The final leg of Crossing the Red starts at Einasleigh (YEIH) which is an OZx freeware airstrip. Because it is not selectable as a starting airport in FSX/P3D you may need to do a quick pre-positioning flight from YKID beforehand and save the flight situation at YEIH. The other alternative is to depart from YKID and then do a JoinFS follow on anyone departing from YEIH. The route will cross the Savanahland of Queensland with landings at Undarra, Millstream, and then over the Atherton tablelands to Mareeba, Next, a tricky landing at Leila’s (See NOTAM), before descending down the Barron River Gorge to fly around Cairns, and then a landing at the International Airp…

  7. This is the AvSim 2017 Round-the-World Race Official Thread. Please remember to set up your Duenna with a check mark on "Enable online flight tracking" and pick the proper event: "2017 rtw race official tracking". You also need to use the "Baton-carrier or wingman" check box if flying in that role. The Executive Committee will make the Start Post below and then it is to be used for the Baton (and Wingman) posts and other required information. Please do not make any entries in this thread until the Race begins. Good luck and safe flying! The Executive Committee

NOTAM 17-01 Revision to the 2017 Special Rules In light of significant shortages of capable and qualified pilots, the Executive Committee has reviewed and accordingly revised Rule 7. The Consecutive Pilot Rule. This change is included in the released 2017 Special Rules v1.01 available on the RTWR Race web site and attached here: https://www.fsrtwrace.com/pdf/2017%20RTWR%20Special%20Rules%20v1.01%20Release.pdf In summary, the use of the Emergency Pilot provision has been opened by eliminating the limit of two consecutive legs. The Wait Time has been modified from 5 minutes with escalation (5+5, +5 etc.) to 3 minutes per consecutive use and the accumulated Wait Time is …

We need from each team (if possible) at least two and better three volunteers to serve on the Racing Committee. For each volunteer, this means one or two stints as the Duty Officer during the 48 hour race. The Race relies on this sort of self-regulation by veterans. The current procedures have worked well over the last several years and we hope to keep them in place for 2017. Please make your selections (that is, dragoon volunteers) by Tuesday next week so that we can get the organization put together. If any problems arise, please let us know. If your team is desperately short of pilots, we shall all understand. Thanks, The Executive Committee

Or: Cross Country in Austria. This flight starts off innocently enough and builds up. An aircraft that will be at home in the mountains would be a wise choice. I'm taking a Cub. No, not really. I've yet to decide. Scenery requirements are minimal. Orbx Global and European Landclass will do it. Airports are default or Orbx freeware. Kickoff at 1900hrs UDT Sunset in the area is about 17:30 and it's about a 300 mile trip. I'm thinking a simtime take off circa 14:00. Teamspeak server: ts.teamavsim.com Equip yourselves with JoinFS if you haven't already. IP is on Teamspeak. Finally, the FLIGHT PLAN See ya.

  15. Team, Because the AVSIM forums may be down for major upgrades during the race period, the AVSIM team will use the FSRTW site forums for our baton posts as we did in 2015. New team members should make sure they register at the forum and setup their user profiles. https://www.fsrtwrace.com/forum/ Veteran team members should make sure that they are still able to login and post to the forums.

As you will gather, we'll be starting from where we left off last week. There are no long legs and very few long runways so I would suggest an aircraft you can put down anywhere Cherokee, 182, that kind of thing. That's as far as I'll go for the moment. Flight Plan will be available closer to departure so no recces. I haven't flown it so I don't see why you lot should! P.S. It's no secret that Nantucket and Block Island are on the itinerary. but there are Orbx Freewares for them.

NOTAM: The Executive Committee of the RTWR wishes to confirm that the annual race will take place, beginning Friday, February 17th 2017. Details are still being refined but, in light of the apparent shortage of pilots, the Race will be flown over a course of reduced length with an absolute time limit of 48 hours. It will focus on one large geographic segment of the globe, will rely on the well-known aircraft of past years and essentially follow the format of the existing General Rules. As is the case every year, a set of Special rules will define the route, specific aircraft limitations and other special circumstances which define the year's challenges. These sp…

...there'll be nothing to see! As it is I don't think there will be anything on this trip to bring on an attack of the VASes. The route starts at Bar Harbor(KBHB) calls at various airports all of which are Orbx freeware, so no angst on the scenery front. So, Orbx Bar Harbour is the only payware to consider if you want the full nine yards, otherwise FREEWARE all the way except North American Landclass, which I think we all have. My thinking is for twin engined GAs. If you insist on RealAir's Turbine Dook, it is equipped with a handy attachment called throttle levers which can be pulled back to reduce speed. This bit is gonna hurt. Because of the proximity…

2017 RTWR Practice Route Here’s an idea for a practice route that will get us up near our “favorite” grounds of Norway and the Alps. The route is based on the ferry flight of my friends 1954 Beech C-45 (Beech 18 – “Lady Lynn”) after it was sold to a group in Germany during the 2016 Oshkosh Airventure show. If interested, the following are links to some information about the ferry flight, the aircraft, previous owner & other goodies. She will be missed at our local fly in breakfasts and other events. The ferry PIREP, ferry photos, video of a takeoff from one our breakfasts at 9WS2, video of gear retraction tests during her spring 2016 annual at Blackhawk Mainte…
