  1. Started by Ron Attwood,

If anyone is not completely sated flying wise and in the absence of any alternatives I offer you a trip round glorious islands set in a shimmering sea....You get the idea. No Skyvector. FSX FLIGHT PLAN I'll suggest the Ryan Navion by LDR Developments. A freeware aircraft that, if you don't already have it, will surprise you by it's quality. DOWNLOAD it HERE (click 'Download' top right corner) I've made a couple of paints for it: HERE and HERE I shall be using another paint for it which I'm just putting the finishing touches to. That's all Folks!

To kick-off the MacRobertson Modern Era event I decided to attempt the full MacRobertson in one using the PMDG Boeing 777LR. I started the flight last night and flew up to cruise altitude before heading off to bed. When I checked the status of the flight in the morning everything was running fine in the sim, but the Duenna had disconnected. I reconnected Duenna and got some red indications but the tracking site continued to show progress. I then left for work. When I came home this evening the flight was paused at Top of Descent as planned, but the Duenna had disconnected from FSX again. I reconnected the Duenna, un-paused the sim and started my descent and l…

London Melbourne Rules Final Draft Release The Spring Event Team is happy to publish the final draft of the London Melbourne Race Rules. This "draft" is meant to be the final rendition of the rules. However, we understand that there may be some confusing parts and perhaps some glitches in the rules. Please take a look and let us know about any clarifications, corrections, or improvements that you might see. If possible, we would like to take advantage of your help. In addition, the White List of eligible aircraft might not include the particular aircraft that you want to fly. If not, let us know. This final draft is likely to be very close to the official version …

Iceland Tour, Part 1 In my absence from last weekend's fun in the Alps, apparently I was volunteered to put up a flight plan for Iceland this coming weekend (serves me right for missing a week!). So here we go. This flight will be considerably enhanced by the use of the free Orbx FTX Global Iceland Demo scenery (link below), although this is not required. All airports are included in FSX default scenery. The tour will start at Reykjavik Airport (BIRK). This is not the main international airport for Iceland, which is at Keflavik about 40 miles away, but a smaller field in central Reykjavik for domestic routes and GA traffic. We will head first to the Vestmannae…

In case there's no flight plan for Saturday, I offer, for your consideration, something of a departure from the U.S of A. Check it out Orbx Global is recommended. I have been a bit tentative with the route but I'll fly it in the week and see if it needs tweaking (God! Where have I heard that before?)

  6. Orbx PNW Tour, Oregon Leg 4, Central Oregon Cascades This week's leg is a comprehensive tour around the central Cascade Mountains in Oregon, a spectacular mixture of pine forests, volcanic mountain peaks and high desert. We start where we finshed last week at Bend/Redmond airport and finish at the resort community of Sunriver, which conveniently boasts its own airport. This leg will be low on airfields to land at ('cos there aren't many!) but high on scenic value. Leaving Bend/Redmond (KRDM) we will have a quick check of our landing skills at the high desert airstrip at Gopher Gulch (OR29) just outside the town of Bend (NOTAM: don't overshoot the runway or you'r…

  7. Orbx PNW Tour, Oregon Leg 3: Southern WA / Northern OR Cascades The theme for the next two legs of the tour will be the Cascade Mountains. We'll pick up our aircraft where we left off at The Dalles, work our way round the principal peaks of southern Washington and northern Oregon, and finish this leg at Bend/Redmond airport. Taking off from The Dalles (KDLS), we head directly for our first high peak, Mt Adams, followed by a circuit of the volcanic landscape around Mt St Helens, well-known from its eruption in 1980. We then visit two small airstrips in southwest Washington, Walter Sutton's (WA79) and Goheen (W52). We now cross the Columbia River Gorge again, stop…

Just between us, I've gone back to Opus for my weather. I've given ASN a fair crack of the whip but I'm afraid the call of Opus was too strong. Let the p*ss taking begin. I'm a big strong boy, I can take it!

  11. I've been asked to guide a scenic flight, starting from KORS, Orcas Island, Sep 13. Here is a teaser for what awaits you (Ron, I'm counting on the server delivering fine weather!) http://vimeo.com/53986934 Some freeware airports that will enhance the flight: Stuff 4FS - CYCD (2012) Stuff 4FS - CYYJ (2014) And if you are looking to spend money, Victoria+ by Jon Patch is really nice.. http://www.jonpatch.ca/flightsim/

  15. Orbx PNW Tour, Leg 2: the Willamette Valley and Columbia River Gorge As I wasn't around for last Saturday's fun and games, I'm making the assumption that you're expecting Leg 2 of the Oregon tour for this weekend. If you guys came up with something else you'd rather do on Saturday that's no problem, this can wait till you want to do it. The theme for this second leg of our tour is the valley and the gorge. We'll head north up the Willamette valley, cross the city of Portland, then fly east up the Columbia River Gorge. We restart our tour where we left it at Hobby Field in Creswell (77S). The first leg will be a short hop to Jasper Ridge Airstrip (36OR), jus…

Just a heads-up. In October 2014, the Spring Events Team will be hosting another run of the London-Melbourne MacRobertson Challenge. This is the 80th anniversary of the actual event and we look forward to the experience. The setup will be similar, but not identical, to that of the 2009 event: two classes (Golden Age and Modern General Aviation), two competitions (Speed Race and Handicap Race), use real weather but fly on your own time. To gain a sense of how things might work, you can download the 2009 London-Melbourne Rules here. Note: Please post any questions or comments in the SOH thread. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...663#post898663 Hope to have you all a…

Ad hoc? Well not quite. But I have managed to secure a contract for delivering packages and passengers from Roseburg(KRGB) to some outlying airstrips. To fulfil this contract I have obtained a fleet of Piper Cubs from A2A. It will work like this: Take one passenger + 20lbs of packages to 170R, drop the pax off + 4lbs of 'produce'. carry on to the next four stops delivering the same amount until all your deliveries have been made. At 600R pick up a new passenger. Return to Roseburg and reload with 18lbs of 'produce' (6lb for each call) and dropping your passenger off at 16S Myrtle Creek.Return to Roseburg empty. If there is time we may be required to collect a group…

After taking off from Bowerman (KHQM), a well-known airport to most Orbx afficionados, we head south along the coast before meeting the mouth of the Columbia River, where we land at Astoria Regional Airport (KAST). From Astoria we continue south along the coast past the small resort towns of Seaside and Cannon Beach before turning a short distance inland, to our next stop Tillamook (KTMK), although…

  21. Hello Gents, I thought I'd share this with you, a little story from over the weekend. A life changing event! As you know I missed Saturdays flight due to a little volunteering work while EAA's B-17 had a tour stop in Green Bay. Long days (9:30 - 5:00, Fri - Sun) as it was hot out but with a nice breeze. No problem!! I ended up doing ramp safety and security which was cool. (slightly cooler under the wing LOL) On Saturday many of the volunteers bugged out at about 2:00 and we were left with a minimum crew. Sunday's roll call was even less and for a few hours we had a skeleton crew until a few phone calls were made to get 2 more volunteers. It was a good thing the…

  23. Rocky Mountains Leg 2 - Sun and Moon This Leg of the Rocky Mountain tour will transport the group from Yellowstone to the mountain strips of Idaho. Admiring the beauty of Jackson Hole, we take off from KJAC heading for the Snake River Basin and the mountain strips of Idaho. We first pick up the Snake River, the 1,078 mile long river that drains much of the Central Rocky Mountains and empties into the Colombia just east of the Colombia River Gorge. The Snake originates in the hills of …

  24. We depart from Red Lodge (KRED) to follow the majestic Beartooth Highway over the Beartooth mountains. The first set of waypoints (Y_BEAR1 – Y_BEAR4) show the way through the valley and up onto the pass. We shall have to climb to 11,000 feet to clear the terrain. We then descend to Luckinbill Airstrip (WY06), a rough grass field with a line of trees just south of the strip. (Careful pilots of fast aircraft may wish to execute a touch-and-go or simply a low flyover.) Bearing sharply north after takeoff, we proceed along US Route 212 in the valley of the Clark Fork of the Yellowstone River [Y_CLARK]. And then turn southwest over Cooke City [Y_COOKE] and into the Lamar …
