This is the AVSIM 2019 Around-the-World Race Official Thread. The Executive Committee will make the Start Post below and then it is to be used for the Baton (and Wingman) posts and other required information. Please do not make any entries in this thread until the Race begins. Please remember to set up your Duenna with a check mark on "Enable online flight tracking" and pick the proper event: "2019 RTW Race Official Tracking". You also need to use the "Baton-carrier or wingman" check box if flying in that role. Best of luck to all the teams and pilots in this year's race! Good luck and safe flying! 👍 The RTWR Executive Committee

This is Race Week and we need to do some organizing. We want to maintain our tradition of the pilots' regulating the race. And that means that we need to have the teams elect three pilots who can serve on the Racing Committee (and as the Officer of the Day). Formally, we shall maintain the structure of Administration from previous years. However, as it appears that the teams will be slightly short-handed, we would like the teams to do a bit of self-regulation. Each team might monitor its own baton-handoffs and its documentation procedures and whether it has hit the proper waypoints how it handles wingman-transfers. Obvious stuff. And the teams might impose penalties on…

RTWR Team AVSIM Practice – Sunday 3 Feb, 1700 UTC Mike MacKuen (following the lead of Jeff Williams). Posted: 2019-02-02 This online practice session is scheduled for Saturday Feb 3 @ 1700 UTC. Starting at Bergen ENBR, the route proceeds northward toward Bodo (ENBO) and possibly as far as Kiruna (ENSQ). We shall fly in local daylight, but the Norwegian weather can be dicey. (It looks mostly ok at the moment.) Flight Plan Choose aircraft that you plan to fly in the race. This is a daylight session so fly the legs as fast as you can and land safely. Let's tune up those racing skills. In addition, we shall want to refresh our memory about baton tran…

Good Morning all, It was pointed out to me last night there is an error in the Duenna Manual regarding overspeed. The manual states the limits are 60 seconds for FSX/P3D and 30 for FS9, this is incorrect, it is 90 for FSX/P3D and 60 for FS9. I will be updating the manual and it will appear in the next version of the Duenna however unless an error in the Duenna is discovered there will not be a new one before the Race and I wont issue a new version just for a manual update. Thank you,

No.. It is not like riding a bike. More like falling off of one. Post your practice flights here, no particular route as of yet. Fly what you like, route as wanted. Concentrate on posting procedures. ______________________________________________ Without further "a do" - I have the baton, KMKC to CYTZ in the Wings of Power I P-51H, FSRealWXPro

I got a bit tired of copying and pasting three different things and formatting the post when adding the Duenna, so I put together a litte tool to help: https://darkc.se/generateverification.html Simply paste the URL to the fs-duenna.com tracking page for your flight, click "Generate & Copy", and you should have the graphic and links to the text file copied to your clipboard, ready to be pasted in your verification post. Enjoy!

To all racers, Hope everyone had a great summer!! With the race coming up in a few months, we are trying again to gauge interest in the race. As you know, the race will require approximately 10 pilots and I know historically at AVSIM, we have had more than that. So are we interested in holding an event this year? Also, Duenna version 3. Please download it and test it on your PC if you wish to join in the race, the more notice I can get for any potential issues the better. If you wish to add ideas on how to reinvigorate this event, please post in the official race forums at http://www.fsrtwrace.com Thanks,

Nick's Mexico trip is delayed a week. This week we will enjoy the cold winter season textures in the Netherlands, Northern Germany, & Denmark. Starting from Amsterdam's Schipol Airport (EHAM) we will briefly stop at Groningen (EHGG), Bremmen (EDDW), Hamburg (EDDH), and Kiel (EDHK), before finishing at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport (EKCH). The route is 377nm long so this is a good opportunity to fly a regional airliner such as the Q400, CRJ, or a vintage propliner such as the DC-6 or Connie. As always you are free to fly what you like. Flying Down to Rio Starting from Campos dos Goytacazes (SBCP) the first leg is over flat fields to Macae (SBME), the center of the offshore petroleum industry. The route continues south and west with the Atlantic on your left and the Serra do Mar on the right. The Serra do Mar is a system of mountain ranges and escarpments that forms the boundary between the sea-level littoral and the inland plateau. Next is São Pedro da Aldeia (SBES) and then on to Rio de Janeiro. UTGAX is the initial approach fix for our visit to Rio de Janeiro. Fly past Sugar Loaf on your left and do a circuit around the city to appreciate the many fine views before landing at Santos Dumont (SB…

This week we're going to take advantage of the new KPDX Portland International Airport by Bill Womack/Flightbeam with a sightseeing flight around the Portland area. We'll start at Goheen (W52) and fly down to Pearson (KVUO). When we take off from Pearson we'll fly up the Columbia River to the I-205 bridge (WP1) giving us an aerial view of KPDX as we go past. We then turn southwest to WP2, just south of downtown Portland. Turn north and enjoy the cityscape of downtown Portland on the way to WP3. What you do with the bridges is up to you (but we'll all be watching....). At WP3 turn east and land on KPDX 10R to see the south side of the airport close up. We depart from K…

Starting from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal the route will hop-scotch from island to island up the Solomons to New Britain. The route then proceeds to New Guinea and finishes at Port Morsby. We depart from Ankara International Airport (LTAC). The airport is in operation since 1955. In 2017, it has served more than 15 million passengers in total, 13 million of which were domestic passengers. Ankara is the capital of the Republic of Turkey. With a population of about 4,5 million, it is Turkey's second largest city after Istanbul (the former imperial capital), having outranked İzmir in the 20th century. Ankara became the new Turkish capital upon the establishment of the Republic on 29 October 1923, succeeding in this role the former Turkish capital Istanbul (Constantinople) following the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The government is a prominent employer…

We continue our tour in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. This time - I hope - without the risk of becoming entangled in international politics…. We depart from Canakkale (LTBH), where we made a short stop-over during our last trip here. We head towards Gökçeada, with 279 square kilometers the largest island of Turkey. The island is very mountainous. Cape Avlaka, near Uğurlu, is the westernmost point of the island, and of Turkey as well. In ancient times, it was believed that the Greek sea god Poseidon rested his horses in the deep sea between Gökçeada and the Greek island of Samothrace, which is to the north of Gökçeada. The former name of the island, İ…

Left Coast. Golden Gate, Big Sur and Sideways. Departing from Santa Rosa and its Sonoma County Charles "Snoopy" Schulz Airport [KSTS], we see a region hard hit by the wildfires of 2017. When we reach Marin County, we cross Mount Tamalpais and pass over the great “old growth” redwoods of Muir Woods [MUIR], descend over Point Bonita [BONTA] and fly past the Golden Gate Bridge [GGATE]. (Let me remind you that flying under the bridge is hazardous and could be detrimental to your health.) We go low along the North Shore to pass the Presidio, Palace of the Arts, the Marina District and Fisherman's Wharf. And then circle out over San Francisco Bay to round historic Coit Towe…
