“Flight attendants/Cabin crew, please be seated.” Fun flight in the NGX from Phoenix to San Francisco with Ultimate Traffic Live at 100%, AS weather, and ASCA clouds. Also filed as IFR and was very busy with the radios too. Very glad to have the automation assistance.

This is getting embarrassing! Previous uploadings have been found wanting in one way or another so I've made sure that it 'S'all good man' D-IKOB (left the engine black bits on and RAF call sign on) Mediafire EC-LJN (registration letters too small) MediaFire RAF ZK459 (God knows what I forgot on this, but just in case!) MediaFire Subsequent paints will not leave the premises until properly vetted...Promise.

Screenshots from this afternoons flight from San Diego to Denver in United DC-6. Route took me past Palm Springs and the Grand Canyon. Encountered severe thunderstorms over Grand Canyon and again over the Rockies. It was so bumpy coming over the front range that the autopilot could not hold altitude and a firm grip on the controls was needed till on final. Passing Palm Springs Salton Sea View of the Grand Canyon from the front office. Very bumpy ride with thunder clouds obscuring the view of the canyon. It's a Grand view. Flight Level 150, 253knts. Weathe…

If we're short of a plan one Saturday I have a couple up my sleeve. One is pretty much a tour round and the other is a little different.

I know I'm very late to the Q400 but I bought it on a whim and to my surprise I like it! And to prove I started the engines and took off... Mind you, I didn't know where I was going... Mastering the various computers and stuff will come later. Just a few bits to finish up and I'll post it up tomorrow.

Hot, High, & Short – Summer Fun in Central Idaho (July 15) Starting from Idaho County (S80) this trip features 25 airstrips and will require two weeks to complete. We will visit many old favorites such as Dewey Moore and Mile Hi in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. We will finish near the center of the Eastern Snake River Plain at Big Southern Butte. The terrain is rugged and high, the bush strips are short with tricky approaches so a powerful, maneuverable, and rugged aircraft will be needed. Expect to do some “yanking and banking” as there will be very few landings with 5 mile final approaches. I will be flying a turbo modded Cessna 185 Skywa…

After the fine flight with Gunter and friends flying around Yosemite on Sunday I asked myself.... "Self, why in the heck did the 5 or so different Comanches show up absolutely perfectly, with their proper paints?" This morning I took a look at the C185 & Comanche aircraft containers to see what was different. Lo and behold I do believe I have found it. Here it is - NOT ONE EXTERNAL PAINT FOR THE COMANCHE IS FOUND IN THE FALLBACK/MAIN "TEXTURE" FOLDER, WHEREAS, IN THE 185, THE BUGGER THAT WAS ALWAYS SHOWING UP (white/red - N8025K) IS IN THE MAIN "TEXTURE" FOLDER! If you want, here are some steps, which I hope, will alleviate the incorrect textures. In Airp…

Maine. The Hundred Dollar Lobster Roll For Saturday, July 8, 2017. For Saturday, July 15, 2017. Today we enjoy a change-of-pace: a Saturday afternoon in light General Aviation aircraft for a journey up the Maine coast from Portland to Bar Harbor. The distance is short (176nm) but we make a number of quick stops to enjoy the practice of putting small planes into small airstrips. We start from Portland International (KPWM) and fly "Down East" past the former NAS at Brunswick and Bath's tall shipbuilding cranes to land at Wiscasset (KIWI). There we take on board lobster rolls from Red's Eats, Maine's iconic lobster shack. We fly over Boothbay Harbor to Outer He…

Scotland, from Shetlands to Highlands Our departure today is Scatsta (EGPM) on the very north of the Shetland Islands. It was developed as an RAF field in 1940 and abandoned after the end of WWII. It was then reopened as a civilian airport in 1970 to support the growing Shetland oil industry. Next up is Sumburgh (EGPB, an ORBX payware), the main airport on the Shetlands. It has a long history dating back to 1936. It is now served by LoganAir, offering flights to and from destinations in Scotland and Norway (Bergen). We leave the Shetland Islands and head to the Orkney Islands. We land at Kirkwall (EGPA), the largest town on the Orkneys (Population of abou…

For the final flight in our "Down Under" series (unless someone's going to cook up something...), we make a return to the airstrips located along the Kokoda Trail. Departing from Girua we go to Kokoda, from where where we can pick up the trail to cross the mountain ridge. We stop first at Myola then continue into the cluster of airstrips servicing the communities on or near the trail. Most of these make last week's landings look tame by comparison, so a bush capable aircraft is recommended, as is some practice to avoid embarrassment! Having either conquered these strips or littered the region with aluminium, we conclude the flight at Jacksons international airport. …

This week we'll tour the Goilala region, starting at Tapini and visiting a number of small bush strips before concluding at Girua. As always you can fly what you like but be aware that the route includes some challenging approaches into short sloping high altitude mountainside landing strips so you might want to take something appropriate. I will fly the DHC-2 Beaver, other good choices could include a Cessna 185 or Pilatus PC-6. Flight plan (.PLN format) available here. Scenery The flight plan will be based around Orbx's Tapini package, for which FTX Global BASE Pack and the freeware Orbx PNG mesh are also required. Girua has been upgraded as part of the…

You can find a Pilot's Guide to the Finisterre and Owen Stanley Ranges downloadable from my DropBox account here. The document includes some older material and some more recent updates. It describes points of interest associated with the previous leg in the Finisterre mountains and also the next two legs near Tapini and Kokoda.

As those of us with the Beaver discovered the other night ALL the Beavers in the collection have the same registration number on the panel. I've tracked down the errant texture and have made one for each paint I have. Read the readme and don't come sniveling to me if you mess up! (shows I'm kidding) Download them HERE

Folks, Mike has asked me to take over planning for this week’s flight in PNG. We will start from Madang (AYMD) a head east over the Bismark Sea and into the Finisterre Range where we will land at two a series of remote bush strips located in the heart of the range. The airstrips in order are: Tauta (TAU) Saidor (SDR) Nankina (NKN) Bambu (BAM) Teptep (TEP) Dinga (DIN) Dinangat (DNA) Wasu (WASU) Indagen (IGN) Lake Gwam (GWM) Then we proceed to the Lae’s airport: Nadzab (AYNZ), and time permitting re-group for the final push to Tapini landing at some or all of the follow…

Today's flight was a from Monterey to San Diego in the Majestic Dash 8 Q400. A flight that might be familiar to some folks. Descending over Long Beach Harbor Runway 27 LOC approach, Glideslope active, 3100 feet, still in the murk. Out of the murk, established on final. View of city lights on the way down. Almost there now. Just seconds to touchdown.

This week we're resuming our continuous tour Down Under and revisiting the Torres Strait Islands between northern Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Last time we were here Jeff and Mike worked out an excellent route so I take no credit for this week's plan for anything other than shamelessly plagiarising their work and reversing the route! Starting at Horn Island, we'll fly round the islands and finish at Daru, just off the coast of PNG. A slow sightseeing aircraft would be ideal for the islands, so a nice opportunity to pull your Cessna 172s or Cherokees out of the hangar. The last leg, from Murray Island to Daru is a little longer overwater though so you might like …

The long-awaited continuation of our flights Down Under! I'm sticking with the principles that Jeff started our travels with, so this will be a continuous route (no gaps) designed to be flown by a combination of warbird, "work" and "fun" aircraft. We will begin where we left off in Cairns and tour the Cape York Peninsula, taking two sessions to arrive at Horn Island, which will serve as a jumping off point for the Torres Strait islands in the third week. Then on up to Papua New Guinea for some serious bush flying in the Goilala and Kokoda Trail areas. Flight plans (.pln and .plg) for the route to Horn Island can be downloaded here. The hope is to make it a…

Norway – North Cape Starting from Narvik (ENNK), the route proceeds north, via Tromso (ENTC), Sorkjosen (ENSR), Hasvik (ENHK), to the northern most city of Hammerfest (ENHF). Then up to the North Cape with landings at Honnigsvag Valen (ENHV) followed by Mehamn (ENMH). If time permits we will continue southeast with stops at Batsfjord (ENBS) and Vardo Svartnes (ENSS) before finishing at Kirkenes (ENKR). The route is 415nm and an aircraft capable of 220 knts cruise or better is recommended. I will be flying the Fligh1 King Air 200 but as always you are free to fly whatever you prefer. There is still plenty of snow this far north there is also enough …

Saturday, 22nd April 1900hrs BST (you work it out, I can't) Although spring is here, in Innsbruck it's still fairly chilly. So it's off to sunny Italy for a taste of La Dolce Vita in Roma. Olé! (wrong language ) Bravo! Sunset in Rome is about 20:00hrs local and the flight should take about 3 hours. So departure from LOWI ought to be 1600. First stop Bolzano,(an Orbx freeware airport) tucked away in a tricky little valley. A modicum of planning (speaking for myself) is in order. Palma next (likewise an Orbx freeware airport) Pisa of leaning tower fame follows. Sadly, I couldn't locate any buckshee scenery for this and I for one won't be spending o…

Those of you that were with us on Sunday's Gunter flight will recall my having a bit of rant about VAS and framerates. I know for a fact you were all grinning like loons when I had an OOM. Fair enough, I deserved it. Anyway, I made the same flight in all respects the next day. OOM exactly the same point. Did it again a little later, ditto. After taking to Josh I decided to buy SIMstarter NG spent many a happy hour creating profiles and learning the program. Thanks Josh. Flew it again and got about 10 miles further...OOM. Then I happened upon something someone said about nvidea driver having a memory leak and it being rectified in the latest driver 378.66. I…
