The Big Island On today's flight we will be on the Big Island of Hawaii. We will be flying over two summits above 13000 ft and skimming the shores in Kona. We will see the world's most active volcano along with the leftovers of 4 more. Will see where Captain Cook first set eyes upon Hawaii and later killed by the natives. Since this is a sight seeing tour we will be going slow about 100 to 120 knt's. I will be flying a helicopter but a small plane will be okay too. This trip is about 241 miles and I will be flying at noon time. At PHUP I will be switching into my Comanche for the trip over the channel to Kahului Maui. Bring plenty of sun screen and your camera. …

The Executive Committee for the RTWR has given long and careful thought to the viability of the event for 2017 and beyond. Declining numbers of participants, technical issues with secondary software, increased experience with the known format and it's options have all raised questions of whether the current format can continue. At the same time a basic desire is seen to exist for an ongoing "bigger than average" event that retains the mystique and challenges of years gone by. In response, the Executive Committee proposes changes for 2017 (and beyond?) that will reduce the burden on teams and individuals as follows: 1. The event will be hard-capped at 48 hours in length,…

Joshua's Holo Holo Hawaiian Tour Are you cold if so lets warm up and get ready for a once in a lifetime Hawaiian experience. To get ready for our trip we will have to install a few things. You don't have to but if you want the ultimate experience in HI fidelity you must as ORBX Hawaii sucks. Listed below are the sceneries you will need to install. Please follow the readme's for instructions. These flights will be a combination of airplanes and helicopters(if you want). For each of the three flights I will give a short description, flight plan and instructions. I'm really looking forward to these as they will be some of the best flights you have ever had and…

My daughter bought me a great (used) book for Christmas. "The Accidental Airline" see here for background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Charlotte_Airlines After I finish it, I'll put together something on floats for us to explore along the rugged BC Coast  If you can find a copy, read it!! Great book for when you are snowed in

SOCAL - 29 Palms to Catalina Today we will fly from the Sonoran Desert over the San Bernadino Mountains then to the Pacific coast before finishing at Catalina Starting from 29 Palms (KTNP) airport the route proceeds west to the first stop at Big Bear (L35), followed a departure over Big Bear Lake and a climb over the mountains of the San Gorgonio Wilderness, then a steep descent and landing at Banning (KBNG). The route continues following I-10 east to the next stop Palm Springs (KPSP). From Palm Springs we head southwest to waypoint BALDI and through the pass between the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Wilderness Areas. Continuing on we pass the Palomar Observatory…

This will be the next flight in GEN from ORBX, it covers the west of this area. We will depart from the former RAF AB of Bruggen (ETUR). Flight Ops ceased there in 2001, but the airbase is still in good condition (but only in the Flight Simulator...). From here we head to Moenchengladbach (EDLN) for our first landing. It is the entry for this densely populated and highly industialized part of Germany. Next stop will be the International Airport of Duesseldorf (EDDL), the third largest airport in Germany, behind Frankfurt and Munich. From here we turn to an easterly heading and are pretty soon in a more rural environment. But after turning at the dam of the Enn…

  7. Lost World: Angel Falls and the Tepuis of Venezuela Today we fly somewhere that we do not normally visit. We shall fly over the Gran Sabana and the Tepuis of Venezuela's Canaima National Park, a region so remote and inaccessible that it was largely unexplored until the last century. We start at Ciudad Bolívar (SVCB) where you can see Jimmie Angel's famous aircraft El Rio Caroní just streetside of the passenger terminal. We then fly quickly to Tocomita (SV76) near the huge Gurí Dam and then head south over the Gurí Reservoir (the world's 11th largest man-made lake) to land at Canaima village (SVCN), the gateway to the park. We take off over the lagoon's waterfalls and he…

Good Morning All, I am putting this out just to gauge an interest in the RTW race for 2017? With about 90 days until the drop of the green flag (if there is a race), its a good idea to gauge interest in the race. I fear if we do not get enough interest, there will not be a race at all, and there hasn't been a peep about it on any of the forums. Drop a line here if you more then likely will be participating in the race this year. This is not an official sign up thread for this team.. Thanks,

Folks, I had a JoinFS multiplayer session on Sunday with Ralf and Roger and experienced problems trying to get model matching working properly with the C-47 he was flying. When I tried to find the correct livery it was not listed as variation under the aircraft type. In fact many of my C-47 v3 liveries were not listed. What I discovered when I took a look at the aircraft config was that the UI variation was not unique on many of the entries. Two lines seem to be critical for the model matching: ui_type="C-47R Skytrain" ---> JoinFS Type ui_variation="V3.12 Beta" ----> JoinFS Variation Most of the aircraft entries in my aircraft.cfg duplicated the se…

So I went further south...A lot further! I'll be in an A2A C182. As usual, you fly what you like. I'm presuming the use of JoinFS so sunset in Canberra is 8:08 pip emma local. Flight time @140kts is approximately 2hrs:26mins.37secs not counting faff time, pee breaks and sandwich prepping. You work it out. I will be starting out at…

Hello to all  after a silence long enough, "I knock again" the portal with this topic to inform (this time do not talk about scenery), of a little work that I hope may be of interest to some other flight enthusiasts, although it has been done something similar before. It's just planning a world tour in 50 sections, which I made (with some difficulty) and I'd like to share with other simmers. Although flights I made are not professional, I have to say I'm "crash-fallen" very few times (mainly with "special" aircrafts). I will not go further, but only with a link to the presentation. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38829151/FS9/The%20World%20Tour.pdf Trusting t…

The Highlands of Central America This week's routing takes us through the Highlands of Central America to gather organically grown coffee, mangoes, strawberries, and apples for a retired Silicon Valley executive who has a new idea for a startup. We begin in Guatemala City and fly through the mountain country of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador to reach Tegucigalpa. At first we fly the Sierra Madre, the chain of mountains that includes most of the Central America Volcanic Arc, and then we enter the rugged Honduran Highlands that dominate the country's geography. Given the rich soil and cool air, the uplands are relatively densely settled compared to the hot and humid…

I blithely stated I would organise a Colombian foray. Not as easy as I thought. Joining the dots led to a world of trouble, exploding engines (jeez that gives you a start!) and desperately trying to glide back to a runway...Any runway! So after a few false starts I reached a compromise which I present to you here. Starting from SKAP, Gomez Nino Apiay we will attempt to get to Bogota over, or rather, meander through, the smaller end of the Andes. From Bogota survivors will have an easier time of it....for a while! Leaving Tunja will seem OK but with one tricky bit before hopefully landing at Cimitarra. A few short hops to Valesques, Puerto Nare and Puerto Berrio. …

  17. North German Plain 2: From East to West, Cities, Mountains, and Islands We depart from Leipzig-Halle (EDDP) early in the morning to reach our destination before it is overrun by tourists. After an overflight of the city of Leipzig we head towards Merseburg (EDAM) for a touch and go, take a look at the City of Halle and land at Oberrissdorf (EDUO). From here we reach the Harz Mountains with Schloss Falkenstein and the Broken, the highest mountain in Northern Germany with 3744 feet. We land at Northeim (EDVN), overfly the monastery of Corvey and our next landing will be at Hoexter-Holzminden (EDVI). We overfly the Externsteine and the Hermansdenkmal, two to…

This week 's flight begins where we finished last week at RAF Valley on Angelsey, from where we will take off and visit the Mach Loop again for a few laps before we head east to RAF Scampton, home of the Red Arrows. Take your pick of Red Arrows videos on YouTube, but I thought you might particularly enjoy this one: After Scampton we'll come back west via RAF Leeming in Yorkshire to visit Warton aerodrome, where various notable aircraft were developed including the Lightning, Nimrod, Tornado, Hawk and Typhoon, before turning north and heading into the Lake District, where we can try out our new low-level skills transiting this highly scenic area. Leaving the Lak…

The route from Alamoso to El Paso is 447nm and an aircraft capable of 220knts should allow us to complete the flight before darkness arrives. North German Plain 1: History and Hanseatics in the Lowlands This week we will not see any volcanos or other exotic scenery, just the pretty flat landscape of Germany’s north. I divided the trip into two parts. Part 1 (today) will get us through the northern and eastern part, part 2 will concentrate on the middle and western part of ORBX’ new region GEN. We start at Blankensee (EDHL), the airfield serving the city of Luebeck, well known for its Gothic Brick Architecture. We will overfly the city and turn north to visit „Holstein Switzerland“, pass the city of Ploen and turn south again to overfly parts of Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city. We follow the rive…

Mariachi, Mole and Mexico This week we shall fly through central Mexico. With a population of 120 million, this is the 11th most populous country in the world. It is classified as a "upper-middle income" country that is now "newly industrialized." By mid-century, it could become the world's fifth largest economy. It is of course a land of social and geographic contrasts. We start at Guadalajara (MMGL), Mexico's industrial Second City and the urban birthplace of mariachi music. We fly south past the hot Colima Volcano [COLIMA] and descend to nearby Colima Airport (MMIA). We then proceed into the state of Michoacán and stop at both Uruapan (MMPN) and the larger Morelia (M…

Knickerbocker Journey We take a late summer tour of the Catskills, the Hudson Valley, the Berkshires and Green Mountains, and finally the Adirondacks. We begin at Greater Binghamton—Edwin A. Link International (KBGM), named after the "father" of flight simulation. We head east to touch-and-go at White Birch (4N8) [no pancake breakfast on Saturdays] and land at Downsville (NY78). Then east over the mountains into the Hudson Valley to stop at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (NY94) for a taste of wind-and-wires aviation.
