The London to Melbourne Challenge2009In late October 1934 the world focused its attention on a dramatic feat of aerial adventure. Accepting the MacRobertson challenge, the best aviators from around the world gathered to race from London to Melbourne. They were competing in the best aircraft that they could muster to fly halfway around the earth. Their progress was covered by newspaper and radio for a global audience and wherever the competitors landed they were greeted by huge crowds. The whole world was watching. We wish to commemorate that event. Accordingly we are conducting a simulated race from London to Melbourne under conditions similar to those of 1934. Pilots may …

Presently for my weather I use FSMeteo for FS9 and the FSX default weather for FSX. In the past I also used Cris Clouds in FS9 but since my curent upgrade to an i7 975 CPU and 64 bit system did not reinstall them. I have debated upgrading to Active Sky for years but have really never been too picky or critical relative to clouds so I have procrastinated (Something I am very good at). However, particularly with my new system one item does bug me. My home area is in West Virginia and particularly during this time of year there are a multitude of low level clouds hanging in between the mountains. The thing I don't like is that under these conditions, the clouds below make i…

Someday I want to be like Reg Green over at Sim-Outhouse. He makes some great films up at Possum lodge. FUNNY that we both take our login names from the same show.

I really liked getting to know the DC-6B through the series of flights I made in the Evita Race, so I am going to be making a series of flights in the Dreamfleet 727. I flew from my home airfield KBJC to San Diego and am now headed south to Los Cabos, Baja Mexico.http://www.fsrtwrace.com/track/ShowFlight....2XjpjtwSOBsgJhQ

I moved the server back for the time being. The Laptop BIOS did not support reboot on restoration of AC. If you do connect and fly on my server, please post a link to your Duenna Tracking on the FS RTW Page so people can see who is flying what in the Avsim Round the world Race forum.//I have moved my server to a new system. Teamspeak and FS Host are running. See the private forums for details. If you are interested in participating, send me a message and I can get you the information. We are 6 months away from defending the title and new faces are always welcome.Cheers!Buzz

Hey guys! Long time no see!Yeah, I know, I've been AWOL for a while. To be honest I haven't played around with FS in quite a while. I just got fed up with the issues with performance on my machine and had been so busy with work and school (I started Drexel University's Online CS Masters program in March while continuing to work full time at Lockheed...)Anyhow, I bought a new Mac Pro machine at the end of March and have loaded up FSX on Windows 7 64 bit on the Boot Camp partition. It's still a pretty sparse basic install, but it works pretty nicely. I still need to tweak it to get the most out of the system:Core i7 2.93 ghz Xeon, 4 core, 8 threads (hyperthreading on)8 GB R…

Well the mood has hit and I think I will be formatting and re-installing the whole mess. Going to reformat the OS drive and the Flight sim drive and reinstall everything. I have learned a lot about imaging at work and am going to keep fresh images of both so that I can avoid this in the future.Any hints or tips? I have slip streamed my XP disc with Service Pack 3 and am just checking to make sure all of my Payware installers are backed up on the FreeNAS. Anyone want to join me? I did not do this last year before the race and had a crash while carrying the baton. Cheers!

Hey guys,I was wondering if anyone was up for some fun flying? Maybe doing some formation flying and the like i've kinda been toying with the idea of getting like a Flight Demo team together or something and thought this might be a good chance to hang out with some folks again.I'd be willing to set up a Teamspeak account or we could use skype. Any thoughts?

It has come to our attention that someone is attempting to sellThe Tornado Trophy. As yet there is no determination if this is a scam, or a devious way to raise funds for website recovery & upgrades, or whether someone has broken into a trophy case and appropriated this magnificent artifact for personal gain http://www.gasolinealleyantiques.com/trans...ed.htm#AVIATIONReally nice 1939 figural GAS AIRPLANE Contest Trophy. near mint to mint. side view. 395.00 Click on the "Gas Airplane" link to viewAny information would be appreciated. Hey Guys, How are you all doing this Summer/Winter (July/August) ? I just got back from EAA in KOSH and thought i share a few pics of the birds we flew during the race. Here's the one that kicked my rear-end.. The DH.88 Comet. The replica was built by the late Bill Turner in 1993 and owned by Tom Wathen based at the Flabob airport in Riverside Ca. The construction was done exactly (sans safety/instruments) as the original although the engines are different, Gypsy Queens (210hp) instead of Gypsy 6s (223hp). There was a rep from DH England who provided all the research for the replica build. I talked him and the pilot about the flying qualitites and ground handling and whe…

Last night Western Air began moving one of it's Dizzy 6's to Montreal for the upcoming commercial challenge to open up consistent and reliable air routes to Argentina. Performance was by the numbers and navigation was flawless. Crew needs to work on better descent planning as flight was a little high on final. The Calclassic DC-6B is a lot of fun to fly. Learning the NDB Navigation and the proper care and feeding of the internal combustion engines is critical to get the best performance.Check out the flight information via the Duenna Race tracking:Buzzbee's DC-6B flight data

Congratulations, AVSIM on your RTW 2009 win. N3306TX Productions has released a short video commemorating the RTW 2009 Race. The video can be found at . You can also visit my homepage http://home.comcast.net/~tmaddox3/ and click on the Flightsim.com Multiplayer Adventures Event Promotional Video Link for a better and larger (80 mb)copy. RedGreen also did a excellent job this year on the debut of the RTW 2009 video (http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=244956) from PLP. This was going to be his year for the debut and he didn't let us down. As expected, every PLP production gets better with each release and this was no exception this year. Some of us know what i…

Sad to say but I think the Avsim victory in the RTW race came at a cost. I missed out on the weekend celebration flight because of computer issues, and it looks like one of the RAM slots on my mobo has failed. I am limping along right now with only half of my memory installed, but if I want to keep simming on it I'm going to have to do better than the current 1GB of RAM. I suppose winning doesn't come without sacrifice eh :).I guess we can all be consoled by the fact that this comptuer "died" doing what it loved, and what it was originally built for: flightsimming.Looks like the only elegant way out of this situation is to get a new mobo and along with it a new CPU and…

Team Avsim participants arrived at Launceston just as the eastern horizon was beginning to lighten. The chill in the air sobered the mood of the team, and members shared a little jocular banter to relieve their apprehension. We waited in the dark ready to begin our long ordeal, and took advantage of an opportunity to save some endangered wildlife from the brink of extinction. The team took off in every direction to collect their endangered passengers, and before long two members were on their way to Melbourne with these animals, and the beginning of the race in earnest.

Here are the pics I took during the RTW race."First leg": I joined in the leg crossing from Brazil to Africa. I didn't have an Epic LT so I trailed (reeeeeeaaaaalllly trailed... I arrived about 2hrs after the baton!) behind in my PC-12.(leaving Brazil behind us in the night, a long flight ahead)(PC-12 flight deck. You can see Africa just coming into view on the MFD)My first leg as wingman: DRRN to DAAT. My first "official" leg in the race. I flew wingman for Jockha in the King Air 350. Not a cloud in the sky over the Sahara.(Climbing out of DRRN)(After a couple hours over the flat desert, I finally saw some topography as I descended to DAAT)(Safely down at DAAT)The n…

Well the final flight of the RTW race has occured. The mission? Return all the animals we picked up last Saturday and return them to their Island home. All the varmints checked out OK @ YMEN Melbourne Zoological society. So, many of the race participants showed up to help. (21 of us) At first it was tough, MP & TS server was buckling, but after a quick switch to the WestCoastATC.com servers (THANK-YOU!) the flight got underway. It was a little tough flying with frame rates hovering around 4-6 FPS, landing was worse... Bounce----wait---Bounce---wait more---Bounce---wait---Bounce etc... Good thing crash was turned off, rules not enforced ;-) ! I have to sign off now…
