Australian Tour 2: Surf and Turf Here we enjoy the semi-tropical intersection of Queensland and New South Wales. We start at the recreational airport Watts Bridge and make our way to the coastline and Moreton Island before turning back over the metropolitan Brisbane area. We then continue out to the Scenic Rim at Boonah before returning to the popular beaches of Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast. Finally we head southward to the alluring laid-back experience of Byron Bay and then land at Ballina. The highlights here include five classic grass turf airfields, Brisbane's working harbor, international airport, and central city, as well as miles of great surfing beaches…

  2. Australian Tour 1: Cattle, Coal, Sugar and Sand Here we explore the central coast of Queensland. We start in Rockhampton, Australia's "Beef Capital." We fly through the great coal port Gladstone and the heart of sugar cane country in Bundaberg. In between, we pop out to see Lady Elliot Island, an exquisite coral island at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. We end visiting the tourist cities of Hervey Bay and Maryborough while circumnavigating Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world. All along, we experience different parts of the Tropical North, with its mixture of agriculture, mineral extraction, and tourism. Routing We…

A day of island flying in the Torres Strait. This is a warm water excursion over the coral-reef-studded sea that, for a full century, was a center of the world's pearling industry (from 1860-1970). The Torres Strait Islanders are a Melanesian people who speak their own languages. In modern times, the islanders have been important both for manning the pearling industry as well as serving as pilots for ships navigating the treacherously shallow Straits. The islands themselves (of which 14 are inhabited) are at risk to the ocean's rising sea levels. In fact, some islands are peaks of an existing land bridge between New Guinea and Australia, a land bridge that was submerg…

Caribbean Holiday. The Mustique Mystique The last two weeks we have traveled from San Juan through the Virgin Islands, Sint Maarten, Saint Barthélemy and Saba. Then St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Dominica and Martinique. Now we shall continue down the Antilles. Rum shops, cricket ovals, luxury resorts and always bright sunshine and crystalline blue waters. Someone has to do this job. Aircraft. Something that would be suitable for a Caribbean vacation. This week we fly two different types. First, pick a fast General Aviation aircraft such as a Lancair IVP, Beech Duke or Duke Turbine, Cessna 340 or 404, Pilatus PC12, Beech King Air,…

  5. Leaving the base at Mount Hagen (AYMH) [Orbx], we fly the Central Highlands' valleys to Wapenamanda (AWYD) [Orbx], one of the two towns in Enga Province. Then we leave westwards for Kairik (KRK) [PIS-only], the mountainside airfield for the Pogera Mine which is now the world's largest gold mine outside of South Africa. Next is the newish Frieda River Project's airstrip (FRR) [PIS-only freeware] on the lower slopes of the Highlands. Here the gold and copper deposits promise the financial successes of Pogera and Ok Tedi but their extraction also threatens the environmental risks associated with those well-established mines. Then we climb south over the mountains to Tel…

Caribbean Holiday. A Winter's Escape Down the Lesser Antilles Last week on Day One, we flew from San Juan through Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Sint Maarten, Saint Barthélemy, and stopped at Saba. Now we shall continue. A bit of sunshine and blue waters and a sip of rum or maybe a margarita after the flights. Good times. Aircraft. Something that would be suitable for a Caribbean vacation. We have flown the BN Islander and DHC-6 Twin Otter as well as a Cessna 182 and Beech Bonanza. Maybe something with a speed between 120 and 170kts. Whatever you please. The Route. Day Two. We start again from Sint Maarten (TNCM) and head for the glittering play…

With the race over with its time to turn to the Duenna and its future. With that, I ask for ideas from the people who use it. What would you like see implemented, what problems do you have with it, what could be better for you or your team? I welcome all ideas as I work to improve this useful tool we've grown to use over the years? You can express your ideas here or at the Duenna 2.0 forums here : http://www.fsrtwrace.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19 Thanks

After that marathon, maybe we can rekindle a little enthusiasm. How many of you are up for some Caribbean R&R? A nice leisurely jaunt from San Juan, Puerto Rico to St Maarten. Stopping off at 'islands, various' and not forgetting St. Barthelemy and Saba I doubt there's anyone here that isn't familiar with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCT7IA9fHXM Flight plan: Aircraft=Please yourself Scenery=Fly Tampa's St. Maarten complete (includes the three islands) wouldn't come amiss. The race has been in progress over 24 hours now, and the teams have traveled over 11,500 miles each so far. You can check out each team's progress here at fsrtwrace.com. Lots of interesting happenings, with the teams tracking very closely up until a recent marked divergence by Flightsim. It will be very interesting to see how it all turns out. Jeff and I recently had a very interesting experience flying from Port-au-Prince to Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuela. I'm sure it would have been a wonderful flight under normal circumstances, but Jeff and I encountered one of the worst thunderstorm fields I have ever experienced in my years of flightsimming. We …

Folks, Use this thread to state the weather you intend to use for the 2015 RTWR. Per the rules: iii. Weather Settings You must fly using Real-World Weather. You may use the default Jeppesen weather engine, or you may use an appropriate version of one of the following addon weather engines: Active Sky, FS Pilots Global Real Weather, Opus and the freeware FSrealWX. You must declare your weather engine of choice before the race and stick with that choice throughout the race. Teams should post the pilots' choices for all to see.

So hopefully we can garner some interest in it again. Callsign Eamonn Flightsim Version FSX Experience in Flightsim If it has wings I can fly it. Timezone ( +/-UTC ) UTC-4 (AST)

It started out with joy in mind, the day after Christmas. I looked at the winds aloft and said to myself - self, "With these winds it would be a good idea take up the 'ol "H" up and see if I could bust a 500 knot run over 600 miles, besides it's been almost a year since she's been handled." I had 130 knot tail winds at times! There are some huge troughs and ridges over Earth right now that lead to substantial winds aloft! The next day started, I looked at the weather again - Phenomenal! It came into mind to take some of the "primaries" up for a haul, just to get some stick time and take 'em wherever the winds take me. I followed the winds right, and of all places, …

Okay all, I need a couple volunteers to test the updated Duenna. 2 or 3, just let me know and I'll PM you a link to the updated duenna. You do NOT have to uninstall the previous version in fact you can run them side by side. IF one of the volunteers has Prepar3d than even better. I will need you guys to try to break it, do unusual things with it and let me know what happens. Mr John Mueller was kind enough to send me the source code, however the original was written in Visual Basic V6 which was released in 1998. Since I personally do not have VB6 and John sent me a partially updated package to Visual Studio 2005, I have updated it using Visual Studio 2013 which …
