I'm going to toughen things up a bit by starting a practice session across the continent of Africa. There are a lot of difficult airfields that have no navaids, are unlit with difficult runway surfaces. I'm not going to plan an exact route but i suggest we do roughly 200nm legs and choose as difficult airports as possible and at night time if possibleI'm going to start it in Gibralter LXGB and then work south.

Hi all,The Special Rules and Routing for 2008 have been posted on the RTWR website (www.fsrtwrace.com/rules.htm).I'm just formatting the FAQ now (easier said than done for an HTML novice). It will be up in a few hours.I'll also reply to this thread with text versions of the rules.Best of luck on preparations!Cheers,Matt SmithRTWR Executive Committee

Just a quick note.Reggie and I, though flying members of participating teams, are members of the Executive Committee. We have been engaged in working through lots of alternative flight plans during the last several weeks. Accordingly, we shall not participate in any strategic planning for the first 24 hours of the Race, after which the die is cast. Our participating in team planning strategy would constitute an unfair advantage. (Actually, having seen him in action, Reggie is the guy. Team Sim-Outhouse and Team AVSIM surely want him on the sidelines!)One of us needs every excuse to explain why he seems so dumb

A draft of the route we're going to fly has been posted on the private forums. Please post comments and try to fill in the areas not yet detailed. From Nome to Hong Kong everything is pretty much planned (some airports can be switched out if need be), outside that all airports listed are required except the one(s) in Europe (there another in the general area can be substituted)

I was wondering if the Bearcat and The superbear are aloud in this race. both models are available on avsim. I did some research and found that the modified Bearcat, the superbear is the worlds fastest piston powered plane in history.

Good evening fellow (competing) racers,There are 'new' .... M-1 Jugggggss 'in town'!For all those 'die hards', that don't need a nose wheel, one of the ultimate taildraggers has gone through a minor (oh well, not SO minor) revision.Check the avsim library for my latest 'creations' if interested! And good luck und "Hals- und Beinbruch" with your current practice round.Sincerely,Tom 'Gnoopey' Kohlerhttp://gnoopey.dyndns.org:8000/images/B-29/SFM-slogo.jpg--if it ain't broke, don't fix it

Hi all,In a collaborative effort from two people to whom the Race community owes a great debt of gratitude, the RTW Duenna has been updated for the 2008 Race. John Muller and Jared Smith, who have both been indispensable in orchestrating the technical aspects of the race in the past, have once again outdone themselves for the benefit of everyone involved with the race. This latest update brings several refinements to the Duenna's ability to verify flights, and will give each leg of this year's race a redoubtable mantle of credibility and verifiability. Our hope, as it has ever been with the Duenna, is to enable competitors and spectators alike to focus on the race itse…

Howdi Fellow RTW Flyahs !I have created a weather website for the purposes of setting up leg/corridor entry and exit points; these are not exact coords but radius areas that will show winds aloft, as well as last years route underneath; it should be up later tonite. In order to see the website, please join the RTW-Avsim Team forum at:http://team-avsim.weirdnet.org/It is listed in the Strategies section; I will be on the TS channels we have as well; everyone should be getting TS setup. And most important, if we have scenery downloads for the race be sure andmake that priority one; you never know about downloads !!I also hope to have a second computer online to handle weather…

More Cabin Class News. After listening to comments and suggestions, we've tweaked the upcoming Cabin Class rule in these two ways.First, the Cabin Class Handicap is now 20 minutes (rather than 15 minutes) per leg. Note that this makes the faster Cabin Class aircraft roughly competitive with the P-38L and P-51D, but not the Hornet or P-47M, over a 500nm leg. Still in place is the limit of 12 legs to which such handicap credits may be applied.Second, in response to pilots' suggestions we have added two aircraft to the qualified list. (a) Rockwell Turbo Commander 690A by Veneaviones. Available many places, including AVSIM:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&…

Lets plan on getting online this Saturday. This would be 12 noon EST here in the USA. I am putting together legs that are about 200nm to 300nm in length. In race aircraft this seems to be a good length to get a takeoff, climb to best altitude, and then manage your descent and landing. We need to run this session as close to race conditions as possible. If we can get enough people online, we will fly with wingmen. We need to have the next pilot ready to take the baton at the next airport. As we get online we will shout out and put together a list just like we do during the race so we are ready several legs out and know who is flying when and where. This will be a go…

From the Executive Committee on behalf of Matt, Mike and Ian--------------------------------------------------------------------With the MSFS Around-the-World Race set to begin in about a week - the Executive Committee would like to 'leak' one item. This year's race will offer a bonus for a landing and takeoff at the old Hong Kong Kai Tak airport. This airport is present in FS2004 and FSX listed as VHHX - however it is closed and unlighted in both versions. This was a major commercial airports. Pilots may choose to add lighting, navaids and parking spots if they wish to this airport. There are also several excellent FS2004 and a FSX AFCAD type files available for this airpor…

I regret to have to inform you guys that I am going to pull out of this years race. We're having a fairly hot summer here in Western Australia and I can't keep my rig cool enough to ensure that it won't crash inadvertently such as at a critical point during the flying of a leg. I can fly reliably for maybe an hour or so, but any longer than that and I run the risk of my CPU overheating.Anyhow, if the Roll Call thread is anything to go by then I expect that I won't be too sorely missed since there seems to be quite a few volunteers this year.I'll be watching from the sidelines and I wish you all the best of luck. Go bring that trophy home where it belongs.Mike.

Please post your availability for a practice session next weekend. Please include location and UTC time. It would be good to set up a series of short flights where we could take off, carry baton with wingman, land post and hand it off to the next person. The reason I suggest short flights is why waste time flying when we just want to practice making the exchange and posting in real time. Online and with teamspeak would be good to work out any kinks early.Next Saturday 1400 UTC works for me. 10:00 AM MTN time here in Colorado.Chime in with your feedback. Go Team AVSIM.

Posting this for Matt, who is on the road this weekend.Mike MacKuen (for Ian and Reggie as well)-----To the RTWR Community:The Executive Committee has been and remains hard at work preparing the rules for the 2008 race, which, as we have announced, will be starting in just a few weeks. We wanted to take this opportunity to pass along some information about this year's race that we feel will be valuable for you to know now, as it will affect your preparations. The first item I wanted to share is that the Duenna will be the only way to authenticate a flight this year. The Duenna gives the race community greater confidence in the compliance of other racers with the rules, b…

AVSIM Team ProceduresBelow are a set of "Team Procedures" which we have used in the past. We may need to make some adjustments to fit new rules and conditions. But the ideas and procedures here have plenty of merit.Allocating flights. In the past, the team has typically tried to coordinate flights so that everyone can fly and enjoy the experience. Normally, there will be one or two veterans present to handle the "ATC" chores. We have generally gone by the priority that those who have flown least often, and least recently, get the first crack at the baton. We also try to encourage pilots to consult with each other. (Sometimes due to time zones or other commitments, a pilot …

I got this idea to coordinate a Poker run our our multi-player equipment in Cessna Skyhawks. Land at 5 airports and draw a card. When everyone gets back to the first airport, you reveal your hand and the best hand wins.We would be on our communication channel and when you land at the airport, you call out to me the dealer and draw your card for that airport. I will Text you the card you "draw" you keep track and when you get back to the start, you post on the forum your duenna's and what your hand is.Best hand wins. Sorry no real prizes to give away. Any thoughts?
