Team, Last night I experienced a catastrophic PC failure. The waterpump failed, my CPU overheated, and the system will no longer boot. :( I have started the computer replacement process but it will likely be two to three weeks before I am back in business (hardware wise) and that does not incude rebuilding my FSX software configuration. Ughh! Not looking forward to that. I hope to be operational in time to participate in the race. Until then, I will have very limited access to the internet and will not be able to participate pre-race preparations this year.

Here are some screen shots from the past week 'n a half or so. Prior to that my FSX install went belly up. Anyway, had FS9 installed as a "gauge development IDE" and,, with enough cash invested to build my own aeroplane with the purchases for FS9, took the HD from the file cabinet and installed the FS9 addon goods while the FSX physical drive got unplugged, not before getting mirrored as a "Race" backup on a different drive. (Very much un-trusted for the race) The thing about running FS9? With a computer "capable" of a good FSX system results in 130+ FPS (With all sliders to 11) in FS9. Multiplayer etiquette says i better turn it down to 1 from 11. So. Is t…

  5. Proposing a "full on", time critical, baton transfer practice session this weekend. Also an idea to throw out, run 2 or 3 separate practice sessions at the same time such as 1 running at night in the pacific northwest, another running in daylight around Norway and maybe a third who knows where... B) and vice versa etc. This way we can get full pilot participation without the wait. Transfer post critiquing, post confirmations by teammates, posting checklists etc to be on the menu. Discuss among-st yourselves

Hi guys, EAA and the Sport Aviation magazine has a nice little article about the tiger kitty in this months issue, publicly available here. I can tell you from this past convention that the sound from the 'cat is so nice! Probably get jeers from this but it sounds much better than the Merlin in the P-51s! It seems to perform better too, climbs like a rocket! When the 51s had to bank out of a climb to keep up airspeed the 'cat just kept going & going & going. (Just like the energizer bunny  ) Below are some pics I took this year, (that turned out) it really is a cool looking plane. Thought I'd …

  8. Race Administration This year we shall continue with the same Race Administration that we practiced last year. Happily, Eamonn Watson has volunteered to again serve as the RTWR Technology and Communications Officer. We are all thankful to Eamonn for his excellent innovations and terrific website. Importantly, the administration of the rules will be conducted by the Racing Committee which is comprised of six members, two from each of the teams. We ask that the veterans on each team develop a process and then select two Racing Committee members to serve for the 2014 Race. The selection of two members reduces the burden of service for any single pilot. We ask…

AVSIM Forum Availability Issue The race general rules state: The baton may be claimed and relinquished only through each team’s official public forum. Pilots must relinquish the baton upon completing a leg. Upon successfully completing a leg, the baton holder must post a message in the forum In the past six months there have been a number of times when AVSIM forum users have had difficulty connecting which have been discussed in the forums here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/429340-forum-slow/?hl=%2B0900+%2B1000+%2Butc#entry2885021 http://forum.avsim.net/topic/429340-forum-slow/?hl=%2B0900+%2B1000+%2Butc#entry2885021 If the Avsim forums are not availabl…

  11. I just made a discovery that might be useful to know for those of you running FTX Global. I was warming up for a practice leg into NZKK, and while scouting this airfield I noticed that at night, there were what appeared to be several large bright lights just before the threshold of rwy 15. I flew a practice circuit, and when coming in to land, FSX registered an aircraft crash as I passed near one of these lights. This would make it very difficult to fly a correct approach to this runway. I remembered that I was running FTX Global with the Vector Road Lights option ticked, and wondered if this might have been the problem. So I opened up FTX Central and switched…

  12. RTWR Team Members, I propose that we get together on the AVSIM teamspeak server to discuss issues and ideas regarding the upcoming race. I encourage any new members to attend if possible so that you can meet the team and get a feel for how we collaborate in a group setting. If the proposed date/time is a problem, please propose an alternate and we can arrive at a consensus. In addition to some strategy and planning topics that I will not mention in this public post there is an important issue we need to discuss. Hi! I'm a little new to this site, so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this... Back when I was a kid/young teen, I was into MSFS 2000. I started off following the Microsoft Flight Simulator Team's Around the World flight that started and ended at Meigs Field, but real life pulled me away from MSFS for awhile, and now that I've been able to get back into flight simulation, the instruction articles have long since been taken down. I'd like to finish what I started, as I already had made it more than halfway around (I was partway finished with Leg 13 of 22--the one that starts in Italy). I know someone somewhere still has the route information (or at…

Hi all Just to let you know that the VPN thingy is online and may be reached in the usual way on <see private forum>..Note that this is a dynamic IP address UFN, and so you will be disconnected at least once every day. If we decide to use this setup again this year, I'll go ahead and get a fixed IP adress for the race. Let me know what you think. .. Brgds Sven Sendt fra min GT-I9300 med Tapatalk

Welcome Michael, Just a very quick post here. We have not started practice yet (possibly not till Jan.) but one thing you can do is familiarize yourself with the RTRW Race Rules. In Appendix C of the "2012 Special Rules" you will see an "White List for Eligible Race Aircraft"... aircraft permitted for the race. Some other things you can / will need to do: Install the Duenna software to track your flight during the race (you will use to post validating the flight). you will (essentially) need Teamspeak so we can chat for flight testing and comms during the race. First, we are pleased to announce that the 2014 Round the World Race will commence, as is traditional, on the first weekend after Valentine's Day. This year we shall start on Saturday, February 15, and probably earlier in the day than usual. Second, we want to announce that Ed Keller will take the Austin Davis seat on the RTWR Executive Committee. Importantly, we want to express to Austin our deeply-felt appreciation for what he has done for the race both during the last year on the Committee and also during many previous years as well. Ed will bring to the table both new perspectives and a great enthusiasm for the RTWR itself. Third, we are considering an expande…

As we all know, the race always starts the weekend after Valentine's Day, February 14th... This year, that would make the race start on Saturday, February 15th, if you look it "by the book". However, many might consider Friday part of that weekend (and could therefore interfere with "Valentine's Weekend" plans for some), which would place the race start the following weekend, February 22nd. Any word on which of these weekends the race will happen?

  18. I have decided to tow my A2A Boeing Stratocruiser out of the hangar and begin a trip around the world. I will be posting my progress in this thread with the occasional screenshot. Anyone is welcome to join in their own RTW (Round The World) adventure. Choose a plane, plan a route, and start flying. Propliner too slow, you could choose the Concorde for your RTW journey and cut your time committment way down. This journey will not require period navigation techniques. I have updated the autopilot to allow it to follow the FSX flight plan for each leg. This will permit me to perform the longer legs over night and unattended during the cruise phase of flight. …

The Fall Event Team is happy to announce The Transcontinental. This is a live real time race running coast-to-coast from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Set in the late 1940s, the main aircraft are World War II surplus fighters (specified in a White List). The structure of the event will require several refueling stops. Solo entries are fine, multimember team entries may be even better. The start time is at 0800 PDT (1500 UTC) on Saturday October 26, 2013. The event will take about six hours from start to finish. European and North American pilots should be able to make the event's timing. Pilots with limited free time may participate on a team while making a…

Hi Gents, Hope you'all are having an excellent summer / winter - "Highmike" . Well, it comes around about this time of year that worlds busiest airport gets changed from ? to my little neighborhood - Oshkosh (KOSH) & the EAA convention. The past few years our 'ol competitor, FS-MP, has hosted a fly-in using the published VFR procedures to get there. Do you all want to get on MP at one time for one, or more, short VFR flights from ? to EAA? (60- 100 nm --> KOSH) Get together, and, try to get the controllers flustered? Kiddin - the more the merrier! FS-MP is quite a bit different than our race style setup - No TS & No FSHost, it uses the internal FSX M…
