Is anyone still out there practicing? The forum has been pretty quiet and there is just over a month to go. I am trying to generate a new set of legs to fly offline, and I would like to put together an online session where we can fly abbreviated legs and make baton transfers in real time under race conditions.Sven - How is the server coming are you around?Cheers - Hope you all had a great Christmas.

This is the leg that Sim - Outhouse had such bad luck with in 2006 that allowed FLgihtsim.com to win and AVSIM to come in a close second. All three teams were heading across the same corridor at about the same time. I recall Sim-Outhouse being in the lead when both the Baton Carrier and the Wingman failed to land on the short strip. Due to their misfortune, Sim-Outhouse had to refly that 1674nm leg again. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to fly the middle leg of this Atlantic Ocean corridor from Bermuda International to Flores and successfully land your jet on a very small patch of asphalt. Do you have the decision making ability to go around if you…

Please post your recommendations for competitive aircraft. If you have the filename and location post that as well. As always, I recommend David Copley's P-38 especially for beginners new to flying high powered, hard to handle warbirds.

I just down loaded a XF-11 looks like a p-38 but not quite the body of one it fly's pretty good. This aircraft was designed by Howard Huges. It never made it into production due to a crash that nearly killed the test pilot.

If you, like me, can't stand 4+ hour jet flights, I devised a flight plan to take us from the end of the corridor in practice #4 (NCRG) to Sydney! So let's go island hopping:NCRGNIUENFNA (this leg is pretty long, 657 nm, can be split up with a stop at NFTV or NTFL)NVVWNWWEYSNFYLHIYSSYI know (well, think) we already have to airports below S30 in this practice run, but it doesn't hurt to land at some more. I didn't check all of the airports, but some of them are unlit, for added fun

Hello Team Avsim,Finally got something put together commemorating the 2008 RTW Race and is available at http://home.comcast.net/~tmaddox3/RTW2008-Final.zip. The 16:21 minute video is 117 mB in size, but is sized to run good resolution at full screen. Good competiting with Team Avsim again during the race and look forward to the race next year. Hope you folks enjoy the video.N3306TXMike

Until the 2009 Flight Sim Round-the-world race. Over at Sim-Outhouse they are already starting their preparations. I am starting to get in RTW mode myself. How is everyone else doing? Is anyone ready to do some flying? It would be nice to bring some new participants into the fold early this year. Last year it seemed like we had some late joiners.

I propose that we use Hamachi VPN for the multi-player server for the 2009 edition of the race. Running the host on a VPN eliminates the port forwarding issues that we always fight every year.Last year we were lucky enough to have someone set up a full blown VPN for us, but that was a little tricky and required some effort on his part because of his routing set up behind his firewalls. For the last year I have been using the Log Me In Hamachi product to connect to my home servers from my office and have also been using it off and on to run my FS Host. It will give us a zero config VPN setup so that we are all flying on a Virtual Local Area Network. It does require the i…

Hi all,I'm happy to announce the start date for the 2009 RTW Race - 21 February. We've yet to zero in on a starting time, but will be working on that as we develop the rules specific to this year's race.I know there's been some confusion about this, and I apologize. This will be the final date, and we'll work to be more definite, earlier, next year.Cheers,Matt SmithRTWR Executive Committee

I am still trying to make head or tails of this. I have flown some of the legs that have been put here with no problems but I still do not know how do you know who flies which leg? I thought this was some kind of team effort? I do not even know who is on the team? I still do not know if this race is a online race or what ?I hope some one can shed a little light here :(

I'm wanting to get the private forums setup somewhere, but right now, the location is being dependent on being able to find a location to host a shoutcast server for broadcasting the teamspeak channel. (From a feasibility standpoint, it'd be easier to host both on the same server.)I know this has raised some "issues" and debate since we started shoutcasting it, so let's try to get it sorted out early... For the new team members who may not know what I'm talking about: Past couple of years, we have been connecting a designated client to our TeamSpeak channel to broadcast it to a ShoutCast streaming audio server. This allows team members stuck at work to listen in to ou…
