How's about a trip around/across/up/down Tasmania? It's Orbx, it's free and the weather isn't too bad this time of year. Tasmania demo and the freeware airport, Launceston (right underneath BOB) Something to think about maybe.

Just a note that the current Orbx sale (June 15) includes the North American regions of Central and Northern Rockies for $11.71 each. (After today, the sale is slightly diminished.) Many will already have these packages -- those who have eschewed a purchase have a bargain opportunity. Flying the Rockies might be an interesting focus for further aviation wanderings.

Gents, It seems like every year when the race ends all I want to do is go home. Get there, rest, relax, have a night cap etc.. Every year I do do it. It could be months later etc.. This time I did not forget about the pertinent things. Other years just about all was just about lost. (Duenna records, pics etc..) http://fs-duenna.com/flights/ShowFlight.php?detail=flight&value=GTjY3OzMcQKDO15A9rexC7opIEk The flight itself had some hiccups. I started off leaving URSS going in the wrong direction, on purpose. Took the 777 into a polar route trying to take advantage of the so called "Polar Vortex" going west --> east. Didn't work. The flight itself …

Just in case you haven't seen it, Milton Shupe and Ed Wells have released an updated FSX package (and FS2004, separately) for the ABC F8F-2. Details for the FSX version can be found here. It looks like they tweaked the .air file a little (with explanation), but hopefully the Committee will approve it. I'm sure the updates to appearances inside and outside will be welcome (and one could always use the older .air file for the race, I suppose).

  15. I noticed that the Lionheart aircraft (download versions) are on sale this weekend at Just Flight in a " 2 for £12 / €15 / $19" deal. I think I might take the opportunity to pick up the Epic LT at a large discount, as I know a number of team members have it as an alternative to the Avanti for high altitude prop race legs (I know about the 31,000ft hard ceiling!). I thought I'd post here in case anyone else on the team would like to take advantage of the sale too. However, I'm not sure what to pick with it. I think I'm leaning towards the Quest Kodiak, but I'm open to anything that is considered a good model. Does anyone have any of the other Lionheart aircraft, do…

  17. I have not seen official confirmation yet, but I think congratulations are in order! To all of the AVSIM RTW Team - congratulations on one of the most nail biting flights in the memory of this event. You started out with a significant deficit and through persistence and your "can do" mindset, you won the race. This makes AVSIM the winner of 50% of the races held since 2003; 6 out of 12. That is an enormous accomplishment and says a lot about the team, sticking together and persevering. You have bragging rights again guys! Thanks for participating and thanks for representing AVSIM. You did a fantastic job!

  20. Michael MacKuen made the following announcement just before 1500 EDT today. Closest Race Ever Concludes in a Dramatic Finish over the Black Sea (Wednesday, February 19, 2014) The 2014 Round the World Race was completed on Monday night with the three teams racing over the Black Sea into Sochi's URSS. After racing for fifty eight continuous hours, the end of the race was the closest ever. Team AVSIM finished at Sochi first but was carrying thirty five minutes' more penalty time as Team FlightSim and Team Sim-Outhouse came barreling in over the sea. Everyone was watching the clock and the visual flight tracker and the clock again – while trying to estimate whether…

  21. Started by MM,

We are asking for suggestions to improve the Round the World Race for 2015. For the last few days, we have all be talking with each other and several good ideas have been part of the discussion. It would be great to keep track of those ideas – not to lose them over the summer. Of course, not everyone has the same tastes so we should be especially keen on a variety of views. Would you please be so kind as to join in by posting your ideas on the FSRTWRace forum in the General Lounge here: http://www.fsrtwrace.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4. Look for the topic "Suggestions for RTWR 2015". Thanks for your help. Mike, Rob and Ed

The race started well with an Avanti leg from Sochi (URSS) to Turkmenbashi (UTAK) by Mike G, followed by a Bearcat run to Mary (UTAM) by Roman. I took the baton at that point heading to OPMI. I had good tailwinds and had good speeds on the 1.5 hr leg. The descent and approach were normal. Crossed the threshold at 130, speed decayed to 124 at touchdown then CRASH. What happened, probably a tail strike. Duenna with the red border of shame
