To all racers, Hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy new year!!!! With about 36ish days to the next RTW race, I'm trying to gauge interest in the race. Of the 3 teams that usually participate, I'm not sure if flightsim.com will be able to field a team this year so that probably leaves 2 teams. Interest in this event has been slowly dwindling each year and if something isn't done to re-invigorate this event, I fear it may be over. Even we in the Executive team aren't sure if this year a race will proceed or not, hence I'm trying to see if there is want of it. If enough are interested, we can see what we can do to pull together an event this year. …

The last of the three Oregon Backcountry plans. We start at Baker City (KBKE) where we finished last week and fly eastwards towards Hell's Canyon, stopping at Pine Valley (OR70) on the way. Drop into the canyon at the dam (marked by a waypoint) and fly north following the Snake River. We'll stop at Oxbow (OR12) in the canyon, then continue following the canyon to the next dam (marked by a waypoint). Climb out of the canyon and head for the mountain airstrip at Memaloose (25U). Next fly into the heart of the Wallowa range before turning north to land at Joseph State (4S3). We'll then visit a couple of farm strips, Peacock Ranch (05OR) and Tamarack Springs Ranch (83O…

Backcountry Ski Trip - Part 2 Our second flight in Central and Eastern Oregon. We start where we finished last week at Longview Ranch (OG39) and make our way first along the John Day River valley. First stop is at Wiley Creek (0OR1), then an easier one at Grant County Regional (KGCD) airport in John Day before going back to the farm strips and Hi Country No. 2 (97OR). If I ever find Hi Country No. 1 I'll let you know. Anyway, we leave the John Day valley and head southeast to Murphy Ranch (3OR9). Only a couple of miles away is Beulah Reservoir, so we could check if it's frozen for an additional bonus landing. We then make our way north heading loosely towards B…

Backcountry Ski Trip - Part 1 First, Happy New Year everyone! This is the first of 3-4 flight plans taking us around small backcountry and farm airstrips in Central and Eastern Oregon. And as we're now in the winter months everything is under snow, so it's time to fit your skis or tundra wheels! We'll start in the Willamette valley at Hobby Field (77OR) in Creswell. It's just a short ride to a quick stop at Jasper Ridge (36OR) to make sure we've got our short-field skills up to scratch before we head into the snow. Next, up and over the Cascade range, stopping at McKenzie Bridge (00S) and passing the Three Sisters peaks, landing at Sisters Eagle Airport (…

I prepared this flight plan for next Saturday (December 30th) after a short chat with Ron, agreeing that we probably forgot to set up a plan for the upcoming Saturday. If somebody else prepared a flight for that date I step back and we can fly this trip at a later date. We depart from ORBX Whangarei (NZWR) and visit quite a lot of the uncharted airfields on the North Island of New Zealand. We do not need to land at all of them, but it is fun to try to find them. Destination is Whangarei again. We need to cover about 340 NM with as many landings as we want to. So I will probably take the A2A Comanche for that trip, but the choice is yours. ORBX N…

Starting at Oshkosh there are 3 landings to make, the last being Oshkosh! The first airport is Shiocton which we will overfly. Our first landing is Austin Straubel Intl. If you've been concentrating you'll be ready for a break! KMTW is another overfly. The second landing is at Sheboygan Co Meml. Final leg is a short one of about 46nm back to Oshkosh. Please select your preference for flying on the left or right of the leader. He will be in Tango1. Even numbered aircraft on the LEFT of the leader and odd numbered aircraft on the RIGHT of the leader. Whoever elects to be number one will simply have to follow the flight plan and make gentle, wide as possible turn…

Samoa – South Seas Sojourn We fly to all of the airports in Western Samoa and American Samoa. Starting from Asau (NSAU) in the west we will land at six airports finishing at Fitiuata (FAQ) on the eastern most island of Ta’u. Flightplan & Pilots Guide: Available here. Aircraft: The route is 212 miles, so we should take a plane that cruises with about 140 KIAS. The most common aircraft used in Samoa are the de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, the Dornier DO228, and the Brittan Norman BN-2 Islander. These are all good choices but as always you are free to fly what you like. Recommended scenery: Orbx NSTU Pago Pago Internatio…

Rocky Mountains Leg 4 Indian Creek and Hells Canyon 2014 Flight Description. After recharging our batteries, and strengthening our gear, we head back into the hills. Nothing will match Jeff's spectacularly challenging run so we are in for a letdown. And yet, some interesting landing strips lie ahead. We return to the verdant Salmon River Mountains for a bit of bush flying. First, we fly eastward over the ridges to Johnson Creek (3U2). This is a popular fly-in destination and will, at any time, present a number of other flying enthusiasts hanging around the grass strip. Head north and then east (in the valley around Golden Gate Hill) to arrive at St…

I just found that Little Nav Map has now a major update. It includes an airac-cycle and exports the flight plans in many more formats, one of them ist the format for the Majestic Das8 Q400. The SIDs and Stars are depicted on the map, easy to find the right one now. Have a look here!

I've posted the sceenshots etc over on the Majestic forum. Milan 73 is a water bomber used in the south of France. They have two Q400s Milan 74 being the other one. The French Government apparently plan to get rid of their aging (inset aircraft here. I've forgotten what they are!) These aircraft have to land to fill up with water, as opposed to the 'scoop it up' variety. Thought you'd like to know.

It was not a perfect diamond but close.. Sorry for the wrong paints, but those were the only ones that resulted in a visible airplane. Same problem with the wrong names... Echelon could be improved on my side:

Germany South Part III : Bavaria, here we come... Today we stay in one German Bundesland, Bavaria. We will see palaces, a big city, but not too many castles. That will change with the next flight though.... Departure airport will be Kempten-Durach (EDMK), once part of the ORBX freeware package Europe. We land at Fuessen (ES77), Kochel am See (EV11), Koenigsdorf (EO41), Vogtareuth (EDNV), Oberschleissheim (EDNX), Erding AB (ETSE), Eggenfelden (EDME), Fürstenzell (EDMF), Vilshofen (EDMV), Griesau (EDPG), and finally at Hiernheim (EO12). Flightplan & Pilots Guide: Available here. Aircraft: The route is 295 miles, so we should take a plane that…

For today's flight I won't be able to post the full flight plan until later as my P3D PC has been out of action this week due to some decorating, but I'll be putting it back together shortly. The plan is already done, I just don't have access to it right now. We'll be continuing from Isafjordur heading east along the north coast of Iceland. Same sort of speed (150kts-ish) and aircraft as last week, I'll be in a Twin Otter. Date: Saturday 18th November 2017 Time: 1900 UTC Same place as usual!

For RTWR Racers & "Hotshots" - Sure am glad this isn't simulated in FS, we wouldn't have made it even 1/4 way. Glad the pilots are OK, but with egg on face.. This was just released last week.. https://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.aviation/brief2.aspx?ev_id=20151117X83015&ntsbno=CEN16LA043&akey=1 Just a WOW type of read..

Island Air is no more. Island Beauty is a livery from 2006 and I wonder if they'd get away with it in todays politically correct world. I suspect someone would start squealing. Anyway, my take on it. And that's the last of the Q400s Available on my MediaFire now and /or AVSIM soon

Iceland 2017: Keflavik to Isafjordur Starting at Keflavik (BIKF), the international airport, we take a hop across the bay to Reykjavik's small city centre airport (BIRK). Next head north to Stykkisholmur (BIST) then along Snaefellsnes peninsula. We'll visit Snaefellsjokull volcano (WP1), the setting for Jules Verne's novel Journey to the Centre of the Earth before we land at Rif (BIRF). Then an overwater leg (sorry) to the scenic Westfjords region, with stops at Patreksfjordur (BIPA), Bildudalur (BIBD) and Thingeyri (BITE). The end of our route is the challenging approach into runway 08 at Isafjordur (BIIS), which starts out in the bay before heading into the fjo…
