AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum

Every spring AVSIM team members compete in one of the most exciting events in flight simulation; the Around the World Race. This forum is for those who are interested in the annual event, would like to participate, for the team members to stary in touch with each other throughout the year.

Hi all-To clarify: The Duenna will NOT be required in this year's race. It will be an optional method for pilots to confirm their flights, and, depending on how well things go this year, we may require it next year (emphasis on may).Hope this cools the debate down some. (Though it's great to see the enthusiasm!)Kindest Regards-Matt SmithOrganizerMSFS RTW Race

  2. Evidence of Flight Screenshot Tutorial With PicsOk, I did some testing of many scenarios involving the Flight Analysis Screen with FS9.The first thing you need to know is how to take a screen capture. Details are best already explained in the screenshot forum here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=83146&page=1) When you fly, I suggest you use the Flight Planner Function within FS9 which will show your route of flight. before you take off, take a look at your Flight Analysis Screen and you will see a Magenta Line. This is your flight path as loaded by the flight planner function.2) Once you complete your flight, DON'T EXIT THE SIM until you get your scr…

Hi everyone,The 2005 Round the World Race is now two weeks away. It will begin at 1700Z on Sunday, February 20, 2005.The Official Rules will be published 24 hours before the Race Time. There will be modest changes in the rules, eliminating some loopholes, but the main routines will remain much the same. There will, however, be an interesting surprise or two.The exception to releasing the Official Rules on Race Weekend is posted below. Several designers are currently producing aircraft that they expect to release about Race Time. It will be useful for those designers to understand the parameters under which the Race will be run.-------------------------------Aircraft Requi…

We want to keep the baton in the air. That means that we try to have someone at the destination airport waiting, with engines warmed up and flight plan filed, ready for the arriving teammate. 11. I have been having a problem connecting to Bushnet- sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. After reading many forums postings, it seems that this is a common problem - and the only reasonable answer I can find is that,in FS2004,it is essential that players lower their FPS to no more than 20 when on multiplayer - because of the way in which data is transmitted across the Internet at the same rate as your FPS.Regards Barry

Ideas on Rules For the Race Thread:These are Compiled from the pinned thread. They are meant as to further define what types of aircraft should be allowed or excluded and other ideas as to the running of the race. The final arbiter of rules is Matt Smith. It is he and he alone that decides what flies and what don't. But since suggestions were made, We can list them here, refine them, and I will forward them to Matt. Please comment on these by listing the number IE #3, and then refining any clarifications, etc..Once this has been up for a while, say a week or so, I will forward them to Matt on behalf of Avsim. Please keep the spirit of the race in mind as you comment, as …

I was just wondering why you are starting the race on a Sunday. It looks like to me that it would be better to start it on a Friday evening. This way more people would be off work and able to participate. People could plan on making it an all weekend event. If you start on a Sunday, a lot of people would miss out come Monday due to having to go to work. Just a thought.Hawk

  19. I just love my Antonov 14. It's one of the few a/c that you fly only from the VC - why is that , you ask? Well, It doesn't have a a 2D cockpit. Trouble is that it probably isn't the ideal a/c for a race -- a bit slow really - maybe 120 knots if I push it. BUT - I can land it in about 100 metres. It's the king of STOL. Not one of those demo sports STOL thingos - this is a real a/c!I think that maybe this may be the secret this year that beats the Flightsim and the Sim-Outhouse mob - specialise on the Antonov 14. We could fly a route that concentrates on very short airstrips. That way we could fly a route that the others couldn't follow. The Sim-Outhouse mob will concentrat…

I am hoping to fly a leg of the race and think that I may fly it using the Bushnet (using Teamspeak) . The AVSIM Bushnet is a vastly under-used and easy-to-use resource. I know that a few people simply connect to the Bushnet whenever they fly because it is so easy -- but nevertheless, I have not found that to be a particularly satisfying experience as I usually fly alone and don't even get to have default AI traffic. But in the case of this race, I believe that it could be used - if the powers-to-be at AVSIM consider that the server could handle the load. Anyway, I would find this to be a far more pleasurable way to go than VATSIM.I guess if others wanted to fly with VATSI…

Can we please work on ZULU time? Personally, Eastern time means nothing to me unless we are referring to AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). The Military around the world work on ZULU time -- it would be impossible to work to some local US time zone when flying in other time zones . All time zones have a relationship with ZULU time which all Fsimmers should/must? be aware of and able to use.Regards Barry

And on the way we shall enjoy handling a few airmanship challenges. Landing at Nankina airstrip “on top of the world” We begin with an early morning departure from Aiyura Airport [AYAY, AYU] located near Ukarump village. This is the location of the Aiyura National High School, the Aiyura Agricultural Research Statio…
