Control rights5. click Edit6. click on the Users group7. click Allow for Full Control8. click…

Hi all, and especially and admin...Confusing this race with the real race, I've begun 2 race threads. The first one is the one to use, since Mike said: "...each team will create a single thread".Therefore it is correct to do what I started out to do, and its wrong to continue under Mike's Race start thread. If I could get an admin to move those posts, I would appreciate it!Thanks,Sven Sorensen, EKCH

Go ahead and start guys... no reason we can't get started (this should give our European friends a chance to get a leg or two in today...)Since we're not flying real time it doesn't really matter when people get started.Have fun and PLEASE try to follow the posting rules so I can track this...--Mike
